Is the message read (unbold) the whole time, or does it change from unread
(bold) to read (unbold) when you click on it? If you select it and press
shift-command-T (Mark as Unread in the Message menu) does it still appear
white?
Next time, right-click or control-click on the message, and in the
contextual menu check Categories --> . Is the correct category selected, and
no other one? If so, go to Edit/Categories/Assign Categories. If you
de-select the category there and re-assign it, is it still white? If so, go
to Edit/Categories/Edit Categories. Is the color in the color swatch at the
right the Aqua shade you expect? This is the "bold" color version. Or has it
been changed?
