Yes, but that kind of thing has never been reliable, and recipients have
full ability to opt out of it if they wish, in which case you'll get no
acknowledgement what-so-ever:

And the E-mail application that your recipient is using must support
this feature. Entourage, for example, will ignore these requests unless
you create a rule with an AppleScript to look for the specific headers
and notify you.

Yep - overall, it's just not worth the trouble, in my opinion.

Of course, I've sen some alternatives that are even worse. For instance,
a coworker at work once told me he puts his email address in the CC
field of every single email he sends, just so he can verify that the
email was processed and delivered by the mail server.
