I am preparing my Powerbook G4 for installation of Tiger OS10.4. I have OSX
10.3.9. Installed and am using Office:Mac X (with Entourage X v10.1.6), all
running quite well so far.
Reading all the anguish of people having installed Tiger and the serious
problems they have with corrupted file attachments using Entourage 2004 I am
wondering if I run the risk of becoming also engulfed with this problem. I
am relying heavily on Entourage and can¹t afford spending endless hours
seeking solutions to this. Am I setting myself up for a big disappointment
or am I just lucky that I did not spend the money (yet) to upgrade to
Office:Mac 2004?
Some helpful advice would be very appreciated.

(1) Most people - the vast majority of people - are not seeing any
problem using Entourage 2004 under Tiger.

(2) For those who are having a problem with Entourage under Tiger, I'm
not aware that having Entourage X instead of 2004 contitutes any
protection.

Most people are not finding any problems, but when they happen, they
can be frustrating. I found Entourage 2004 to work quite well with
Tiger until my Palm sync Entourage conduit suddenly stopped working,
and the loss of syncing capabilities is nasty when you depend on your
Palm daily.

However, 2004 offers so many improvements over Office X that it's worth
the upgrade even if you do wait a while to upgrade to Tiger. It's
always wise to wait on your production machine until the bugs are
worked out of a new OS version. I would normally have stayed with
Panther except that I upgraded to a new DP G5 that came with Tiger
installed. I ran tests of all my software and everything except
DiskWarrior worked fine. Until the surprise problem in Entourage
suddenly whacked me over the head.

I found that Entourage in Office 2004 works fine with Tiger with one
notable exception: it crashes when HTML display preference box (under
Security) is checked and you try to click on an HTML email message.
(Checking the HTML display preference also causes the weird
right-justification problem others have described; annoying but not
fatal.) I've spent a lot of time re-building Entourage databases,
creating new identities, etc., but have not yet been able to work a
fix. Problem is very reproducible and I've concluded that problem
resides in Entourage and that Microsoft needs to create a fix. I've
had no problems with corrupted file attachments (although I have
Entourage set to automatically remove file attachments from emails
after sending to keep database size manageable.) If you don't mind
working with emails in text-only mode, Entourage 2004 should be OK.
Hope this info helps inform your decision.

Jakmac, did you find the instructions to deactivate shutterfly? Did it not
fix your right-justification problem? It worked for everyone else. If you
didn't deactivate it, I wouldn't be surprised if that's causing your crashes
as well.

I did deactivate the Shutterfly plug-in, but that isn't what is causing
the crashes. I consistently crash when I click on any HTML email with
the HTML display box checked. Unchecking and going to text-only mode
solves the problem.

Did deactivating Shutterfly fix your right-justify problem? You implied
that was still troubling you.

I did deactivate Shutterfly, but am not sure if doing that or
unchecking HTML display box fixed the right justification problem.
