I'm having a terrible time having the automatically scheduler receive my emails...I've toyed with the schedule inside & out and for some reason I have to manually click the send/receive to have emails come through...

Anyone having this issue that can be of assistance?

What happens when the schedule actually runs? You should see it counting
down in the Progress window, then *something* should happen.

What kind of account is this? POP/IMAP/Exchange? IMAP accounts may need to
have folders selected. Exchange acounts don't use schedules.

Adam,

Thanks for your message - it's a POP account and when the send/receive takes place, it simply refreshes to say will send/receive in 1 minute. There is no loading bar or anything that suggests its actually checking for mail.

Strange isnt it...

Create a new Identity and test there. It could be corruption in your
database. Some preferences are actually stored in the database.

Let's first be clear about the terms User, Identity and Account.

An identity is a complete personality of Entourage, containing (preferences,
account settings.

A User is a term used by the Mac OS. The terms Identity and User are often
confused. Creating a new User in System Preferences is a good way to test in
a clean environment.

Entourage stores your data in an Identity, and the Mac OS creates Users.

Your identity is named "Main" by default. It is located in the Microsoft
User Data folder. Creating a new Identity is a good way to test your
database to see if corruption is the problem.

Each identity can have (almost) any number of accounts. Each account is
associated with a distinct email address than can be used to send and/or
receive mail, but all mail is stored in the same database, all calendar
events are common to all the accounts, all notes & contacts are shared.

You can have multiple accounts in Entourage. Examples: POP, IMAP, Hotmail,
Gmail, AOL, Exchange, news accounts.

I would delete the account and the schedule. Not just delete entries in
each, but the actual account and schedule. See if this helps.

Thanks so much Diane for your replies...

So - check this out, I am using a wireless aircard as an internet connection...which I now believe is the reason why I am having this issue.

I switched over to wireless and all my emails are sending & receiving perfectly...strange - I may call my cell carrier and find out if there is a way around this...

Ever heard of this?

It has not been reported, but this sounds like a reasonable explanation of
your problems.

I have a working theory that the problem is caused when connecting using a
wireless broadband connection.

When I was in my office yesterday, the send & receive schedule checked &
received mail just fine when I was connected either by ethernet or by wifi
(as it always had before), but when I connect by using a Novotel USB 727
modem to Verizon national wireless broadband, the problem persists.

Is it only a problem for Entourage on a Mac platform, or on PC's as well? Is
it just in Office 2004, or does it also occur in Entourage for Office 2008?
I'll post this on the forum and see if someone has a solution, or if
Microsoft could develop a patch...

Perhaps the national account uses a different port setting. You should be
able to call them and ask for the settings required. See this page for some
clues:

Thanks for the link. Verizon confirms all the port settings are correct, and
there's no problem with the way I'm connecting wirelessly.

Can anyone tell me what Entourage is doing when the 'Send & Receive All'
schedule runs? And is there anything in Entourage that can or needs to be set
differently when connecting wirelessly?

I'll also try taking this up with a Apple Genius next time I'm off the
road.....

Entourage doesn't distinguish between your different types of network
connections. It doesn't know wireless from wired. It only knows what the
Mac OS tells it is available.

If you open the Network Utility found in /Applications/Utilities and
view your Network Interfaces, does the USB device come across as
something like en0 or en1 or something similar?

Test in a new Identity
Test in a new User

Eliminating your current Identity and user folder might help in finding a
solution.

Yes. It shows Network Interface (en1)
