For this week (and this week only), all the times on my calendar are
off by an hour because it thinks that daylight savings time is over. I
looked in Preferences for a solution and it lets me change my time
zone for new entries, but this does not help me with all of my
existing entries. I could manually go in and make them all earlier by
one hour, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of a genuine fix for this
and not a workaround. Thanks for your help and input.

You must be running a version of Entourage 2004 earlier than 11.3.2 (I
believe that was the version that made the adjustment) or you haven't
updated your Mac OS X 10.3.9 system lately. This update essentially
ripped out all Daylight Saving Time information and told Entourage to
use the Mac OS X system's DST information.

In Mac OS X 10.3.9, select Apple menu --> Software Update. If necessary,
be sure to display all "ignored" updates.

In Entourage, check your version by selecting About Entourage from the
Entourage menu. To update, select Help --> Check for Updates.

Hope this helps!

Hi Bill,

Thank you so much for your advice. It was correct. My Mac OS is
10.4.10, but my Entourage had not been updated at all. In fact, when I
went to Check Updates, I didn't even have the software installed to
check for and make updates. Which means that my entire Microsoft
Office was not benefitting from the updates from the last few years, I
guess! Again, thank you for not only fixing my calendar problem, but
getting me on track with the updates.

Abigail

You need to get these updaters:

11.3.5 combo
11.3.6 requires 11.3.5 to be installed
11.3.7 requires 11.3.6 to be installed
11.3.8 requires 11.3.7 to be installed

I've been wrestling with this same problem, particularly when sending
calendar invites from iCal to Entourage. The time is correct in the
actual Entourage calendar event, but is displayed as one hour earlier
in the Entourage Calendar view (month, day, etc.). My version of
Entourage is current (11.3.8). I've checked all the time zone
settings, and they're all consistent (Central). Microsoft's Knowledge
Base indicates that this is a known problem, fixed by the 11.3.3
update, but I've not found that to be the case. Anybody have any ideas
as to what is causing the problem that I'm observing? Thanks!

What is your Mac OS version? 10.3.9 or 10.4.x? If 10.3.9 then you must
download and install the DST patch available earlier this year.

If 10.4.x then you must update to at least 10.4.5 (U.S.) or 10.4.6
(other DST changes) available about a year ago.

Keep in mind that old events that have the wrong time may need to be
manually updated.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info, Bill.

I'm running Tiger 10.4.10, and Entourage 11.3.8. This is happening for
new events (created today for the future), so I would assume that it's
not DST-related.

It appears that this problem occurs only when iCal creates an event
and invites an Entourage user. Here are my observations of such
events:

1. In the invitation email, the End Date is shown as January 1, 1601.
Clearly this is incorrect.
2. The event posts to the entourage calendar, BUT with a duration of
zero (even though the original event was created in iCal with a non-
zero duration, say, 1 hour).
3. The event does NOT initially show up in any of the Calendar views
(Month, for example). Apparently, this is due to the fact that the
duration is zero.
4. If you open the event in Entourage and manually change the duration
to a non-zero value, THEN the event will show up in Calendar views.
5. However, the event is still displayed with a start time one hour
earlier than the actual start time, as shown in the event itself.

Sigh. Alas, I'm forced to conclude that there is some incompatibility
between iCal and Entourage. For example, I know that iCal (in Tiger)
sends invitations with a START TIME and a DURATION (as opposed to an
END TIME). The RFC for ICS states that either and END TIME or a
DURATION can be used (but not both).

Incidentally, invitations sent by another instance of Entourage seem
to post correctly in all respects, so once again, it would appear that
there is some sort of disconnect between iCal and Entourage.

I've found posts describing this very problem in the Apple Discussion
Forum (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?
messageID=5593388&#5593388) dating back to 2005, so you'd think this
problem would have been fixed by now!
