E-mail message flies to dock

This has now happened to two of my colleagues, one of whom stopped using
Entourage for this reason.

They would view their message headings without the Preview pane.
Occasionally when they click on a message to view it, it opens but then
immediately disappears, leaving an icon for the message file in the dock.
Clicking on the icon in the dock then lets them view the message.

Curious what's going on.

In System Preferences/Appearance, they must have

? Minimize when double clicking a window title bar

checked (that's the default). And they must be "quick clickers". I have a
friend who is incapable of single-clicking - he double-clicks everything.
Your friends probably click extra. If they're still clicking when Entourage
opens the new window for the message (some people get very impatient and
double-click a second time) even if the window isn't yet visible (quite
possible especially with complex HTML messages which have to to be fetched,
but also possible with any IMAP, Hotmail and Exchange messages which have to
be downloaded, ), the system option will minimize the window to the Dock.

Since people can't usually learn new habits, nor to be patient, I' recommend
that they uncheck that Minimize option in Appearances system preferences.

WOW ... Am I glad I saw this thread. I did not look at the dock. I had
couple of my mails disappear on me. I had to ask the sender to send it
again.

I follow the I reasoning behind why it goes to the dock. But why does the
mail disappear from the list? Even if we double click multiple times, it
should not disappear. I could not find it anywhere including deleted items
folder.

NO. Today while clearing all my mails I found this missing mail in
the junk-mail folder. Not sure how it got there. May be some key I
accidently pressed sent it to junk mail folder. Very touchy.

In Entourage 2004, junk mail (as determined by the Junk Mail Filter or by
you clicking the Junk button) automatically goes to the Junk E-mail folder
(local or IMAP as appropriate). That's new in 2004.
