The e-mails *should* still be there. I suspect Entourage simply doesn't
see your identity for some reason.
You can try switching to your identity from the Entourage menu.
You can also check in ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data to see if your
Entourage 2008 identity is still there (check the size).

There is no reason why any MS update could have affected this. You might
have a deeper problem on your Mac.
You shoudl reboot on your Leopard install DVD to repair the boot drive
with Disk Utility (in the menus once you boot on the DVD).
After that, reboot on your Mac and launch DiskUtility again from there
to repair Permissions on the Mac.
FYI, there is an update for Office itself, but it's not yet on the
Auto-update servers. You need to get it directly from the MS website,
