permanently deletes messages instead of placing them in the "deleted items folder". Is this a feature that can be turned on and off?

Doug confirmed that it is apparently not possible. You can, however, move
the messages to your Deleted Items folder. This is what I do.

Deleting directly from the Junk E-mail folder is actually a new feature
in Entourage 2008. It's a very welcome change for me.

Eh, I use the Junk E-mail folder as a temporary place to hold suspected junk
until I can scan through it for false positives. Once I'm satisfied a
message is actually junk, I move it to Deleted items where it is
periodically deleted. (An AppleScript purges messages in the Deleted Items
folder more quickly if they are marked as Junk.)

Thanks for all the responses. I appreciate the work around, and you are right, I really have come to appreciate this feature in just two days.

The problem with this "new feature" is that it is awkward to use. Each time you want to delete a message from the Junk folder you have to click on the trash icon and then click again to verify the delete. Twice as many "clicks" can be significant if you are selecting many messages to be deleted. In the previous version it took only one click to get the message into the Deleted folder and then later these messages could be deleted in groups without a verification for every delete. Sometimes I delete several hundred messages at once.

No, this automatically deletes them from either your server/Entourage for your security. If they do contain viruses, you're being protected by getting rid of the messages in an orderly manner.
