 - What are the Exchange requirements? I'm having difficulty getting Entourage 2004 to hook up to my company's Exchange server.  - Keyboard navigation while making new appointment in Calendar Here's what I think is a bug I thought would go away in Entourage 2004 (upgraded from Entourage v.X) but it's still there. Create a new appointment in the Calendar, enter the Subject and Location, then enter the Start time and click in the Duration box with the mouse to enter the length of time. Then press the Tab key to go to the time measurement box to the right of the Duration box. You can't! The tab key goes directly to the length of time box for the Reminder. When my hand is already on the keyboard, the last thing I want to do is be forced to use the mouse, particularly when the next entry also requires keyboard input. The same mistake continues after entering the length of advance notification for the Reminder. Pressing tab takes you to the comments filed at the bottom, completely skipping both the time measurement box for the Reminder and the Travel time box.  - Entourage 2004 Groups missing in OWA? Hi All, We are using Entourage 2004 with Exchange 2000. One of our users discovered that the groups he made in Entourage 2004 don't appear in Outook Web Access. I took a looke at my own account verified that groups in the Entourage contacts are not showing up in OWA or Outlook 2003.  - entourage freeze I've entourage 2004 with the latest office sp on Mac osx 10.3.6 I connect to an exchange server for the mail, calendar and address book Entourage works fine on powerMac G5 with 2Gb but on the imac G5 with 512 Mb he freeze quite often for 2 to 20 seconds... 512 Mb isn't enough?  - Can I use Entourage to select from a library of pre-made responses? Does anyone know how I can accomplish this? I would like to be able to pull up a notepad of sorts with a list of pre-made responses, searchable by keyword and click on them or enter a keyboard shortcut to paste them into the email I am responding to.  - Palm synchronization problem (national characters) Hello to all. I'm using Tungsten T3 with Mac OS X 10.3. The problem I have is about Palm <-> Entourage synchronization. I've installed the correct conduit, but when the synchronization is performed all the national characters are lost. I.e. if I type something in Polish into Entourage (creating a task or a note), each of national characters I type is converted to '?' during synchronization. It's strange. When I sync to Palm Desktop for Mac, the national characters are retained (no matter if I enter them on Palm or in Palm Desktop). Any help will be appreciated. Piotr Tag: Does Size Really Matter?  - Re: Considering a new iMac OE kind of combined with Outlook 2001 for Mac to become Entourage. That's what Microsoft offers now for either POP, IMAP, or Exchange mail accounts. That said, you can also use the built-in Mail, iCal, and Address Book apps as well, including Exchange accounts (except for scheduling with iCal, I don't know of a way to do that.) In future, let's keep the discussion on the newsgroup so everyone can follow.  - embedded links messed up re: Entourage 04 Following an order from an online merchant, I received a confirmation email with my order information, including a link to check its status. The email does not contain HTML, but it does have several links, one being the link to the order status page in the format http:// i.e., it's not enclosed in angle brackets. I cannot click on the link--my browser isn't launched if I do. If I cut and paste the link into the browser, the page is invalid (according to the remote server, not Safari). However, if I View > Source, the link changes slightly. If I preview the message or open it in a separate window, the link ends as follows: /stat?[site name]????????? where [site name] is the store name. The ending set of question marks are (in the email) a series of Asian characters (Chinese or Japanese, I don't know. I have my newsreader set to Western encoding, so they couldn't be pasted in). However, if I View > Source, it changes to this: /stat?[site name]+[order number]+4480ce02eaab6cfdc7bd [order number] is, of course, my order number. This link works just fine.  - Hotsinc 'File is locked' Error Since I created 'sub-identities' in entourage (ie I don't use the main identity only since my children also use entourage for email), Whenever I hotsync I get an error 'File is locked'. This prevents my palm to sync with Entourage. I found a painful workaround, which is to go in the 'office 2004 identities' folder and change the ownership & permissions to 'read and write' from 'read only' for group (owner remains set to read & write) for all identities but I have to do that everytime I sync.  - Addresses in Groups I have been using Outlook for a long time and like the ability to compress my contact catagories into groups (i.e. if I have 5 Contact Catagories and 10 contacts in each, I can set it so that I only see the Catagory Group name w/a + sign.  - a bug in Entourage ? Hello Hoping a MVP will see this and pass on to MS I found my Entourage was CRASHING when I was getting e-mail from one account. Rebuilding and clearing permissions didn't dop anything -- so I logged onto the mail server from a web browser ... and noticed that there was one e-mail sitting there that looked BLANK -- no subject or sender info. Once deleted thru the web browser -- all is well again. No more Entourage crashes. Using Entourage 10.1.1.  - Re-receiving Emails - IT WON'T STOP!! Hi! I opened Entourage today and something weird happened. It is getting all of the messages left on the server. I know there is an option which lets you do this, but the thing is I didn't ask entourage to do this and now I have hundreds of emails being downloaded into entourage and I can't make it stop!  - Office Apps Stuck During Start-up I recently upgraded to Office 2004 on my iMac and iBook. No problems at all on the iBook, but the iMac is another story. When I try to start any of the Office applications the app's splash box appears on the screen as normal. It displays my license name, Product ID and below that "Configuring Office Components..." and never gets any further than that.  - Install Entourage conduit - MS Component Plugin error I have Mac OS x 10.3.7, MS Office 2004 (academic), and a new palm zire 72. I have gathered all of my addresses in the entourage address book, and want to sync with the zire 72. I downloaded the entourage conduit. When I tried to install it, it failed with the message that I needed the Microsoft Component Plugin . I can't find it. The suggested entry for conduits on the office install cd does not appear to exist. Anybody know how I can get the conduit installed? Or is this some restriction on the academic version of office?  - New Entourage 2004 leaves junk mail as read In the older vs. of Entourage, all the emails that I specified, or were determined by the filter, as "junk mail" went to the junk mail folder and were marked as "read".  - Entourage Calendar Long time user of long gone Expresso (Berkeley Systems) wants to know why calendar designers have apparently decided that clients will never want to mimic the physical use of a pen to draw a line across several dates and mark it "Beach" or "NYC conference" or "Inlaws here"?  - Temporary Freezing Entourage I have the G4 powerbook 1.5ghz and I even shelled out for the faster hard drive. Yet, I find entourage freezing on me for 30-60 seconds at a time. I don't jump the gun and reset or force quit, but wait and it comes back to working in that time frame. It usually happens when I switch from email to calendar or notes (basically when I switch modes within entourage). What is causing this? Are there any fixes?  - Tungsten T5, Macintosh Entourage, Sync birthdays. How's that for a subject that is search friendly. Ok, just upgraded from Palm 505 to Tungsten T5 and was overjoyed to see a birthday field in the address book that added an event to the calendar. Until I synced it with my Entourage and neither the birthday in the contact, not the event in the calendar came over. Is this something wrong with my setup, or with the sync implementation? I routinely refer back to emails two and three months ago. I¹ve read some of the options suggested. One was to create a custom view of messages in a certain period, categorize them as ³archive² and export all in the archive category. That seemed swell until I tried it. There are 83000 emails that are more than 270 days old. Also, I really don¹t like losing the folder and category information. Along the way yesterday I managed to foul up my database and had to restore it from Retrospect. Then Entourage decided it needed to be rebuilt, which took about an hour. I lost all of the newsgroup messages I had accumulated and can¹t find anything now on the various macro solutions others suggested. Help, please? It might also help me if I knew how easy it is to access messages in archives. I am guessing I have to import the entire archive to be able to locate one message?  - Desperately seeking Entourage to Exchange to Blackberry Synchronization Just got a brand new sparkling iMac G5. I love everything about it. Office 2004 makes it simple to co-habitate with my windows lap top and other pc users. The Entourage interface is on par or better than Outlook 2003 in most cases. The only stinkin problem I have with the Mac/Office/Entourage is that when I file or delete messages from within my configured Exchange 2003 account via Entourage, my exchange server gets updated (I.e. My Windows Outlook 2003 machines see the change), but my Blackberry does not. I just don't get why the exchange server is not communicating the file or deletion of the message to the Blackberry Enterprise server when the file or delete is done with Entourage. Everything works fine when I file or delete a message with Outlook 2003. What is Entourage doing differently? You would think that as long as the Exchange Server is being updated, the change would trickle to the Blackberry. Please, please, please, any help is appreciated. Tag: Does Size Really Matter?  - entourage continually opens 121 mail windows I have a user with 1.25 GHz emac system 10.3 using office 2004. when starting entourage it immediately opens 121 mail windows. have tried closing 120 windows but next start time entourage opens 121 windows again.  - IMAP address change forces re-download of everything Hi all, After upgrading to Office 2004 an annoying bug came up that wasn't there in Office X: if you change the IMAP address in the account settings (either manually or via an Applescript), all messages and folders are deleted from the cache, and a new set is being downloaded. I access my IMAP mail with a Powerbook from two locations: inside the office (10.0.0.x IP) and on the road (outside IP). I had a little Applescript that changes the IP in the account settings depending on my location. Alas, that's become useless, this re-download of everything is much too timeconsuming.  - How to open another user's calendar? Hi! How can I open another usere's calendar in Entourage? I configured one client with Entourage for a user that has complete mailbox delegation of another user's mailbox. I added the mailbox which is now visible and the user can also send mail on behalf of the other. But there is still only one calendar which has now both users calendar entries (colour coded). I suppose there is a possibility to filter the view... But my real question is how can I simply open the calendar of another user (provided I have the right).  - Entourage X crashes upon LDAP query I am a technician/computer support specialist for a large school district with several hundred FP iMacs & eMacs with basically this configuration: OS X 10.2.8 Microsoft Office X (Updates thru 10.1.6) Entourage X 10.1.4 After much research and hassle I finally got the correct Entourage X fields set up to talk to our LDAP server...Imap was already working fine with the exchange server, but we desire for our clients to be able to use the Global Address List. Upon going to Tools/Directory Services and typing in a partial name to query our Global Address List, clicking Find : the query returns the appropriate list of users on the server to the window, then within 5 seconds the application Entourage quits with a "Application quit unexpectedly" window. Apple mail app and Address book app behave themselves. Only Entourage X crashes, and predictably at the same point every time. A trial version of Office 2004 does NOT fail at the same point.  - Intermittent Vanishing Messages We are having a problem with messages that occasionally just go off into cyberspace, and never get received by the sender, but we don't get a message saying that they couldn't be delivered.  - Greek Language support on Mac My lil sister wants to switch to Mac after years and years of PC use. I am a little hesitant about this, but both her best friend and her boyfriend have a powerbook and she has fallen in love with that notebook, so what i have to say will have little effect on her untimate decision. so i've spent the past couple days feverishly reading up on the life of a mac user in a PC world. (particularly is it possible for a mac to join a Microsoft Advance Server Domain -- but thats a different post entirely) so far all the basics are covered. except for multi-language support -- i cannot find much information in this respect. unfortunately, she needs to create and edit documents in the Greek language. Further more, some sort of greek spell check option would be nice. on our windows PCs we were able to copy the "Proof" folder of one PC that had greek proofing tools onto the other PCs and all the mechines attained Greek proofing ability. i wonder if it will be that easy w\ her Mac. also wonder if i can copy the contents of my XP based proof folder into a similar folder on her mac and attain the same results. also, does Entouage have an option to "Use Word as my e-mail editor" the way we can in Outlook XP? thanks in advance for taking the time to reply.  - Entourage X: An unknown error has occured (5530) The SMTP server for "Seagull Exchange account" does not recognize any of the authentication methods supported by Entourage. To send mail, try disabling SMTP authentication in the account settings or talk to your administrator. Entourage version 10.1.6 OSX 10.3.6 IMAP works fine for receiving mail but SMTP with: SMTP requires secure connection (SSL) checked and SMTP server requires authentication checked unchecking the authentication option will not work because the exchange admin requires authentication and i tried it. It did work when the exchange admin took off the requirement but only on the network inside the firewall. I have successfully got it working with the same setting on Apple mail for both secure IMAP and secure SMTP. Any suggesstions or it is a bug with Entourage? would be appreciated.  - Lost links between contacts and email in entourage 2004 Over the weekend I got a new Mac having Office 2004, the old Mac used Office X. I ported by copying my entire home directory from the old computer to the new, plus as much of the stuff from the top level directory as I could think of (like /Library/Preferences and so on). Now that I'm back to using Entourage on a daily basis, I'm starting to see the differences. Some I don't like but can live with (like the minimum size of a window is larger that it was, so I can't have my layout like it was). Some I might like (like projects). But here's one that I don't like A LOT! All the links between contacts and emails are gone. I mean that in the Address Book, when there is a link icon next to a contact name, I could open the link menu and get to a list of every email that was associated with that contact. Now, those links are gone. The emails are still there, in the Mail window in whatever subfolder I put them in. But, the links are missing. New links are created as new mail arrives or as I create new mail. The lost links are those associated with everything before I switched to 2004. When people asked me why I use Entourage rather than Apple's suite, I would say, "because I can find all email that is associated with a contact with a single click on the link icon". Their jaws would drop and they say "cool". Now, that feature is dead for all my past mail.  - Changing Pane Focus within Entourage with AppleScript I am trying to do some applescripting to get a list of items from an Entourage Custom View. I have (with A LOT of help from this news group) gotten to a point where I can open the pre-defined custom view, make menu selections (look here to see how: http://groups-beta.google.com/group/microsoft.public.mac.office.entourage/browse_thread/thread/171b2582db5b24c3/deb9c10ca1fc4c12 ) and even select all items in the view and perform the intended action on those items. The only problem that I'm having is that when the Custom View initially displays, the search box has the focus, not the list of items; so I cannot select the items from the list that I need. So now the question: How do I change the focus of the new window from the search box to the custom view results pane? I have a user with an obscene exchange mailbox. Their mailbox is
approaching 2Gig. I have not found any information where Entourage
states any size limits. The program crashes constantly. We've run the
db utility on the program and it fixes some issues, but when Entourage
starts to pull the exchange server messages back in it slows the
program down.

Any thoughts?

You don't state which version of Entourage. Check this page for the size
limits for the different version of Entourage.

After an advanced rebuild, Entourage has to retrieve the info from the
server and with the large database this can take a long time, but once the
process is complete, Entourage should speed up.

Why not archive some of the data and delete from the server?
