 - Entourage 2004 will not Sync I am running Entourage 2004 v11.2.1 against an Exchange Server 2003 SP2: The problem is I have a user that has folders nested three deep in his inbox, and some of the third tier folders do not sync. If I login with webmail, items are there. In Entourage, they are not present. Any ideas on possible causes? Is there anything the user could have done to cause the problem?  - Big Address Book Bug? Here's what seems to be a pretty egregious bug I hadn't noticed before SP2: I opened an address book contact and corrected some info, cutting/pasting the home address info to the work address info. I clicked Summary to check it all and then splat-S to save. I then clicked the down arrow to review the next record. All of the work info -- company, job title, and work address from the PREVIOUS contact (the one I had just edited) had been entered into the next record, overwriting it. I had edited a number of records before I noticed this the first time; the info from the very first record I edited was pasted into every record I subsequently touched. I've tried this a couple of times now; it's quite reproducible on my machine (OS X 10.4.2 w/security updates -- including the one that zaps Entourage project colors; Entourage 2004 SP2).  - Enoturage Launches Wrong Program when html link is clicked in message body It was working fine up until a few days ago, but now everytime I click on a link in the body of a message Entourage launches Adobe Illustrator instead of Safari. This is really annoying! I have tried to find a preference that will let me select the program that it should be launching, but I have had no luck. Any ideas?  - Entourage 2004 stalls synching with Exchange 2003 - spinning ball Running Entourage 2004 11.2.1, OS X 10.4.2 on a Dual 2GHz G5 PowerMac, connecting to Exchange 2003 on Small Business Server 2003. I have put the Microsoft User Data folder for my user in the Spotlight Privacy pane. Whenever my mailbox is synchronizing, it stalls when synchronizing with my Deleted Items and Sent Items folders and I just get the spinning ball in Entourage for a period of time before I can continue working in the application. This was also happening with Office Mac SP2 and OS 10.4 My system was upgraded to Tiger and Office SP2 very close together, so I'm unsure of which might be causing the issue, but on Panther 10.3.9 and Entourage 2004 SP1, everything was working fine. Is this a known issue? Is anyone else having this issue? Is there a limit to how many messages it can synchronize with in a folder? My Deleted Items and Sent Items are quite large, there are approximately 10,000 emails in each. Any help would be great. I'm currently having to use Virtual PC or OWA and it's quite frustrating and much slower to use.  - Free/Busy Timezone Problem I'm having problems with the Free/Busy Scheduling tab not being corrected for the timezone the event was created in. In the mail view, the time of the event is: Friday, October 21, 2005 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM (GMT-05.00) Eastern Time (US & Canada) (2:00 PM Locally) When I click on "Show Calendar Event", I see that the start time is 3:00pm-4:00pm, and I get an warning that "Event and computer time zones do not match", which is to be expected. However, when I click on the scheduling tab, I see that the free/busy information was not corrected for the timezone of the event. I still see the purple meeting block from 3:00-4:00, but the blocks for everybody's tenatively accepted box for the event is an hour earlier, from 2:00-3:00. Is there anything I'm doing wrong?  - Update to 11.2.1 I just update to 11.2.1 ( combined) , and Entourage is quiting on start up with an error message . I tried all options, verifying , rebuilding database ... etc . when I removed the database manualy Entourage works, but this is not very helpfull. the database utility state that it is okay. this is unreal, I have tones of important emails, contacts and calnder evets . please please help ...  - Created delegate in Entourage 11.2.1, doesn't show up in Outlook Environment: Mac OS X version 10.4.2 Entourage version 11.2.1 --------------------------- I gave a user delegate (Editor) rights to my calendar. I did this by right clicking on the Exchange folder, selecting "Folder Properties", then "Permissions." When I view my account from Outlook under Windows, this new delegate doesn't show up. Others, who I created from Outlook do. I wanted to have this set up for an employee who is transferring to my shop on Monday, and I don't want to bug her today to see if she does in fact have the rights I wanted to assign to her. The fact that it doesn't show up when I look at it from Outlook makes me doubtful. Does anyone have an explanation for her showing up on my list of delegates in Entourage, but not in Outlook? Thanks. PS: Feature request: I don't see any way to grant or withdraw the right to view private events in Entourage, so I'll probably have to go to Outlook to set this up any way.  - View pane not changed It does not seem that the view pane issue (being able to view mail in one view and newsgroups in another view) seems unchanged with 11.2.1. Will it be addressed in future updates? Losing features seems a step back, though there may be other reasons for this that I don't understand.  - Entourage 2004 mail rule is not working properly One of my rules is not working properly. I have a mail folder for one of my clients and created a rule that would direct emails from various people with the company to that folder. I added a new email address to be directed there recently and also arranged my rules in alphabetical order. Ever since then, messages that normally would be classifed as "Junk" now appear in this folder and marked as "Business." Any suggestions? Thanks for any help.  - Send & Receive for a specific account I'm trying out Entourage 2004, and the Send & Receive functions are really baffling. One problem I'm experiencing is that when I manually try to send & receive from a specific account that is listed in the Send & Receive submenu, messages don't get sent.  - New Calendar Event Window Problem This is a small annoyance but I figured I'd give the list a crack at it. Post-SP2 update, when I want to make a new calendar event (via either the "new"button or the apple-n keystroke) it opens up a windows that is the size of the entourage app window, i.e. HUGE. I then have to rescale it so I can see the calendar. After I rescale it once, new windows then respect that size. However, when I quit and reopen entourage it forgets my new calendar event window size and they are huge again. Interestingly, this issue does not seem to happen with a rescaled email message window.  - Various problems for a newbie... can anyone help??? The Entourage problems are: 1. All mail is received twice. How can I end this? 2. Entourage is incredibly slow. a. When choosing a window in the Address Book, it takes 25 seconds to initiate b. When switching a column view, it takes 25 seconds to initiate 3. When I open a contact, I cannot see all the main info like in Outlook. Is there any way to see the complete "Notes" section? This is very important. 4. The search tool in contacts: Not only is it painfully slow, but it does not have an method (as she had in Outlook) using 'Find' to search any/all fields. 5. After doing a search/find by, for example, country, the results are jumbled. Is there a way to have results of a search open alphabetically? (If I open a search with all 'Germany' buyers, can it open alphabetically?) 6. I need to use groups extensively- once I create a group, how can I modify/change them and easily find them? I hope you can help me. I have recently 'converted' my wife to Mac after her being a lifelong Windows user. She was a power Outlook user and is seriously disappointed by Entourage, and I cannot solve her problems. We appeal to you and anyone else for help. She has almost 3900 contacts- she is an international film Sales Agent and has contacts from countries world wide. I didn't think this many would be a problem, but...  - Entourage 2004 SP2 Sync Fails Environment: Exchange 2003 SP1+Current patches OS X Panther All top-level folders sync fine, however a few select third level folders refuse to sync up. They show empty even though on Outlook and on WebMail they have items. I have emptied cache and even rebuilt the local DB. Nothing helps. Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated!  - Paul Berkowitz' excellent Delay Send X script Paul (or anyone else who might be able to help me out): I sometimes use your "Delay Send X" to set up a series of emails to be sent at a later time (such as when I want to remind people of a series of meetings by drafting the email today, and sending it out the day before the meeting). The problem is that the time-stamp on the email is when it is created (i.e., today) and not when it is sent (i.e., in three weeks) so when they receive the email, if their inbox is sorted by date sent (as mine is) it will not appear as if it is a recent email, but instead will be deemed "unread" but sent weeks earlier. Is there a way to correct this so that the time-stamp reflects when the message is sent, and not when it is written? Is it in the applescript? I do not see this in the Delay Send X preferences.  - Entourage 2004 SP2 - Delegates - SSL I've been reading the posts about using Entourage to Delegate Users and the inability of anyone who's server uses SSL to get the function to work. When setting a Delegate Entourage pops up with the error message that is cannot use a secure connection to set delegate options, however it does allow you to continue. So on my Exchange 2K server that uses SSL how do I configure it to allow unsecure access? Am I correct in saying this is a feature that is not going to work with SSL or is there something I need to toggle on the server to allow this? Any direction on this would be helpful.  - Default columns view Can I change the default columns & grouping that show up for mail folders? Yes, I know that I can change each one and it will store my settings. But individually changing over 50 folders is a pain; furthermore, upgrades and other activities sometimes reset the column view to the default. I'm no stranger to Unix, and I'm willing to muck about in strange preferences files if I can find them. Can anybody give me any tips?  - Re: Entourage Fonts Screwy This probably sounds weird, but a font may have become corrupt after you ran the SP. Take another look at the scrambled letters; there may be a pattern you can discern. If you add or subtract three letters to or from each one (d=a or d=g), and try to disregard the screwed-up spacing between "words" you may be able to decipher what was originally written. This happened to me, too, and what I suspect is that the service pack corrupted Arial. A subsequent Finder search for "Arial" resulted in several fonts about 228KB and one about 1MB. Once I removed the bloated Arial, everything appeared fine.  - Why does it say "On My Computer" Everywhere? OK, this is a new one for me and I've been using Entourage since it first came out and although I have tried searching the archives and the Microsoft site for this, as well as a google search, I have found nothing. That being said, it may be the simplest thing in the world. Since updated Entourage using the most recent auto update from Microsoft, I have "(On My Computer)" appended to a bunch of lists. For example, in the "Move" menu, I see "Inbox (On My Computer)" and "Drafts (On My Computer)". Is this a glitch or does it have something to do with the new Microsoft Exchange compatibility? Can I get rid of it? It's making it more difficult to read these lists and, since everything is on my computer, it is really redundant. FYI, I am using Entourage Version 11.2.0 (050811) and OS 10.3.9. And I have already deleted the preferences and .plist files, and restarted, as well as rebuilt and compacted and rebuilt the databases. Any ideas?  - Database not corrupt but Entourage crashes trying to open it. Help! Entourage crashed after I clicked send update on a calendar booking update. Then when I tried to restart, it crashed on every restart. I used the database tool to verify the database (said it was fine). Still crashes every time. Tried rebuilding the database, reran verify - said it was fine, still crashes every time. Tried compacting the database, reran verify - said it was fine, still crashes every time. (see log entry below). Created a completely new database from scratch, Entourage runs fine. (Clearly program is working ok) Tried to open previous database, crashes every time.  - 2004 Identity will not work after reinstall. I had to rebuild by laptop running 10.4.2 Entourage 2004 SP2. I copied my MS User Data folder to an external drive. Re-built the machine to 10.3.9 - reinstalled Office - Patched to SP2 then copied back my MS user data folder to my home directory and opened Entourage. I get a message saying that this identiy can not be used with this version of Entourage. Any way to import or use this data base? Tired rebuilding NO GO. Any Ideas? I can start terminal, and if it says, "You have new mail.", then I can use 'mail' or pine to read it.  - Delegation still does not work, sort of. Hi there, We have a test Exchange 2003 environment with one server. It has been patched (KB888619, KB889525). I can set up delegation between two user accounts using Entourage SP2 and it works perfectly. In our live environment, KB888619 has been applied to all 5 servers. Our systems team are reluctant to apply KB889525 because 'it's a hotfix, not a patch'. In the live environment, after setting up delegation and adjusting permissions, all I get in the left hand folder pane of Entourage is an entry for the delegate, but no individual mailboxes or calendar. Is there anything I may have missed? I have tried setting up the delegation on Outlook as well as Entourage, this makes no difference. Is the hotfix really neccessary to get delegation working? I have followed various tutorials (at Mactopia and http://www.entourage.mvps.org/) so I am sure I have configured Entourage correctly. Should something else be done on the server side?  - Entourage 2001 version 9.0.6 attachment corruption Right after applying the Office 2001 Update 9.0.6 [on a PowerMac G4 running MacOS 9.2.2], I noticed some attachments of received messages are damaged, most notably compressed files, and resource forks. The problem affects received attachments mime-encoded using "base64" as "application/octet-stream" or "application/applefile", when the size of either the data or resource fork is not a multiple of 3; they loose their one or two last bytes. It is reproducible. With SimpleText, create a file containing exactly 4 letters. Save it. Make a duplicate. Change the file type of the duplicate to "xxxx". Send both files as attachment in an email to self, with the default attachment settings (AppleDouble, no compression). Receive the message and extract the two attachments. Change the type of the duplicate file back to "TEXT". Notice that the content is truncated to 3 chars, while the same file sent as "TEXT" is OK (both are encoded as "base64", but only the "xxxx" one is sent as "application/octet-stream"). Also note that ResEdit reports that the resource fork of both received files is damaged beyond repair. As a workaround, drag the whole received email to the desktop, which saves it as a file with the undecoded attachment; then extract the attachment using Stuffit Expander 7.0.3 (version 6.0.1 will not do). The faulty code appears to be in the library "Microsoft Framework 2001" version 9.0.6 (8320). The problem is cured by reverting to "Microsoft Framework 2001" version 9.0.5 (7407). Unfortunately, this library is destroyed by the Office 2001 Update 9.0.6, and there is not source for it that I could locate on the net. Also, Entourage 2001 version 9.0.6 is still affected by several unrelated bugs that plague earlier versions: - When decoding an attachment encoded as quoted-printable, and the last byte of a 65536 byte block is either a space or a tab, it is lost. This tends to randomly corrupt big attachments encoded as quoted-printable, including text-only PDF files sent by some some Unix mailers which notice the base64 version would be bigger. For a test case, see http://fragrieu.free.fr/QuotedPrintableBug.sit - When decoding an attachment encoded as quoted-printable, and a line ends without the = sign, Entourage decodes this line-ending as 0x0D, when RFC 2045 unambiguously prescribes it should be decoded as 0x0D 0x0A. This tends to corrupt PDF files encoded as quoted-printable by (another) Unix mailer. - When sending text in a message (HTML or text-only), Entourage creates line breaks to respect the 76-character limit of RFC 2045, THEN encode some special characters (diacriticals, the = sign..) using the = sign as prefix. The result is often lines that are longer than 76 characters, and this is NOT compliant with RFC 2045. This is especially nasty in France, where we use a lot of diacriticals, and many recipients see extra line breaks. Demonstration: Make an HTML email with a line containing 50 times the sign = between two empty lines. Save. Examine the source. When I receive a an email that is formated like a webpage (I assume it's html coded) and I try forward it, the graphic formatting of the original disappears and it's just text. I have the prefs set to reply/forward message in the same format as received. Can you tell me why I have a problem forwarding emails formatted like this?  - Microsoft Entourage and Palm Synchronization From my searching of this newsgroup and the various information sites on the web, the current HotSync conduit supplied with Entourage is not very useful if you have a recent Palm handheld (like the Treo 650). Information also suggests that Microsoft wants to make Entourage compatible with Apple's mac sync services, but bugs in the implementation on Apple's side have prevented this update from making it into Office 2004 SP2. My question is that since the issues with sync services have been fixed in Mac OS 10.4.3, and that seeds of the update have been going out to developers for over six weeks, is there an estimated time frame for when we can expect to see a new sync solution for Entourage?  - Printing a sent email with all To addresses Quick question, please. I'd like to print an outgoing email that I'd sent to some 80 people. However, to keep the To list concise and so that all email addresses weren't available to the entire list, I bcc'd everyone and sent the mail to me. Now...I'd like to print that email AND see ALL the addresses to which I sent it. I need this for follow-up reasons. However, all I can get Entourage to do is print the Subject, Date, From (me) and Conversation fields. Not a single email address is visible. Worse yet, I can only get Entourage to DISPLAY about 30 of the recipients. Thereafter, an ellipsis and yellow hint box simply says "and 55 others" but regardless of what I do, I cannot see the rest. I could ostensibly do a print screen to get a copy if necessary, but without the complete list, this is also of no help. I would think Entourage is capable of this, but don't know how.  - E-mail replicates itself when deleted I am using 10.3.9 I can not delete an e-mail. The message I get after the e-mail is highlighted and the trash icon is depressed is as follows: "The action could not be completed. Not enough memory." If the e-mail message is draged to the delete box the message shows up in the delete box and replicates itself in the orginal folder it went to. The e-mail in the orginal folder time actually changes to the time the message was draged to the delete box. I have tryed deleting the e-mail account and making a new one (which has not worked).  - Losing connection and password after SP2 Since updating to SP2, Entourage has been acting quirky. Sometimes, it will fly along for days without a hiccup, and others, it will disconnent me from the server every 20 minutes. The program will randomly kick me off and say it could not retrieve mail and ask if I want to reenter my password information. It makes no difference whether I click yes or no, it won't reconnect. If I simply shut down Entourage and restart, it connects and I can continue. We are running Exchange Server 2000. My next step in trouble shooting would be to delete my Exchange account from Entourage (and all the messages) and recreate and resync. I would prefer not to have to do this, though, so wanted to see if anyone had encountered this issue already and had solved it.  - Lost Addresses I opened Entourage and it is completely blank. I had all my addresses in there and now there are none. I did stupidly mess with my user name on the left side of the Finder window and switched the name. After I realized this completely messed up everything, I deleted my second user name and after readjusting a few things that were mixed up because of said issue, I figured everything was fine.  - Entourage 2001 version 9.0.6 attachment corruption Right after applying the Office 2001 Update 9.0.6 [on a PowerMac G4 running MacOS 9.2.2], I noticed somme attachments of received messages are damaged, most notably compressed files, and resource forks. The problem affects received attachments encoded using "base64" as "application/octet-stream" when the size of either the data or resource fork is not a multiple of 3; they loose their one or two last bytes. It is reproducible. With SimpleText, create a file containing exactly 4 letters. Save it. Make a duplicate. Change the file type of the duplicate to "xxxx". Send both files as attachment in an email to self, with the default attachment settings (AppleDouble, no compression). Receive the message and extract the two attachments. Change the type of the duplicate file back to "TEXT". Notice that the content is truncated to 3 chars, while the same file sent as "TEXT" is OK (both are encoded as "base64", but only the "xxxx" one is sent as "application/octet-stream"). Also note that ResEdit reports that the resource fork of both received files is damaged beyonfd repair. As a workaround, drag the whole received email to the desktop, which saves it as a file with the undecoded attachment; then extract the attachment using Stuffit Expander 7.0.3 (version 6.0.1 will not do). The faulty code appears to be in the library "Microsoft Framework 2001" version 9.0.6 (8320). The problem is cured by reverting to "Microsoft Framework 2001" version 9.0.5 (7407). Unfortunately, this library is destroyed by the Office 2001 Update 9.0.6, and there is not source for it that I could locate on the net. Also, Entourage 2001 version 9.0.6 is still affected by several unrelated bugs that pleague earlier versions: - When decoding an attachment encoded as quoted-printable, and the last byte of a 65536 byte block is either a space or a tab, it is lost. This tends to randomly corrupt big attachments encoded as quoted-printable, including text-only PDF files sent by some some Unix mailers which notice the base64 version would be bigger. For a test case, see http://fragrieu.free.fr/QuotedPrintableBug.sit - When decoding an attachment encoded as quoted-printable, and a line ends without the = sign, Entourage decodes this line-ending as 0x0D, when RFC 2045 unambiguously prescribes it should be decoded as 0x0D 0x0A. This tends to corrupt PDF files encoded as quoted-printable by (another) Unix mailer. - When sending text in a message (HTML or text-only), Entourage creates line breaks to respect the 76-character limit of RFC 2045, THEN encode some special characters (dicriticals, the = sign..) using the = sign as prefix. The result is often lines that are longer than 76 characters, and this is NOT compliant with RFC 2045. This is especially nasty in France, where we use a lot of diacriticals, and many recipents see extra line breaks.  - Entourage X toolbar button problem Hello, As I am not a MacExpert, so I ask this community for an idea or a way... One of my friend have a Powerbook 12' with Tiger (upgraded from Panther sevral weeks ago) and Office X. All applications work perfectly.... except Entourage since 3 days. 1) At launch time, Entourage says "Mail Error, the action has not completed" without any error code. After closing this message box, Entourage starts normally... Where / How can I have more detail on this error. 2) When one clicks on any toolbar buttons ( new or reply, delete etc ...) , the click looks like accepted but no action is done. If one uses the menu option or the shortcut it works fine. This appears only in Entourage. Excel, Word PPT works fine with buttons.  - Address Book/Contacts List & Junk Mail Filtering in Entourage/Exchange configuration I have to nominally separate but related questions regarding the Address Book/Contacts List in 11.2 when tapping into a Exchange server. 1. What logic is used to divide up the Address Book when upgrading to 11.2? I understand that groups are perforce part of the Address Book, but in at least a couple of instances, I've had clients who get some of their individual address book entries moved to the Exchange Contacts List, while some remain local. I don't understand why this occurs. 2. When you note a message as "Not junk mail" and choose the Add sender to Address Book option, it goes to the local Address Book. Will it also look at the Contacts list on the Exchange server to assist in spam filtering? If so, perfect. If not, it's a major inconvenience, because it essentially results in a requirement that two address books be maintained, if you want those addresses available via OWA.  - Trouble Sending Email With Entourage and POP account Hello All, Looking for some help. I've used Entourage to connect to my Comcast POP account successfully for the last couple of years. This morning when I launched Entourage, I received my emails to my Inbox just fine, but when trying to send emails, I received the following error message: Error: Permit Denied Explanation: Cannot send mail. The SMTP server does not recognize any of the authentication methods supported by Entourage. Try changing the SMTP authentication options in Account settings or contact your network administrator. Nothing has changed with my account settings, but to play it safe; I deleted my current Account Settings and established new ones only to receive the same error message.  - Public folders Does anyone know why every time you launch entourage, it has to download all the messages in a public folder? It used to keep all the messages and just synchronize them.  - Entourage deletion problems I have an issue where emails I mark for deletion from my IMAP account sometimes don't disappear from my Inbox and Junk Email folders. It's also not that they remain with a line through them--there isn't even a line. I also have a problem with email forwarding (I think). My IMAP account is set to forward to my Gmail account, both of which I have as accounts in Entourage. It used to be the case that an email sent to my IMAP account would show up in the IMAP inbox and the "Folders on my Computer" inbox. Now, emails are spontaneously moving from my "Folders on my Computer" inbox to the IMAP inbox, creating multipe copies there. I don't think those emails are actually showing up on the server (though they might be). Any help would be appreciated. I'm running Tiger 10.4 with Entourage 11.2.0 (the latest version).
Recently Entourage has started to put some emails that are coming to me
from people in my address book, into the junk email folder.
I have the junk mail filter set to highest strength but Entourage
should not be putting contacts contained in my address book into the
junk folder.
Is anyone experiencing this problem or know of a solution?
I would have thought that clicking the Not Junk button in the junk
folder would allow the program to learn from it's mistakes but it does
not seem to.

I have definitely experience this and I can't point to a pattern.
Entourage has even junkified messages that I have sent to myself from
alternate addresses that are listed in my own contact card!

The second is definitely not a bug - it's by design. One of the most common
forms of spam is where spammers fake your own email address as sender. So
Entourage will definitely mark as junk messages coming from yourself that
otherwise are spam-like (most often a trashy or vague subject line). You
could add those email address domains to your Safe Domains in Tools/Junk
Email Protection, or to a "Not Junk" rule with just your addresses.

There should be no other contacts in your Address Book put into Junk, unless
you have a rule with criteria they meet which assigns Junk status or
category or moves the message.
