 - knowledge base . . . ways to make entourage actually work ? Hello once more. Is there any comprehensive source on how entourage works, what needs to be done and respected ? ? it's a little bit exhausting, there's so many things that don't seem to work correctly, rules are applied only sometimes, junk mail filtering only part time operational, mailing list rules incomprehensible and unexplained ? I'm not sure, and I am no such thing as a 'mac fan', but if I don't find a way to understand what needs to be done to get this to work steadily, I guess I'll just switch back to the mac apps, or look for something else.  - Spotlight privacy OS 10.4.6, Entourage 2004, v 11.2.3 (060209) How can I prevent Spotlight from searching my Entourage mail messages? Following the instructions in the Mac Help file didn't do it -- I dragged the Main Identities folder (where the database lives - right?) to the Privacy panel of Spotlight as directed but it did not prevent a search from including my Entourage mail messages.  - Problem with mail portion of Entourage I'm using a new MacBook Pro. In the mail portion of Entourage, I have multiple accounts set up. All are working fine and yet I continuously receive error messages (when I click on the little yellow triangle at the lower right) that say: "[IN-USE] account busy (locked by another POP3 process]" What's going on?  - Error Message. I normally use my Power book for Entourage at work. I have now changed location (on holiday from US to UK) I still have the same email address but I am now getting this error message !! Entourage cannot find the server. Verify the server information is entered correctly in the Account Settings, and that your DNS settings in the Network pane of System Preferences are correct. Could someone please help. Many thanks.  - Importing contacts I used to have a Windows 98 machine. I was using MS Outlook 98 as my PIM. When I switched to Mac and Entourage X , I made a back up of my Outlook contacts in CSV and burned it. Now I tried to import it to my Mac G3 with Entourage and everything seemed fine. But now when I click on Address Book within Entourage, the whole thing just freezes. I am forced quit all the time.  - Database not the same when copied over? This is an odd one for me, never seen it before: I just got off the road, a week's worth of Entourage 2004 work in my PowerBook Identity folder (there in the MUD). So I do what I normally do: firewire the PB to my G5 tower, and copy over the Identity folder. However, this time, when I open up the freshly copied ID folder (by actually double clicking on the Database file), it is missing the past week's Sent mail. It only shows the sent mail up to the time I left the office, one week ago. It's there in the PowerBook database, I can see it (and I sent hundreds during the past week), but when I copy over to the G5, and double click it, it's not showing up. Is there some other method of duplicating the MUD folder now with this latest 11.2.3 version? And a related question: how can I ascertain the exact location of an already opened Entourage Identity? The normal Command-clicking the window name (in the top header bar) doesn't show the file path. The reason I'm asking is because I wonder if in fact I've been working in some other hidden Identity, and in fact I'm copying over the incorrect Identity from the PowerBook. thanks.  - Entourage X I am admittedly a non-techie. I want my computer to send/receive e-mail messages, create documents like newsletters, and house my digital pictures. Beyond a novice understanding of how to make these programs work for me, I am ignorant as hell. I have a Mac mini, Mac OS X, Version 10.4.1 The Entouage program came with it. For the most part, I have been able to use Entourage to communicate. Frequently, I am notified of updates to existing programs. I have come to be leary of them as they confuse Entourage for a week or so. Yesterday, without warning and at a most unfelicitous time, my Entourage program went belly-up. A brief notice told me that there was a program failure and that I should report this failure to (the phantom) Entourage person. Of course, the failure wiped out ALL of my folders, made it impossible to send or receive any e-mails at all using Entourage; resultantly, no notification to Entourage. Question: How in hell can I correct this or get help to correct it? OR, should I just throw away the Mac mini and go back to my PC? (I really have enjoyed the Mac.  - Problems displaying AM/PM time Hi, I can=B4t make the time settings to display correctly in AM and PM time, that is on Calendar and on the received mail as well. I have changed the OS X control panel to use a 24 hour format but Entourage keeps showing everything in PM. If I try to change it on an appointment it displays the change in minutes but still not corresponding to a time change of let's say an hour... Any ideas?  - Syncing the replied/forwarded status of an Entourage message with Exchange Like all mail programs, Entourage shows small arrow icons in the Inbox message list to indicate that a message has been replied to or forwarded -- blue for replied, green for forwarded. The "InfoBar" at the top of the message will also read "You replied to this message on..." The Entourage reply/forward indicators do not sync with the server. If a user (such as my boss) uses multiple computers with Entourage, each Entourage client has its own set of reply/forward indicators, and tracks the status of messages independently. These reflect only the actions taken on a particular message from a particular computer. So if a user replies to a message from Entourage using her Mac at home, her office Mac will not show the "replied" icon. This is different from the way the PC version of Outlook interacts with the Central Exchange server. In Outlook, the replied/forwarded icons appear on the same messages in both the Outlook client and when using Outlook Web Access. And if a user has multiple computers running Outlook, the replied/forwarded indicators appear correctly on all clients. Obviously, the Outlook behavior is much more desirable. Does anyone know of a way to get Entourage to mimic this behavior, and sync the replied/forwarded status with the Exchange server, instead of tracking this status locally??  - Calendar and appointment time When I add a new calendar item, the time that shows up on the calendar does not correspond with the time I save in the appointment window. I opened the general preference window and ensured that the correct time zone (the zone I am in) was selected, yet the problem persists. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.  - Exchange Mail going to Inbox in Folders On My Computer I have noticed several people having problems with this for the past two years. I have Entourage 2004 with an Exchange account. No POP accounts are set up at all. When I initially set up this account (as an upgrade from Entourage X) I started having this problem. I deleted the identity and created a brand new one. This seemed to work...for about a month. Now all of a sudden all new emails are going into the Inbox in Folders On My Computer again. This is really frustrating, as I can't go deleting and creating new identities every month. I am also surprised that this problem has been raised since 2004 and it seems that Microsoft has not done a thing to fix it. Has ANYONE found a solution yet?  - Entourage to Outlook via Exchange 2000 issue Hi all. I have an ongoing issue with Entourage sending emails to PC's using Outlook and other Entourage users via Exchange 2000. PC users cannot open the email, Entourage users receive the email but cannot read the body or only receive part of the body. The workaround has been to create a POP3 account in Entourage that sends email to our Proxy Server which passes the email back to Exchange. Mac user have to remember to use this account to send emails. This works but people do forget. I would like to resolve this issue as a number of Mac users are not taking advantage of other Exchange facilities and are using the local account on their Mac's rather than use their Exchange account. Emails sent from Outlook to the Entourage users read OK. All other features of Entourage and Exchange conectivity seems to be functioning OK. Entourage v.11.2.3 running on both 10.3.9 and 10.4.6.  - Mail and categories Repost! Hi, None of my incoming mail on my POP accounts are being associated with the categories from my Address Book. On the other hand, incoming mail IS being associated on my IMAP (.Mac) account. Would doing a "rebuild mailbox" have anything to do with this? I did notice that after I did the "rebuild", the window titles (i.e., Project Center, Mail, etc.) began to include "?Main Identity" when that WASN'T there before. Ideas?  - HTML messages take long to load I noticed some postings describing problems with HTML messages not displaying properly. My issue is the speed; why does it sometimes take rather long for them to display? Is there any way around this?  - Task syncing Is anyone else having issues syncing Entourage tasks with a Palm? I have a Treo 650 with recurring events on it, but when I sync it with Entourage 2004, Entourage strips the recurrance and makes it a one time event. Any help would be appreciated! But they are listed in completely random order, not related by date, event name, or anything else.  - project events In outlook, calendar, I could use FIND and a keyword to get a list of all events that used that keyword -- the date, time and content. I used it for billing for a project and getting a list of people who were involved in a project so I could get back to them with a new development.  - 2001 upgrade OK, here's why I never upgraded my Entourage. I tried the test-drive of 2004, and when I imported my address book, it lost all the categories and links between people - thousands of data that I use daily. Any way to import this info from 2001?  - Pie in the sky The Pie in the Sky function for me would be this - perhaps it already exists? - I send out dozens of emails every day. Sometimes I forget who I sent to and only weeks later recall, "I never heard back from so-and-so.." Would it be possible to write a script that would on every message I receive check to see if there is a message to that person in my sent items folder. If there is such a message in the sent items folder, to move it to a different folder (eg, "sent and replied") so that I would know that any message in my sent folder has not yet received a reply. (I created an anti-spam rule: if sender is not in address book then delete - problem is if the sender is replying to a message from me - so I want an outgoing rule that will add him to my address book.  - Attachment(s) Size Entourage 2004 v11.2.3/ Ibook G4 OS 10.4.6 Hi, I'm not sure how large a file or files I can send as attachments. Also I don't know how to figure how large an email/attachments the recipient can receive. Right now I have 24 jpeg pictures I want to send to someone. A folder containing all of them is 28.1 mb. I sent a 7 mb email to myself with some pictures and it worked fine. Should I send someone a 28 mb email? I don't know what programs or equipment they're working on and how what I send is received Finally, does having the pictures included in the body of the email make the email a larger size?  - Emptying Deleted Items Folder for Hotmail account I have Entourage 2004. I am unable to empty the Deleted items folder for my Hotmail account in Entourage. I have tried the 2 suggestions in the "Help" file -- 1) holding down control and clicking on the Deleted Items folder or 2) Run Schedule: Empty deleted items folder -- both for option #1 there is no text option to empty the deleted items folder, and for option #2 nothing happens.  - how do mailing list rules work? Hello all One thing I don't really understand (and that doesn't seem to be explained anywhere) is how the mailing list rules work. I have my junk mail filter set to exclusive, and there are mails who's sender I don't want in my address book, but I still want to get their mail into my inbox. So I click 'this is not junk mail', and then use the 'create a new mailing list rule' option. Doing so produces an "edit mailing list rule' panel, in which in many cases the 'name' field is either 'untitled' or has indeed something to do with the sender, but the 'list address' is either 'Undisclosed-Recipient:;' or just ':;' or my own e-mail address; that beeing the case although the sender is obvious and correctly displayed in the mail view. In entourage, normally the name of a rule is relevant only for one's own personal overview, it doesn't have a technical function. But in this case, all that seems related to the task (namely to allow mails from this sender in) is in this irrelevant name field, while what I would believe important, namely the 'list address' field, contains only insignificant information (like my own address). In the 'advanced' part of the panel, there's more options, but they all presuppose an understanding of what a 'list address' might be, and I cannot think of anything but this beeing the address allowed in. But why, then, is it put in in some cases and not in others? I ask all that because I had fatal problems with rules before that made both the rules and the junk mail filtering unoperational, and I had to reinstall and manually configure it all from the scratch, and I don't want to have to do that once more. thanks a lot N.  - Help with Palm + Entourage Contact Photos Hi all! I have a simple Palm PDA on which I'd like to display my contact photos. I have followed all instructions to use Palm with Entourage, but my photos are not syncing! In fact, there is no picture option on my handheld at all. Does anyone have any experience with this?  - Categories in address book are not showing up in Entourage contacts Mac Mini Office 2004 Mac OSX Tiger My Mac Address Book has OVER 500 entries and all are categorized into one or two categories (I have set up a total of 13 categories). When I set up preferences in Entourage, I chose Turned on "Synchronize contacts with Address Book and .mac" and chose the option "Merge" All address book information is showing up in Entourage contacts, EXCEPT Categories ....all Entourage contacts show up as having no contacts.  - Deleted contact in Address Book not deleting from Entourage I'm running Entourage 2004 v 11.2.3 on OS X 10.4.6 I have sync services turned on in Entourage, and find that contact changes I make in Entourage appear in Address Book quite quickly. However, I'm not seeing changes go the other way. I have deleted some contacts in Address Book, and they are still in Entourage. Any idea why? Or what I need to do to get the changes to sync? Related to all this is my struggles to find a dependable solution for maintaining consistent address books and calendars across 2 (or more) Macs here in the house and syncing with 2 older Palm IIIxe's we have. dotMac wouldn't always work. I was seeing calendars in iCal disappear on Mac B, and contacts weren't staying synced. I've experimented with trying a shared project with Entourage, but that wasn't very satisfactory. Maybe I need to find some good instructions on wiping the slate clean in Entourage (and/or iCal and Address Book) and sync services and starting over (with a good saved copy of my calendar and contacts to start from).  - Disabling the Progress Pop-Up Anybody know how to make it so that the Progess Pop-Up that appears when entourage is checking mail does not pop-up every time.  - Rule to move old mailing list messages My wife in on the New York Times daily mailing list. She frequently falls behind in reading the dailies. I blithely suggested, "Well, it shouldn't be any problem for me to create an Entourage rule that will leave the most recent Times in your inbox and move all the older ones to a separate 'Old NYT' folder in your folder list." I was able to write the rule, and can execute it manually by selecting all messages in the inbox and then selecting Apply Rule from the Entourage Message menu. However, I was hoping to have the rule run automatically - once per day, for example, or maybe upon arrival of the daily mailing list message from the Times. But I can't seem to do this from the rules dialog box. Entourage Schedules don't directly run rules, either. But both rules and schedules can execute Applescripts, and perhaps that's the key. The Entourage Applescript library does show a rules property for the mailing list object, with the following notation: " If true, apply rules to messages from the mailing list."  - Changing the Subject Line I recently moved from PC to Mac and one of the things I loved about Outlook on the PC was that you could change the subject line of received emails to something meaningful (such as order date and invoice number) that way I could always find what I was looking for quickly.  - Can't forward attachments from a specific user I have Entourage connected to our company exchange server. I have received an email from a specific person outside my company and I try to forward his email which has PDF attachments. When I forward, the attachment disappear. The odd thing is that this only happens for this particular message. I tried attachments from users inside and outside my company and those are fine. It's only this specific message. Any ideas?  - Entourage X Notifications Muted For some reason, all the notification sounds in Entourage X have suddenly become muted, only for this application. All other apps and system sounds are functioning perfectly (Mac OS X 10.4.6). The notification preferences have not changed -- they are not set to mute. The sounds do not even preview when selected. An old posting* in this group identified the same problem, and a fix by confirming that the system sound output setting is set to internal rather than USB speakers. My problem, however, is I have no USB speakers and no other speakers appear in the output list other than the internal. So this fix does not apply.  - Entourage IMAP Problem I have a .Mac account with 2 e-mail alias addresses that I use for mailing lists, online shopping and such. Well about a month ago Entourage has started putting mail to ONE of the alias addresses into my normal Inbox. For the past two years Entourage has ALWAYS kept e-mails to both addresses in the .Mac server INBOX. I have checked the account settings and nothing has changed in Entourage. I have tried deleting the .Mac account from Entourage and creating a new one, but that doesn't help. Any ideas? In Entourage Vx if I set my attachments window (box) open, every new
email I bring up has an open attachments window. In Entourage 2004,
each new window comes up with the attachment window closed and I have
to click the triangle to open it. I can find no preference that will
allow the window to be open at all times. Is there a way to do this?
Script, perhaps?

Not the only one it's happening to, but maybe the only one who sees it as a
problem!

I for one, don't want the attachments pane taking up space if it is not
being used. Files can still be dragged onto that 9or any) part of the
message window to attach them, so why would I need the empty pane to be
open?
