I don¹t have an answer for you, but you need to provide the kind of email
account you have, how it is hosted, etc if anyone can help.

Thanks for your reply. I have a domain from Active24.com, and use Entourage on my Mac to access.
This problem has in the past happened once every two or three months, but has occurred 4 times this weekend.
The message below is what I see on the Send and Receive window:
<<The POP server returned an unexpected reply to a command that Entourage issued.>>

Thanks so much, lizzy123

Somehow Entourage is not telling the server to mark those messages as
³read.²

I assume you have your account set up to leave messages on server. I think
that¹s a good idea especially if you ever use another computer or other
software to read your mail.

I think you need to talk to the hosting company (active24, I guesss?) and
see if there are any known issues. I¹ve never seen that particular message.

I you want further help here from smarter people than I you should also say
what version of Entourage you are using. Thanks!

You still didn't reply with what type of email account. POP or IMAP..

It usually server error, but if Entourage looses what has been downloaded,
you will get this problem. You might try moving the messages on the server
to a folder that won't be accessed by Entourage. I would try rebuilding your
database or start with a new Identity. Before downloading again, you might
want to create an archive Identity and select to download all messages from
server. (simply duplicate your current Identity and rename it. In Accounts
--> Options tab click on the button "Get all mail left on server")

How to rebuild database:

As with any procedure like rebuild, it¹s a good idea to make a backup prior
to running. Your data should not be erased, but if something fails during
this process data could be lost. To be doubly sure, duplicate your Identity
folder prior to the rebuild.

Make sure you have enough hard disk space available for twice the size of
your database. As part of the rebuilding process, Entourage creates a second
database file. (Note: your HD also needs breathing room to function)

1. On the Entourage menu, click Turn Off Office Reminders.
2. Quit Messenger and all Microsoft Office applications, including
Entourage.

Hold down the Option key and re-launch the application. In a few seconds,
you¹ll be greeted with the database utility. You can verify and, if
necessary, rebuild the Entourage database by using the Microsoft Database
Utility.

During the rebuild process, the old files are renamed in case for some
reason the rebuild was not successful. After you¹ve rebuilt your database
and checked the application¹s performance, you can delete the old version
from your hard drive. Do NOT throw away these files unless you are satisfied
with the rebuild:

Old files are named:

Main [Backed up date and time will be shown] e.g. Main [Backed up 1.21.2007
13.35]

This also happens to me, I have everything routed through YAHOO. I would like some help also this gets aggravating. I just keep all the duplicates new and then delete all unread messages.
