 - Still having sync problems with Treo tasks I have posted a couple of times. I am still completely baffled by my Treo. I have Entourage 2004, using treo 600, sync is fine, except for tasks. Nothing written or done to tasks list in Treo will transfer to Entourage. Everything done in Entourage transfers fine. I have checked the conduit settings hundreds of times, even tried to make the handheld overwirte Entourage.. to no avail. Anyone who might have a solution to this problem, please help!!!!  - gray box in Entourage In my Inbox and Sent Items folders there is a gray box at the bottom of the list of emails, covering up the emails. And when I try to click on it, or simply move the cursor over it, I get the error message "The action cannot be completed. Mail error." And in my Outbox it is completley blank, and I get the same message when I try to click on it. Then when I click "OK" after receiving the message it just continually pops up over and over, so I have to force quit the program. Anyone with similiar problems? What should I do?  - Performance Problems When Large Projects Exist I have a pretty fast machine (Dual 1.25Ghz G4) that is unbearably sluggish when doing anything in Entourage 2004 even composing a short email causes the "beach ball of death" to spin for 30 seconds every other line or so. I suspect the culprit is a large shared project - it contains about 4500 contacts and a fair number of calendar items. I haven't been able to find any information on Entourage optimization or what kind of load the Project center can support on the Mactopia or MVP websites. The shared project lives on a fast NAS device which the machines connect to via fast ethernet. There are 3 machines accessing the project but there aren't usually a lot of changes to the data being made. Can anyone help me? - Matt Tag: Entourage problem Tag: 47293

 - Address Book View I've just added an view in the address book, but it didn't appear in the view list. I tried to re-create one. It said one with the same name exists. Is there something wrong?  - Mime Guru Needed! - Attachment File Names Munged from Mac->PC (Using Entourage 10.1.4/SR1; OS X 10.3.6) The problem: ============= I send an attached file to a PC user. The mac file name is "test.xls". The pc user gets a file named "test.xlsx-mac-creator="5843454C" Some info: ========== Looking at the source text of the email, it seems pretty obvious what is happening. The mime part with the attachment says: Content-type: application/x-msexcel; name="test.xls"; x-mac creator="5843454C"; x-mac type="5843454C" Content-disposition: attachment Content-transfer-encoding: base64 The PC is munging the first two lines of the mime type into a single name. So, pretty easy to blame the pc mail reader (in this case Outlook), but I'm not so sure. If I send multiple attachments, the 2nd through nth all work. Even twistier: ============== Another Entourage user at my office never has this problem. We looked at the source of his emails. In his case, the mime type information reads: Content-type: application/octet-stream; name="test.xls" Content-disposition: attachment Content-transfer-encoding: base64 It seems that this approach does not carry along the Mac creator or type, which might be helpful on a Mac->Mac transfer, but obviously no value in going to a pc. When Entourage sends the attachment this way, it works on the pc end. But, he and I compared what we think are ALL preference settings between our two systems, and I couldn't get my output to match his. Solutions: ========== 1) I'd be happy with a configuration solution for my machine that would cause the attachment to be sent in the same way as on my colleagues machine (btw, same Entourage version on both, same OS version on both). [Compose settings: Auto check names, save copies to sent items and show html formatting all on; Encode for Any Computer (AppleDouble); append file name extensions off.] 2) Some other workaround or suggestion?  - Entourage Problem After I download my email and log out of Entourage, I get a dialogue box that indicates that there is a network operation still in progress. I have to tell it to stop the network operation. The operation appears to continue for as long as fifteen minutes after I have received all of my email.  - Using Entourage with Juno dialup I use the latest version of Entourage on my PowerBook, and when I connect to the internet through Juno's dialup service, I can't seem to send messages from my work e-mail address. I can receive e-mail just fine. The strange thing is, when I connect to the internet through any other connection, I have no problem at all.  - Copy broken in 11.1.0 (040913)! This is NOT good! I just allowed the MS autoupdater to do its thing. After firing up Entourage new, anytime I try to Edit > Copy anything (whether plain text or html stylized text), nothing is sent to the clipboard. More Info: OSX 10.3.6 This problem was not present before the MS autoupdater ran. All other apps can still copy/paste no problem.  - Select Items in Custom View with Applescript I have been trying to sort through a large volume of email within Entourage with Applescript and, as you guys know, it's very slow and Entourage does not support multithreading when it comes to Applescript (so Entourage waits for the mass processing to complete). An alternative that would work better is to have the Applescript automagically select the results of a custom view (representing the most recent of emails in multiple folders) and then complete the actions that I want to perform on them.  - Scheduling problem? A curious thing happened last night. I set the Delete Junk Mail scheduled task to run at midnight, which it did. This morning, when I checked my mail, I noticed Send & Receive All had not run at all (should run every 10 minutes). The message bar at the bottom of the window was counting down the next run of Delete Junk Mail. Is there some subtle interaction of scheduled events I'm missing? Can only one task at a time run?  - Entourage Hangs Up, Runs Slow, Gets Spinning Wheel I'm running Office 2004 on a Mac G5 with OSX. For about a month Entourage has been hanging up and running slow. I get the spinning color wheel for about ten seconds before it opens an e-mail, in the middle of typing an e-mail, when attaching files, etc. Entourage has never been super fast but for the first few moths I never got the spinning wheel. I've reinstalled over the top of it and have trashed the preferences but still get the spinning wheel.  - Help Entourage 2004 will not quit I have the same problem as Robin Jackson (19 nov. 2004) with Entourage 2004. When I quit Entourage the main Window disappears but the progress window stays in focus, the menu's all dim and the name Entourage gets highlighted. And there it stays, hogging CPU and not doing anything. I have no idea why this should have suddenly happened. I DO NOT HAVE an exchange account. Only a regular POP account (cable modem) and that problem was non existing before. I tried to remove my "Données utilisateurs Microsoft" (I use the French version - I am from Montréal) from user/documents Microsoft user. I tried to réinstall Office from scratch putting to trash the Office folder and everything related in the user library/preference and reinstalling - dragging the Office folder from the installer to applications folder - tried before updating to Office 2004 11.1.0 and after updating. Nothing work. Entourage do not quit and is stopping a shutdown. I have to force quit Entourage everytime before I can shutdown. I don't care to reinstall and recreate my account as far as my main identity (all my mail and address book) do not seem to be the problem.  - Getting error when trying to send complex html I have a html file which I sent successfully yesterday. Now, when I'm trying to send using either "Send complex html" or "Send Complex html with inline files" (both scripts downloaded and installed yesterday), I get an error: "Microsoft Entourage got an error: Some data could not be read." I have tried a couple of dozen times, closed Ent and restarted again, etc. The file is perfectly coded, checked and rechecked. And, as I wrote, I sent exactly the same file yesterday without probs.  - Office 2004 cannot identify Entourage X identity Hi everyone, I upgraded from Office X to Office 2004 on my G4 TiBook running OS 10.3.6 and tried to import my e-mail and addresses from Entourage X. I used the wizard and it located the folder Documents>Microsoft User Data>Office X Identities. It reported that the Main Identity couldn't be found, but I can see the file containing the Entourage X Database. All files are greyed out and I can't select a file to import. I see that variations of this problem have been posted here during the past several months, but I'm not dealing with multiple computers, OS 9, Office 2001, or Exchange servers. I've scoured the related MVP web page <www.entourage.mvps.org/import_export/index.html>, as well as the Mactopia 'Using Entourage 2004' web pages <www.microsoft.com/mac/products/entourage2004/> and googled Mac newsgroups. In a previous internet search for a solution, I found one response detailing a multiple-step workaround that smacked of Rube Goldberg.  - "Today," "Yesterday," "2 Weeks Ago," etc headers have disappeared (Using Entourage 11.0.0) My preview pane is to the right of my message list. I've noticed I no longer have the headers that separate emails in my message list based on date. I've found I kind of miss them; they help me keep organized and help me make sure I respond to every email I get. I've poked around in the menu bar and preferences, as well as right-clicked (ctrl-clicked) on the message list itself, but cannot find the proper option for re-enabling this feature.  - sort msgs by 'conversation'? I'm coming over from Apple Mail to take advantage of the Project Center and the integrated Calendar/Task/Contact functions. Aside from a generally "clunkier" interface than Mail which is par for MS apps, it appears there is no facility for viewing email (and Usenet message groups!) by threaded conversation. Is this true?  - I can't view complex html in Ent.... I don't know what has happened: I have the option "View complex html" checked. I send to myself, images on remote server (need to since the Inline Files script won't show background images). I get the mail, Entourage asks me if I want to download images and I click "OK". Nothing happens, I still have a big "X" where one image should be and no background image.... Works fine in Mail and Thunderbird. Oh, I'm on Ent 2004.  - Automate sending of html mail, how? Every day, I take out some code from a web page, putting it into a certain html file and finally sending it out to people that subscribed. The copying and pasting (plus some editing) in the html file is nothing to make faster. It's a job that need to be done by a human. But then: The group has a certain mail address, the mail need to first change my outgoing default form from html to ascii, the script "SCHWIF2004" (Send Complex Html With Inline Files 2004") need to be triggered, find the html file and send away the lot. Can that be automated? I have been poking around in the settings, rules, schedules, options for groups, etc, but found no way to automate the job completely or partially. Can someone confirm this or point me to some solution, please? I know nothing about applescript, but I'm prepared to learn if needed.  - Generic Mail Format for ENT-2004 I just printed a copy of an email message from my 'Sent Items' folder and was shocked at the terrible looking format. The headers printed with a big font and the text was tiny tiny (something like 6-points). I hope this is just a function of my printer and was not what other people see when they read messages from me. In my Entourage 2004 Mil Preferences under Compose I have the format set to Plain Text. But now, strange things happens: I use the "send complex html X" despite I'm on 2004 because I can't find any other and it worked before. I have a html file with absloute paths to two images (http://www.mysite/image.jpg) and some simple CSS in the head of the doc. It's saved as "foo" without html-extension since I want the "foo" to be the mail's subject. After I opened the file in Mac's TextEditor (as ASCII) and made a few changes, the file is grayed out when I use the script and try to grab the file. What gives?  - Rules still applied even though deleted I'm having problems with Rules. After canceling Rules for an IMAP account, I'm still getting error messages about the Rules failing to apply. After deleting this Rule on my desktop at work, I thought the problem would be resolved. But it's still happening both at home and work. How can this be? I have no such Rule listed any longer.  - Error messages When I attempt to open Entourage I get the following message after I select an identity: "Mailing lists file is corrupt." I cannot go further. Rebuilding the database did not help; the only way I could get into Entourage was to pull out the "mailing lists" file (Documents, User Data, Identity) which would mean all mail, addresses etc. would be lost. Is there any way to restore the information in the "corrupt mailing list file?" I'm using Office 2001 and have tried downloading an update but was told the "Office 2001 9.0.5 update could not be opened because the application program that created it could not be found."  - Problem sending to groups: some unknown addresses are bad In Entourage, I rely on group mailings. Each "macro" group may contain 8 subgroups, and in each subgroup there is between 20-50 addresses. I'm finding that if there are a few addresses wrong in the database, it won't send the group email to anyone. I have to select each individual group, and even then, because I don't know if there are bad addresses in it, it may not send. I have no way to figure out what the bad addresses are amidst them all.  - Receiving email from an imap account My email account is through mac.com but I use Entourage to read my mail. Today my mail has started doing something it's never done before. When it comes to my computer from the server, the new mail is listed in the Deleted folder under my imap account and in the Inbox folder under "Folders on my computer." Before today I've always ignored the folders listed in "Folders on my computer" and just kept everything in the folders on my imap account. I'd like to keep doing that.  - SMTP authentication failure I posted this before, but thought I'd give it one more try with a different subject line... I changed hosting providers a while ago for one of my domains and I haven't been able to send messages with the new mail server. It's Entourage-specific. I can send fine using Outlook Express or on my PC using Outlook. However, I get the following error with Entourage: "Mail could not be sent using the account "abc."SMTP authentication failed. Your account ID or security settings may be incorrect. Would you like to try re-entering your account ID/password?" This happens with every e-mail account on that domain. I did find a support note on the MS site saying that Entourage 2003 dropped support for an older authentication scheme, but it implied it was a change in that version and I'm running an older one. - Mac OS 9.2.2 - Entourage 2001 v9.0.1 - POP and SMTP servers are the same - Does require "SMTP server requires authentication" to be on and set to the same as incoming server (other e-mail accounts also do this and work fine). - Again, works fine from other e-mail clients on same system, so wouldn't seem to be a server, ISP, or system problem.  - Entourage 2004 Cannot Look Up Address Book Names When I create a new message in Entourage 2004, and I click on the button "verify the names" it gives me the error: Error: An unknown error (-3248) occurred. Explanation: Error of LDAP server. Other than this, Entourage works fine--E-mail is retrieved and sent, schedules are maintained, etc. The Outlook client from Office 2001 works properly; we're able to type the first few characters of a name and then click the closest match in the address book. But in Entourage 2004, we are unable to verify names; we must know the recipient's name spelling exactly or we're dead in the water. Also, we really need a way to browse the user list in case the user is stuck and needs to scroll through them. In short, we desire the same functionality that all other Exchange clients have.  - How to import existing html file into Entourage X as a signature I have an html file I want to import into Entourage X to use as a signature. The file is already written in html. When cut & pasted, all that displays is the html text, not what should show up. When I create the file in the new signature box I can't get the image to be alongside the text(image is above text). Question: How to import an existing html file into Entourage as a signature file(do I put it in the MS Data folder and how do I tell entourage to use a custom html file?)  - How I can synchronize Entourage data between 2 computers? Is there any way I can syncronize Entourage 2004 data, such as contacts, calender, sent mails, between 2 Macs? I am an individual user, so I have no access to exchange server. By the way, I know I can syncronize Apple address book & iCal data using iSync & .Mac, but no chance for Entourage users... My 2 Macs are iMac DV+ (for my home office) and PowerBookG4 (for my business trip), both are OS 10.3.6 installed.  - Sending email via an exchange-server Hello, After having a bit of a fight with my brand new ibook (didn't someone mention it looks a nit like a frisbee?) a maneged to connect to exchange. I can synchronize but somehow I can't send. If I try to send an email it is placed in the outbox (folder on my computer) and it is not send. I only get an error: HTTP error. The resource is not found. Mail could not be sent. Error: -18596 Anyone who has a suggestion? At the help desk of our firm they won't help us because they only support PC and not apple. transfer it to my ibook to free up space.

However, although I've re-installed Entourage onto my ibook (also OS9)
from the startup disc, the software just crashes when I try to
download email.

It's not a memory problem. I had not problem in the past when running
Entourage off a secondary hard disc either. It just keeps crashing
when I install it onto my ibook. Any advice anyone?

I'm wondering if there might be something in the software that
prevents you using it on more than one computer....

Any help very gratefully recieved.

Install the latest Office 2001 update:
* Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac Security Update (9.0.5)

Download it from Microsoft:

Try increasing the memory allocation to Entourage. Before opening
Entourage, click the icons and go to File > Get Info > Memory.
Set the Preferred size to at least 20000K, hopefully more.

If that doesn't help, follow the "normal troubleshooting steps" on the
"Crashes" page on The Entourage Help Page to resolve the problem.
