I'm seeing severe performance problems with Entourage X when connecting
to an EIMS 3.2.5 server on our local LAN.

The problem on the LAN typically is that in the Progress window, several
operations will queue up, without any completing (reading messages,
updating mailboxes, etc.).

However, when connecting from home through my cable modem, everything
runs smoothly.

This is both on the same machine (PB G4 1.25) and on a Dual 1.25
desktop, both running 10.3.4.

Can anyone duplicate this behavior? I'd like to think this isn't
isolated to my office.

Thanks.

Cheers,
Jon

It could be that your SysAd has EIMS set to limit the number of concurrent
connections to 1. Then, each action has to queue up and wait for the
previous one to complete before EIMS will allow the next action to connect.

On a local network there is almost no reason at all to limit the connections
this rigorously.

Barry,

IMAP connections are set for 120 total with a limit of 10 per
user-should be enough to handle our 30 accounts.

I'd like to note that I'm seeing similar behavior at a couple of EIMS
installations (differing locations), but that older clients (Outlook
Express 5.06 & Entourage 2001) seem to be OK.

Other IMAP clients like Mulberry 3.1.x are OK (no issues discernable).

Server hardware is a G4/867, 256M RAM, running 9.2.2 with a pair of
striped 10k SCSI drives (ultra 160) with an ATTO U160 controller. Should
be enough horsepower to serve everyone.

Thanks.

Cheers,
Jon
