It could be the fault of his mail client that incorrectly encodes or formats
the HTML. It could have been some corruption to the data in transit. This
does happen on occasions, but fortunately it is very rare.

Because the crash is caused when Entourage attempts to render the HTML or
Image. Turning the preview pane off prevents this rendering and allows the
message to be selected.
