 - Rule works when tested but not applied to incoming Folks: MacOS 10.2.8 Entourage 10.1.4 Build O30702 Filtering isn't working, as follows: I have two rules enabled: Rule #1 "junkmail" [topmost in list] Execute...if any criteria are met --If-- o Is Junk Mail --Then-- o Play sound -- No mail sound o Change status -- Junk mail o Move message -- junkmail [Enabled] Do not apply other rules to messages that meet these criteria Rule #2 "antispam" [bottom in list] Execute...if any criteria are met --If-- o Subject -- Contains -- Henry o Message body -- Contains -- Citrate o Date sent -- is greater than -- 1 days o Message body -- Contains -- viagra ...(lots of other items regarding body parts, high finance, etc.) --Then-- o Move message -- spam o Play sound -- No mail sound [Enabled] Do not apply other rules to messages that meet these criteria The Junk Mail Filter (JMF) is enabled and set to the highest value. I've been getting a steady stream of spam today, but NONE is going into either folder "junkmail" or the alternate folder "spam". Instead, spam simply appears in my Inbox as if I had implemented none of this. Why? My interpretation of the two-rule setup described above is: FIRST, Entourage applies its standard for junk. Apparently no recent messages meet these criteria, so... SECOND, each message is then examined by the second rule, which includes a bunch of keywords and conditions I picked. I can sniff around by selecting some spam messages in my Inbox, and then, in the following order: 1) I choose Message-->Apply Rule-->All Rules, and then nothing happens, which is NOT what I expect, since the messages invariably include one or more of the criteria in Rule #2. 2) I choose Message-->Apply Rule--> junkmail, also nothing happens. I was assured in an earlier post that JMF is only run via "All Rules" so this does absolutely nothing -- there's no way the status of the messages can be changed. Fair enough. 3) If I choose Message --> Apply Rule --> antispam, I hear a short beep and the message is moved to folder "spam". This is exactly what I expect for all messages I've checked today. OK, so why does the normal reception sequence or executing Message-->Apply Rule-->All Rules fail to delete these messages? Is there something that's preventing the second rule from being applied? The option "Do not apply other rules to messages that meet these criteria" doesn't seem to have any effect, because the criteria of the first rule is not being applied. Oh yes, I don't have "Mistress Zelda", "LongDong", et al listed in my address book, not that --as I understand-- this should prevent the second rule from being applied. But maybe I'm wrong.  - [TIP][10.3] SMTP server Hi All, Some of us have had some issues with their Exchange SMTP servers (refusing to send e-mail for alternate addresses or simply refusing to send any mail at all). MacOS X 10.3 now has Postfix preinstalled whichc can turn your Mac into an SMTP server. If the port 25 is open on your network (which is often the case), you can turn your own Mac into your SMTP server very easely in MacOS X 10.3 (it is far more complex in 10.2.8 which uses Sendmail by default instead of Postfix). You can use your favorite editor (I use BBEdit) or do it through pico, vim......) with administrator privileges (sudo through the Terminal). In /etc/hostconfig replace MAILSERVER=-AUTOMATIC- with MAILSERVER=-YES- In /etc/postfix/master.cf at line 77, iyou need to de-comment "smtp". Replace: # smtp with smtp in the Terminal, then enter: sudo postfix start authenticate AND THAT'S IT !!!!! You're done :-))) The address of your own personnal SMTP is now "localhost" (without the quotes of course). Extra configuration can be perform editing the /etc/postfix/main.cf This file is fairly straightforward.The default settings are rather safe: They even disable any relaying from other machines..... You shouldn't turn your Mac into a relay for spammers :-))) After a modification in the configuration file, simply enter in the Terminal: sudo postfixt restart This saved my life (well my e-mails) here since our Exchange server won't send e-mails unless the From address corresponds to its user list, preventing me to send anything from my numerous alternate addresses...  - Problems with .pdf Whenever I receive a forwarded .pdf file attachment from anyone using=20 Outlook I get a grey screen when I try to open it.  - How to correct the "Some text in this message is in a language your computer cannot display" warning. Certain emails I receive come with a warning saying, "Some text in this message is in a language your computer cannot display", and therefore the message remains blank, even though this message was written in English!  - Problem trying to set up Comcast account I can't find answer to my problem in the Entourage FAQ. G5, OSX 2.6, Entourage 10.1.0 (2006) I have several hotmail accounts set up and use them with no problems. I have a Comcast account which I can access through the Internet - no problem. In entourage, I go to Tools and set up a new account (Comcast tech support verified my info). Tools shows this as an account. The problem is that this new account does not show up in the list of available accounts that is listed on the left side of the window. Any ideas? Thanks.  - Help with Exchange Server Address Book Sending and receiving mail from internal and external contacts works. Scheduling events with the calendar seems to be working fine. My issue with Entourage X is with the Global Address Book. I am getting an error "LDAP Server Error." with an explanation of "A connection failure has occurred.' and an error code of "-3260".  - Problem using an Applescript found in MacWorld Hello, I downloaded an Applescript off of http:scriptbuilders.net. There was an article in the latest MacWorld about it. It's called Entourage Many to Word. You highlight an email (or many emails) and click this script and it opens a Word doc and put the email into the Word doc. My problem is that is makes four (4) copies of each email. It happens when I pick one email (or many) I want to use this to back up my email. I have a folder with 1192 messages in it and there's no reason to keep it around, but it would be nice to turn it into a couple documents...  - Unexpected Entourage crash This just started happening today, out of the blue. No new changes made to system, accounts, etc. When accessing my "sent items" folder, some of the items in the list are obscured, and attempting to scroll down the list causes Entourage to crash and I get the following message: "Entourage has unexpectedly quit". No error message or number is associated with this. I tried deleting all the old messages in my sent items box by setting up a schedule item and running it manually (thereby deleting the items without having to open or directly access the Sent Items folder), but this did not seem to make a difference. One thing I did differently today: I sent out an email to about 60 contacts at once that included a few attachments (two Word documents with a total size of about 400k).  - Calender time problem My calendar has had the problem recently of posting any new event time I create 4 hrs ahead on my eventual calendar view. This has also effected my email time stamp. It, too, is off by 4 hrs ahead. Tech Support at MacConnection where I bought the Mac Office Package also had the same problem with their test system when they tried to help. ...and they couldn't find the fix. The two places to set time zones (in the new event option section & on the general preference time zone in Entourage) have all been checked & double checked & are set correctly. This problem could have potentially developed recently after an entourage update or Mac OS X system update was done ?? Any ideas how to fix time settings ?  - Is there a way to save unsent mail as an Entourage mail file instead of as text? I run an internet business and would like to have boilerplate e-mails to use for some routine transactions. If I use SaveAs for mail a receive, there is an option to choose the format, but there isn't such an option if I'm saving mail I haven't sent yet. Any advice? Thanks!  - Outbox frozen Periodically my outbox folder, and now my draft folder freeze up. I can not open the folders, I can not delete the folders and rebuilding database does not help.  - Error 11003 When trying to set up an account in EntourageX (Version 10.1.4) with the IMAP server, I got the message: "Invalid account ID or password. Check your account settings." "Error 11003" Setting up the account with exactly the same settings on a pc went flawlessly. When I set up my own account on the same Mac with the same EntourageX, all was ok and I could read my whole mailbox. Can somebody explain what is the problem with the other account?  - calendar problems I am using entoutage 10.1.4 with OSX 10.2.8. Recently I have been experiencing freezes or at least VERY LONG delays in switching when I switch to calendar view and when I try to save new calendar entries. The sync conduit has stopped working (it too crashes before synching). I have tried rebuilding the data base (both typical and advanced) and I have rebuilt permissions. Any other suggestions?  - When the Inbox Has SubFolders I find that when the Inbox has subfolders, the Inbox no longer shows any messages when selected.  - Can receive mail but cannot send Hi I travel a lot and have a constant problem with not being able to send mail. It receives fine but cannot send. Today in a hotel in Kansas city I was pleased to find Wayport high speed access in the hotel. On a whim I changed the outgoing address to smtp.wayport.com and off my mail went. But my normal smtp address will not work when I'm on the road (mail.optonline.net) although that works fine when I'm home on my normal cable connection.  - Bcc Only In Outlook I could send messages that included only 'bcc' addressees (to keep personal addresses private). Entourage X seems to only allow this if you include at least one address in the 'To' or 'Cc' positions. Am I missing something?  - Access Identity/User Data Across Network I would like to access my Entourage X data files which are on my desktop computer from my laptop.  - Mail Error I am using Entourage (on OS10.2.6), latest update and it displays an error message at startup: "The action could not be completed.  - LDAP Error 10001 on GAL search We are successfully using Exchange 2000 for sending and receiving of messages (so IMAP and SMTP are working). OWA works from a Mac browser. The problem I have is in trying to search Active Directory via LDAP to access the GAL. It returns LDAP Error 10001. I've not been able to locate any information on this error. We are not using SSL and have not changed the default ports. I configured the Exchange server as a secondary CA server and the PDC is the primary CA. On the PC side I've successfully obtained certificates from both servers. Also, I've successfully searched AD from Outlook Express. I just changed my e mail address for my newsgroups, and when I went into Entourage to delete one of my old newsgroup accounts it said, "deleting 19,890 messages" What are these 20,000 messages, and were they on my hardrive????  - Sorting the Inbox We are running Entourage with OS 9.1 on G3 computers. I have 2 users who cannot sort their inboxes by anything but the date.  - Deleted Items Folder We are using Entourage X with Exchange. I have a user having trouble seeing everything in her deleted Items folder. The folder will be bold meaning she has unread items in her deleted items folder. (She does delete some emails with out ever reading them.) However, when she opens the deleted items folder, it is empty. When I open her email account on a PC using Microsoft Outlook, her deleted items folder has several read and unread emails. I can delete these emails and then her deleted items folder is no longer bold in Entourage.  - HTML Calendar events? I am trying to add HTML to my calendar events. For example, when I try to paste a link into an event, it saves it as plain text. If I go to the menu bars at the top, it will not let me select HTML format. Is there something I'm missing? Also, in Outlook you can just drag an email to the calendar and an event is created, with the email text in it. Is there anything like that you can do in Entourage?  - Emails deleted permanently - solution? Hello, any help in this small but annoying problem would be appreciated. Whenever I delete an email in Entourage, it deletes permanently (doesn't go to a "deleted items" or "recycle bin" folder first). I am unable to find a preference for changing this.  - Broken rules My junk mail rules suddenly stopped working, so much of the mail that used to get filtered into a junkmail folder now stays in my main mailbox. Any ideas what might have caused this and how to fix it. I had rearranged my rules to send messages from three select addresses to a special mailbox, and that is when the other rules stopped working, but I can't figure out how to go back and make them work.  - Removing HTML: Going with Truly Plain Text I hate it when people send me HTML e-mail. To make matters worse, when I uncheck Format --> HTML to convert to plain text, the conversion is incomplete. Images remain in place, certain colors stay where they are, and sometimes the cursor is difficult to see as a result.  - Setting up Entourage I am trying to setup up Entourage X on OSX and when we automatically configure it for an exchange account, we get an error saying no domain controller found. When I print my calendar from Entourage in the weekly view, the
appointments appear in casual order instead of beeing sorted by time!
Does anybody know if there's a way to correct this?

The only reliable way of printing the calendar is using List View after
you've set Week, Day, or Month.
