 - How to use Entourage X and Outlook same database Hi, I constantly switch from MacOS X (Entourage X) and MacOS 9 (Outlook Express) and check my mail (Imap account) on both systems. Then, there's a way to use the same database folder with my address book and configurations on the Entourage and Outlook, because right now, when I add a new mail address, I have to add manually to Outlook Express on the MacOS 9 and then (if I don't forget it), in Entourage X on the OS X.  - Entourage X rebuild problems (I also posted this on the Entourage-Talk mailing list. I hope this is OK.) The Problem: I am having a serious problem with my mail database. I cannot access the data and rebuilding does not work. To make things worse the last backup was made on June 13th, which I hate to admit. There has been important mail communication since then which I would really, really hate to loose. Therefore, I would be most thankful for any help on how to solve my problem! The Details: I am running the latest version of Entourage X on Mac OS X 10.2.6 with Office v. X 10.1.3. My database is already fairly big, it has 2.28 GB (2.453.017.424 Bytes). I read that the maximum size can be 4 GB so it should still work. Three days ago Entourage stopped working. On starting it shows the following error, without an error number: "Accessing the data is not possible. Perhaps the problem can be solved by rebuilding the database." After pressing OK I get: "To rebuild the database quit all other Microsoft Office applications and try it again." (I am translating these from German so the English error messages probably are somewhat different.) I did not find the error on http://www.entourage.mvps.org. I quit Entourage X and start a Typical Rebuild. I see a progress bar from 0 to 10220, probably the total number of my mails. After 1 minute progress is on 200. There it stays around 5 minutes. The new database grows to 3.23 GB. I checked that in the Finder. After 9 minutes I get the following error, again without an error number: "The database could not be rebuilt, because there is not enough space left to create the new database files." Actually, I have 15.7 GB of free space on the hard disk. I assume that the 4 GB limit was reached. When I look in the Finder the new database was deleted again and I still have my database with 2.28 GB. I tried an Advanced Rebuild. First it does some preparation, the progress bar goes from 0 to 10220. Then it does compaction. The progress bar from 0 to 10220 is on 1400 after 1 minute. There it says for quite some time. The new database grows from 1 GB to 3.9 GB (4.193.139.408 bytes) in 11 minutes. After 13 minutes the progress moves from 1400 to 2700. After 14 minutes I get the following message: "The database was rebuilt. The old versions of the database files were renamed to Old Database and Old Database Cache. They can be moved to the trash." After pressing OK I get: "The storage limit of the Entourage database was reached. The Entourage database can save up to 4 Gigabyte (GB) of information. This limit is now reached. Compact the database by doing a Typical Rebuild." The new database has 4 GB (4.294.967.280 Bytes, 16 bytes less than the full 4 GB). Entourage prompts me for a rebuild. I do a Typical Rebuild again. It starts compacting the database, again from 0 to 10220. It stays at 1300 for 13 minutes. Then there is a second progress bar named "compacting and optimizing email" from 0 to 1288. After 14 minutes the following message is shown: "The database was rebuilt. The old versions of the database files were renamed to Old Database and Old Database Cache. They can be moved to the trash." Entourage X opens but does not show my identity but the main identity. When I switch to my identity I get the message: "The storage limit of the Entourage database was reached. The Entourage database can save up to 4 Gigabyte (GB) of information. This limit is now reached. Compact the database by doing a Typical Rebuild." The database has now 3.99 GB (4.292.677.552 bytes). I tried doing a Typical Rebuild again without success. When I open Entourage X I get the message: "The storage limit of the Entourage database was reached. The Entourage database can save up to 4 Gigabyte (GB) of information. This limit is now reached. Compact the database by doing a Typical Rebuild." Then it prompts me to do a rebuild. If I say cancel I get the follwing error message, without an error number: "Error during startup. Message error." The questions: 1. Why does the rebuild try to grow my database from 2.28 GB to 4 GB so that the storage limit is reached? 2. Why does it say there is too little space on my disk if I have 15.7 GB free? 3. Does anyone have an idea what else I could try? 4. Can anyone please provide me documentation about the file format of the Entourage X database? I am a programmer myself and could write a program to save my mails if I had this information. 5. What might be the reason for the first error message in the first place? ("Accessing the data is not possible. Perhaps the problem can be solved by rebuilding the database.") I did not make any unusual observations like message errors before. The speculations: I wildly guess that there is some error in the rebuild. Maybe there is some corrupt message so that Entourage reads over its end and thinks it is huge. The rebuild staying that long at one place and the database growing to almost twice the size seems to support that assumption. Perhaps the actual limit for the Entourage X database is not 4 GB but actually somewhere at 2 GB due to the design of the rebuild process. In this case it should be documented. The pledge: I would be really, really thankful if someone could provide me information to fix this problem and get to my emails. If you need some additional information from me or want me to try out things I will gladly do that. If you can provide me with test programs which check my database for certain error conditions I am willing to run them. If you provide me with information about the file format I will help debugging the problem. Thank you for your patience and support!  - Junk mail filter overzealous I'm running Entourage X on OS 10.1.5. When I receive new mail that I've sent to myself, it goes straight into the Deleted Items folder. Actually, many messages that are not junk go into Deleted Items, even though I've set a rule for junk mail to go into a junk mail folder. Any ideas?  - Missing entourage folders Comrades: I was forced to reinstall OS 10.2.6 and Microsoft Office X recently. This seems to have deleted all of my personal folders in Entourage (the folders listed under "on my computer" in the folder pane). I backed up my hard drive before restalling the above software and the reinstall created a folder on my hard drive called "previous systems" that contains most of the previous, relevant files.  - Changing keyboard layout / input type stops spell checking Hello, I have recently acquired a Polish language spelling dictionary for Office X, which installs nicely into the standard location for dictionaries in "Shared Applications." In Word, this dictionary works beautifully, but in Entourage a strange problem emerges. In Entourage, when I write using the US keyboard layout, I can spell check fine using either the English (UK) or Polish dictionaries (but this latter part isn't very useful, since Polish contains Central European font characters). When I switch the Input Type to Polish, so I can write Polish words correctly, whatever I type is ignored by the spell checker, using any dictionary. It's as if the spell checker simply does not see any text entered using the Polish Input Type. Any ideas on how I can get the spell checker to recognise text entered using the Polish Input Type, so I can actually use the Polish dictionary to check Polish spelling?  - Purging old newsgroup postings? Hello all--is there a way for me to delete old newsgroup postings in Entourage X? I've tried selecting and pressing Delete and Cmd-Delete, but the "Delete Message" and "Delete Thread" options are greyed-out in the "Edit" menu.  - PocketPC Sync with new Entourage? I regrettably purchased a Pocket PC which worked quite well with Entourage for OS9. Someone could send me an email with an event. I would accept. It would automatically add it to my calendar. They have changed the calendar standard in Entourage for X (you would think both Microsoft products would be compatible) and now the dates are all wacky.  - Dismissed Office Notifictions reappear on upgrade to X I imported my data from Entourage 2002 to X and office notifications that were previously dismissed appeared again in the dock (all 916 of them).  - BBC message won't send ... I tried to sent a message with a BBC list of about 150 recipients. It froze part way through, and left the message in the Outbox. "Send and receive" failed to finish or restart the process. I've quit Entourage, restarted, tried resend a number of times ... and I see no activity indicated by the "progress gear." I would gladly create a new message and resend, but when I try to open the errant message, in order to copy its contents, I get the following error message: "Can't open the message because it is being send."  - Entourage Deletes My Email Too! Hello Listers! I just wanted to chime in and say that Entourage deletes email on my IMAP (.mac) account also. It is always the OSXList Digest. It will also rename and replace the email with the next email message. This has happened five or six times, and I have only been using Entourage for about two weeks! Other than this quirk I love it!  - Big issue with Restore/Import Messages after backup Hi all ! I've got an issue trying to Import back the messages I previously saved from Entourage 2001. I did save all the messages with drag & droping the folders (including the Inbox) to a safe place, on another Mac. Then I installed again the iMac (format the HDD, install Mac OS 9.2.2, Office 2001, getting back the data and the old Entourage folders on the HDD, etc). Then I drag & dropped back the folders with my old messages back in Entourage 2001. And here come the problems... The restoration of the small folders was fine - OK. The restoration of the BIG folders (more than 150 MB, i.e. 1500 messages in store in a single folder) works but only partially: some messages are missing, since a more or less precise date (for example: in the Inbox, I have only the messages running from the Jan 1 2003 until March 27 2003 - nother after this date). No error message pops up. I upgraded Office 2001 to SR1, and started again the Imports - but that doesn't add anything to the gloomy picture...  - What's this line through messages? I have a junk mail folder on our IMAP server. After "deleting" the messages in that folder, I can still see them but they are crossed out. What happened to them?  - Can't setup schedule for IMAP account In Entourage X, JMF puts a all junk mail in the junk mail folder on the server. I want to delete this folder every so often.  - Lost identity? Hi! I have a G3 iMac and Microsoft Office, and I appear to have lost all my Entourage data. Apologies in advance for the long posting below. Some time ago I had an "end of the file was reached" message when transferring to Entourage from Outlook Express and was told this meant my database was corrupted. Tonight, while doing some exploring, I came across the old OE Database, Database Cache, Mailing Lists and Messages files. I decided to copy them into my Identities folder (suffixing them with OE), thinking they might contain the lost OE info. When I then tried to open Entourage, I initially got a message that it could not open with that identity (unspecified). I then dragged the four OE documents onto the desktop and opened Entourage again. This time it opened up, but with all my addresses, emails and diary appointments gone, and nothing but a welcome message from the Microsoft Mac team! Does this mean I've lost all my data? Or is it being held somewhere on the disk? In desperation I then tried to open Outlook Expess, and to my surprise I got the following message: "To use data from your previous version of Outlook Express, move or copy the identities folder located in ... to the Outlook Express 5.02 folder ... and start Outlook Express again". Is this message telling me I can now use the original data I had lost when I first transferred to Entourage? Apologies once more for the long posting. I hope I've given you enough information.  - Applescript or Outgoing Rule and Multiple Accounts Hi List - I have about 12 accounts in entourage 10.1.1 and want to prevent sending a message to someone in my address book from the wrong account. The easiest way I can see to do this is create an outgoing rule that looks for the recipient's category and then changes the account from which it is being sent. The first part is doable in the rules - but as far as I can tell, the second is not. I found an apple script called Other Account 1.0.1 which will work - but to do so I have to have a group and add everyone for a given account into that group. It also seems to be able to handle only one group - I need the ability to handle 3 different accounts. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance for your time!  - Printing from Entourage causes an error 79 on our HP Laserjet 5000 Every time this employee tries to print from Entourage to our HP 5000N it causes a 79 error and the printer needs to be restarted. Before I send another printer ro purchase a new one for that office I was hoping there may be a fix for this problem. Microsoft seems to point the finger at HP and vice versa.  - Export / Import Palm data Greetings Everyone, This is driving me nuts, I am trying to get my palm data to Entourage, and vice versa. I managed to get the import from my Palm Desktop, kind of. However, when exporting from Entourage to the Palm Desktop the names were exported but nothing else was exported. I'm on a Macintosh, running X.2.6 and Entourage v.X, the palm in question is a Zire .. if anyone knows what's might be going wrong, or the like please let me know, as i'm ready to scream.  - Recovering e-mail I recently installed Mac OSX 10.2. In prep for soing so I saved all my data to a standalone hard drive. However, after re-installing Office 2001 for the Mac I am unable to find all my previously existing e-mails. Where does Entourage save them (on that standalone hard drive) and how can I recover them?  - How can I schedule an alarm same day as all day event? I want to set Entourage to remind me if it's someone birthday on that day at 11am. I have birthdays listed as all day events. I know I could change them to be meetings at a certain time, and then the alarm is easy to schedule. But that seems like it shouldn't be necessary. Also, I have several hundred birthdays in my calendar and would hate to have to change them all. Having done a test (set an alarm x hours before the event) it puts the alarm x hours before midnight. And you can't set an alarm to be negative (after the event) so it seems like the latest you can set an alarm for an all day event is 12am on that day.  - Problem applying update 10.1.2 I'm trying to apply Office update 10.1.2 to office OS X. Here is the problem: Install program says it succeeds; Excel, Power Point and Word update properly and show proper release number and builds, however Entourage fails to start with a "Entourage temp folder not found" message. Doing "get infor" on Entourage shows that it was not updated. Looking at the updater log I see a "update error -15" for Entourage, micorsoft graph, and english spelling. These files were not moved to the trash as the others were. Removing Office via the Remove Office app in the Value Pack and reinstalling results in same errors. Can't find any mention of update error 15 anywhere. This is a valid Office CD university issue. We get this same error on an iBook and 2 falt-panel iMacs (using same CD). All running OSX v 10.2.6.  - Limit on number of Recipients in Entourage? Is there a limit on the number of recipients I can email a single message to? I've had trouble in the past with groups over 50 or 100 and so I've been chopping my lists up, but I'd really prefer not to. Hi,

I constantly switch from MacOS X (Entourage X) and MacOS 9 (Outlook Express)
and check my mail (Imap account) on both systems.

Then, there's a way to use the same database folder with my address book and
configurations on the Entourage and Outlook, because right now, when I add a
new mail address, I have to add manually to Outlook Express on the MacOS 9
and then (if I don't forget it), in Entourage X on the OS X.
