I am using Entourage 2004 with Exchange Server 2003. Everytime somebody
send me a mail and is requesting a read receipt Entourage is sending a
read receipt without asking.

Is there a chance to turn this off? I already connected to my account
with Outlook an a PC and turned it off, but Entourage ignores that and
keeps sending a read receipt.

Any suggestions?

Oliver

This is one thing I haven't been able to accomplish - all I know is that it
is happening at the server, it's not Entourage doing it.

I would very much like to disable this 'feature'.

I have the opposite problem. Perhaps someone has an answer.
I've only worked with Entourage for acouple of days.

How do I get a mail receipt? It's in Outlook under Options as Delivery
Notification.
I can't find it in Entourage. It must be there somewhere even Groupwise
(ugh) had that.

I occasionally need confirmation that my email is getting to a client
or co-worker.

Thanks

Anyone?

Entourage doesn't have that feature built-in, but you can manually add the
Return Receipt header to request one. Instructions for doing so are here:

Entourage doesn't really have an easy or convenient of doing this. Have a
look at the following article to see how it can be done:

Thank you for the info but what are you waiting for?
Add this feature. How hard can it be? It seems like a real oversight.
It's an option after all. No one would have to use it. MS managed it in
Outlook.

You seem to be confused here... MVPs do not work for MS. None of us can
add any feature. We are just regular users like yourself:
http://mvp.support.microsoft.com

If you want the feature, use the Send Feedback command in Entourage
(Help menu) to let MS know.

You? Which "you" are you speaking to here, Ivogt? Nobody who has answered
you works for Microsoft.

The article that Mickey and Michel sent you to unfortunately does not
explain why it's not in Entourage.

The reason why is that it's an almost useless feature which gives people
false assurances, always a bad thing:

1) It doesn't work when the receiving email client does not have an
automatic service that sends a reply. (Not only Entourage - there are many,
many other other email clients which don't reply.) Therefore, if you don't
get a reply you may incorrectly think it wasn't received,

2) It doesn't tell you that the recipient read the message anyway, only that
his email client _received_ it. Therefore when you get the reply you may
incorrectly believe that he read it when he hasn't.

So - bad both ways round. It's a really feeble protocol, and good that
Entourage does not (pretend to) implement it. The fact that Outlook
implements it is an indication that the Outlook developers, unlike the
Entourage developers, seem to think that everybody else in the world uses
Outlook, which they don't. The Entourage developers, being on a "minority"
platform, know better, and are smarter in not implementing it. To be a bit
fairer, the Outlook approach probably reflects the fact that, originally,
back in Office 95 for PCs, Outlook was an extension of an earlier client
that worked only as intranet - something you used only with other people on
your own Exchange server. Outlook started life doing the same thing - there
used to be two modes - one for "Workgroups" on an Exchange server, and
another for "Internet".

There were some poor decisions made when Outlook was extended to the
Internet, that shouldn't be there. This is one of them - it's inaccurate and
unreliable, since it assumes that everyone can do it, which they can't.
You're much better off just not using it, since it cannot be relied upon.

And that's why Entourage does not implement it.

@Barry

I am not sure, if it is happening only at the exchange server! When I
use Outlook on a PC to connect to my mailbox I am able to deactivate
the read receipt in Outlook. As long as I read my mails with Outlook
everything works fine.

But as soon as I start reading my mails with Entourage, Entourage
starts sending read receipts again :-(
