I backed up my database from my old mac and installed Entourage 2004 on
my new tower and the database opened right up. I installed Entourage
2004 on my other work computer, though it will not open the database. It
say that the identity can not be opened with this version of Entourage,
or something like that. Both macs are running 2004. What is wrong?

You need to apply all the updates that have been released to your newly
installed copy of Office.

Select 'Check for Updates" from the Help menu.

I thought it was the same install disc -- I will take a look at the

You quite likely did originally install from the same disks, but Office is
now up to v11.3.2, whereas the installation disks could have a version as
early as 11.0.0 on them (actual version depends when and where you bought
the disks)

Updates are issued from time to time for download and installation to a
pre-existing system. One of these updates (11.2, IIRC) changed the format of
the database, which is why a pre 11.2 application cannot access a database
modified by 11.2+

To check you actual version, don't rely on the version of the applications
themselves, not every application is changed by every update -sometimes it
is only support files that get changed. Instead, check this file:
/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office/Microsoft Component Plugin

That gets the proper version each update (or, it has done so far!)
