Entourage and Hotmail

I used to check my hotmail accounts using Entourage (Mac equivalent of
Outlook). A few months ago this feature was discontinued ... :-(

A couple of weeks back, I got an email from Microsoft saying that users of
Outlook could once more check their Hotmail using Outlook. Yay!!!

However when I tried using Entourage to check my Hotmail, it still won't
work. :-(

Am I missing a workaround or am I just plain out of luck?

I check my hotmail every day with Entourage and I have no problems with it.
Maybe try to set it up as a new account? Go to Entourage/Account
Settings/New and set it up. I can't remember but I think one of the choices
is Hotmail Account. Just follow it along -- that is all I did -- and it set
it up for me. I just clicked !

Thanks. I did do that. I first deleted all my hotmail accounts when the
feature (checking Hotmail via Entourage) was cancelled by Microsoft.

When I got their msg saying that I could use Outlook to check Hotmail, I
went in to Entourage and set up all my accounts again - yes, there is indeed
a Hotmail setting to check off.

Now all I get is a "receiving entire folder list" msg in the Progress bar
and nothing more happens. I don't have any folders set up in Hotmail ...
Just the usual Inbox.

I forgot to mention the error msg that I get after some time:

Explanation:
HTTP error. The server does not support this request.

Any ideas what could be generating this error? I've tried entering my
account name as <user> and as <user@hotmail.com>. Both formats give the same
failure result.

Nonplussed ....

Silly me ... I should have mentioned that I'm using Entourage 2001 with Mac
OS9.2.2.

Perhaps that makes a diff?

Yes, it does make a difference.

The hotmail protocol was changed a year or more ago. An update to entourage
allowed access once again, but I doubt that entourage 2001 ever got a
'hotmail fix' update.

I know that the updates for Office 2001 do include improvements for Hotmail
access, though I'm not sure if any additional Hotmail support has been added
to the later versions. At any rate, David should be sure to download the
Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac Security Update (9.0.5) from:
