Hello... hope you can help or point to the possible causes.

In this case were using Exchange 2003 SP1 and the clients are Entourage 2004
11.2.3...

Recently, we've noticed that some Entourage clients who have breached their
mailbox limits are now unable to delete mails. Or rather, Entourage shows
that their mail has been deleted, but the actual deletion on the server
either isn't happening or if it is, the space isn't being purged. This has
led to some very angry users with "full" mailboxes, even though they insist
that they've deleted tens of megabytes of emails/attachments.

Rebuilding mailboxes from scratch doesn't seem to make any difference, so is
this an Exchange issue, spawned by Entourage?

TIA, Paul

Entourage does not maintain a live connection to an Exchange server...it
syncs every few minutes. If you need to free up space immediately, delete a
message (both from the original folder and the Deleted Items folder), then
Control-Click the folder and choose "Synchronize Now." (Or you can hit the
Send & Receive button on the toolbar.)

If users are still having problems with quota, Control-Click the server name
in your folder list and choose "Folder Properties." Go to the Storage tab
and see what folders are taking up excessive space.

Adam, thanks...

Yes, we're familiar with methods of forcing synchronisation; but this is a
failure that seems to have occurred after these actions...

User continually had to "remove attachments" (whilst retaining the message
that the attachment is connected to) to manage her mailbox limit.
Once the mailbox quota was breached, we investigated and found that none of
the attachments (or plain ol' deletia) had been purged at the Exchange end.

Baffling...

Regards, Paul.

That feature doesn't work with online accounts (Hotmail, IMAP, Exchange);
only with the local copies cached in the Entourage database.
