 - Confused by two Entourage groups Hi there, It appears like there are TWO newsgroups dedicated to Entourage: microsoft.public.mac.office.entourage and microsoft.public.office.mac.entourage And they both appear to be active!  - Archiving Instuctions for archiving data are vague. You have the option to choose different components (Mail, Taks, Calendar, etc) but no option to chose dates? (Older than one year, etc).  - Cannot Send Cuz of "Invalid Addresses" Ever since moving to MS Office 2004, I keep getting an error message saying that I cannot sending because of invalid addresses. pls knows that they all worked perfectly in MS Office OS X...  - Url displays I'm new to Macs but have not been able to find any reference to this problem using web searches..... I use Entourage 2004 and when I get an email with a URL, it seems Entourage is adding a clickable link, enclosed in <> ...... Example http://www.sunbelt-software.com/product.cfm?page=whitepapers&id=400 <http://www.sunbelt-software.com/product.cfm?page=whitepapers&id=400> But is messing up the URL by actually adding AMP; following the ampersand The sender did not include the < .... > as seen above ....  - Switched from Entourage x to 2004 We recently switched over from x to 2004 and are having problems importing our contacts. When we did the switch only some of the contacts show up in 2004. We tried following the import steps to import the old contacts but it doesn't give us the option to choose the database file in the office x identities folder. Maybe I am looking for the wring file?  - Restoring entourage e mails I use os x (panther) with microsoft office x ( entourage version 10.1.1) I had to reinstall entourage. I used the import option and located the files to import. It imported everything (contcts,notes, tasks, calender) but no emails. It did not import my account infomation. which I have re entered. I can see by the size of my old database files and the size of my new database files that not all the infomation is transfered. I have tried different importing into a different identity.  - Overwieght Database My Entourage database file weighs in at 1.8Gig. I have a notion that this must be slowing it down. A couple of questions then please: a) Is there a maximum size after which performance is affected? b) What's the best way to archive off emails?  - Folder Location for Entourage Contacts I found a folder on my OSX desktop called "Entourage Contacts" and probably need to move it back to the correct location but I am not sure where it should go. The folder contains: Backup Vcards from Ent-X Inbox.mbox Contacts Export.txt My guess is it should be in User/Documents/Microsoft User Data Where should I move the Ent 2004 X folder called Entourage Contacts?  - Entering untimed events into Entourage I use a Palm Pilot and am able to enter untimed events which show up on my entourage calendar. I want to be able to do the same thing directly on the calendar within Entourage, but can't seem to do so. Every time it requires you to create a specific event.  - Entourage 2004 hot sync conduit problem all of the sudden my hot sync between entoruage 2004 and treo 600 will not work. Tried to re-install handheld sync installer 1.0.1 and it will nto work. The real odd ball thing is that when I go in to the hot sync conduit settings for Entourage it will not open up to adjust the hot sync settings...nothing happens when I double click! All the while it says I am hot syncing but no info exchanges from the handheld to entourage. Tried to trash conduits and reinstall - with the same result...any help would be appreciated.  - Entourage self destructs Beginning about 4 weeks ago, after I installed the last security update to Entourage, it has been losing data. At first, there appeared to be a corrupt email in the database. Entourage would freeze if I tried to read that one email but otherwise worked fine. I called MS and they took me through a number of steps, including option starting entourage and going through its various procedures. They concluded that there was a problem with my iMac G5. I called apple and went through a process with them, including running scandisk from the CD and found nothing. Two weeks later, Entourage froze completely. I called MS, and they had me to a complete reinstall of MS office 2004. My data were gone, but with entouraid I was able to recover most of it. Today, I innocently started entourage, and it opened with a new file as if it were being run for the first time. Each time this happens I lose two weeks work. I tried to run my back up but that would not run. I have an archive from last week, so it is not fatal, but I am at my wits end. Should I just bag entourage?  - Recurring Calendar Events I'm trying to establish a two-week event as a recurring event that takes place every four weeks. For some reason, Entourage is double scheduling this event occasionally. The event is supposed to run 14 days from Friday through Friday, then repeat after a break of 14 days. In addition to scheduling that, Entourage is scheduling two-week events starting on seemingly random days. I thought it had to do with a conflict with holidays, as all incorrectly scheduled events followed holidays, but I've taken holidays off the calendar and it's still happening.  - getting web pages into projects Entourage 2004 11.1, OS 10.3.8 Any suggestions for quick and efficient ways to associate a URL with a project? So far the best I've come up with is copy it into a Note, but that's a tad annoying because I still have to open the Note to access the link again. I also tried copying into a Clipping, but couldn't figure out how to open the Clipping to access the URL as a clickable link, though I could see it. Ideally there would be a panel in the project for weblinks--and I would be able to copy a link in, then return to that panel and click on the appropriate link, without having to open all sorts of things in either the initial creation or the retrieval. E.g., each project would have a Bookmarks equivalent. I'm just getting into using the Project Center, and using it in pretty simple ways, mostly to collate related emails, not sharing anything.  - Contact destination Being unable to sync Entourage conduits with my Palm T5 after a reset I need to be able to save my contacts and if possible, emails . Seems that most of the issues in this forum would be eliminated if there was an Outlook 2003 for Mac (Entourage just is not up to par with latest Outlook).  - Sort order wrong for companies with multiple words in name Companies with more than one word in their name show up with the convention of a person, e.g., "General Electric" shows up in the "E" instead of "G" ... in Outlook, there is the Sort As field to solve this problem, but I cannot find similar in Entourage.  - Identities-Related Error Message Hello, I'm getting an identities-related error message when I start Entourage with one of my identities. I recently had to erase my hard drive in order to perform a clean install. Before I did this, I saved my Entourage identities folders and files. I recently tried to reinstall them by replacing some of my newer indentities folders with the older ones I had saved. When I do this, however, I receive an error message saying that my current version of Entourage cannot read this identity. Could anyone provide me with any advice?  - ERROR 23012 I find lots of questions when I search error 23012 on google but no answers. I have identical POP settings in Mail and Entourage.  - Unknown error -50, Hotmail I am having trouble downloading mail from one of my Hotmail accounts. The first 100 messages download with no problem. There are 838 messages remaining and I keep getting and error message: "An unknown error (-50) occurred. Could not retrieve mail. Account name: "Hotmail"" Initially I was able to fix this by deleting some messages thinking one or some may have been corrupt. Unfortunately the problem persists.  - Advantages of Entourage over Mail.app? Well, I decided to change my workflow habits in January and give Entourage a try, mostly because I paid so much money for Office 2004, I might as well try it. I launched Entourage from Office X once a couple years ago and never gave it a second look. So, I've been at it a month, and I mostly have very little appreciation for it, so I'm open to suggestions for folks to help me see the advantage. I use iCal and Apple's Address Book, and don't really do much of either anyway, so no integration advantages there. I can't fathom what I'd use Notes, Tasks, and Project Center for... I like to keep things basically in files in my own folder system. It's mostly the interface of Entourage that's driving me nuts. 1. I can't click the delete button quickly to go through emails... It won't work for the second email until an appropriate pause. 2. No Grouping by Threads/Subject? I read a few list servs and I REALLY miss this from mail.app. 3. The interface is bulky. Since I don't use anything but Mail, those other HUGE icons take up real estate. Plus, I can't find where to customize the toolbar. 4. When it checks new mail, the folder view doesn't scroll down to show the new emails... So I have to manually do it. That's silly. I may just be missing some things. But my guess is that since 90% of what I want to do is just email, that the overhead of Entourage is a burden instead of a benefit. Any suggestions otherwise?  - Conduit/ Palm problem Using OS10.3.7 and a Palm T5. Until I had to restart the handheld, due to a battery charging problem, all was right with the world. I was able to sync all work and contacts. Now, I can not sync and I can not download Entourage contacts to handheld, as the choice in Conduit settings are grayed out. I am not able to get the conduit to allow powerbook to overwrite handheld to get contacts on to Palm. Is there a way to unlock settings?  - Mutiple LDAP Entries Durign the Exchange setup we normally enter an LDAP server. I woudl liek to have two entires in case one the the DC's actign as an LDAP server goes offline.  - Upgraded to '04, now cannot print calendars. I had a set up under Entourage in Office v.X that worked fine for printing calendars, and I didn't even have to use list view to get it to print. Now that I've upgraded to Office 2004, printing calendars will not work. Entourage is the ONLY program that has a problem with printing, and it is ONLY calendars in Entourage that will not print. They don't even show up under quick preview. When I check the quick preview box, the only thing that shows is a gray box with nothing in it. I've even tried changing to list view, but all that does is cause Entourage to lock up when I try to get a quick preview made before printing. What happened in the upgrade to Office '04 that makes it impossible for me to print calendars now? How exactly is this an upgrade if I can't do what I did before? Been working with entourage for a couple weeks now, and the one annoying thing I can¹t get rid of is the ³Today², ³Yesterday², ³Tuesday², ³last week² ³last month² categorization of my emails in all my email folders (inbox, etc.). I have tried checking and unchecking the option in [Preferences>General>Use relative dates in lists], but this has no effect. Would really appreciate help, as this makes reading and scanning email folders horribly inefficient and reduces the # of emails on a page. Can¹t say I love the lack of customizability of so many interface aspects, functions, etc., but worth it give how nice it is working with the mac.  - Keyboard shortcut bugs in Entourage 2004 We depend heavily on using keyboard shortcuts to navigate text in Entourage 2004, but a few problems in Entourage 2004 have made this an incredibly frustrating experience for us: Here's just a few of the keyboard navigation problems: 1. Start typing up an email message and put the word "I" somewhere in the middle of your message. Put your cursor blinking immediately after the word "I". Then press "option-left arrow" on your keyboard -- this is supposed to take you to the beginning of the word, but instead, it actually jumps you back TWO WORDS instead. This same bug happens when you try "shift-option-left arrow" as well. This is really throwing us off, who depend on these keyboard shortcuts on a regular basis. This particular bug seems to only happen when you've got a one-character word like "I". 2. Of even more frustration -- and this one is hard to quantify -- is the fact that moving through text using the arrow keys is now a very jumpy, haphazard experience. This used to be a very smooth process with predictable results, because you could see the rate at which your cursor was moving through the text. Now, however, this has become an absolute nightmare: the cursor will stutter along, sometimes flowing smoothly for a few words and then quickly skipping over a few words and then pausing for a split second at another word. This happens even with all of the "autocorrect" features & "spell-check" features turned off. This is on a Power Mac G4 Dual 800 with Mac OS X 10.3.7, and it's even worse on an iBook G3. 3. When the preview pane is on the bottom, and the focus is on the preview pane, hitting SHIFT-TAB used to take us immediately back to the list of messages. But now, hitting SHIFT-TAB takes us up to the "search" field instead, so we have to hit shift-tab TWICE in order to get back to our list of messages. This is not nearly as frustrating as #1 and #2 above, but is still causing more work on our end than we would like. With all the attention Microsoft paid to unneeded features like the Project Center, it's extremely frustrating & annoying that the simple act of typing up text in an email message has fallen to the backburner and has made this a very bad experience for us. For some typical Micro-f-cking-soft reason first week a year shows Week 2
when using monday as first day a week in Entourage 2004. This can easily
be changed in MS Outlook, but not in Entourage. Does the Redmond Mac-team
really know that there is a world out there?? And does anyone have a
solution???

It's a bug. They know now. Actually, it's the other way around in 2006. In
2006, Monday as first day of the week shows the correct week number, while
Sunday as first day of the week shows two week 1's, with all other weeks
showing the wrong week number (1 too low). So it's not anti-world prejudice,
it's just a bug. I'd guess that the year when they devised it worked
correctly for both week starts and they forgot to test for other years.

And Entourage is not made in Redmond. It's made in Silicon Valley,
California.

Ooops, Silicon Valley then. But it -would- be comforting to those of us who
have spent an hour og two scratching our heads bald, if they had delivered
a slightest reminder about this nasty little bug, end perhaps produces a
bugfixer soon, preferably -before- 2006.
