Processor: intel

I am a new Mac user, and I am trying to get my Entourage account to synchronise and work with my Hotmail account. I have set up the account, but when I use the send/receive function, I get the following error message.
HTTP error. Access to the resource is forbidden.
The Windows Live Hotmail folder list could not be received.
Error: -18597

Does anybody have any ideas as to why this is happening and how I can fit it ?
Thanks

You could monitor your network traffic to see what Entourage is saying to
the server.

Test your network with tcpflow. See directions here:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/tcpflow.html>

Another application I ran into recently that does the same thing but has a
different interface.

EavesDrop....Let it capture some stuff then double-click any of the lines of
text in the main window to see more detail.

Hotmail has made changes, and I do believe that it no longer is accessible
from various mail readers, like Entourage. I encountered this a few months
back, when I was alerted that Hotmail would no longer be available to free
subscribers via mail readers. I was getting the same messages as you (it
started without warning), and eventually I dropped Hotmail.

So some questions. When did it last work for you, if ever?
Did you ever receive mail from Hotmail about it changing it's availability?
Do you access Hotmail through an MSN or Qwest account?
Did it work for you from Outlook or Windows Mail on Windows XP or Vista?
Does it still work for you from those Windows based products (mine doesn't).
Can you access it from a browser? (I can still do that).

Hope this helps.

Feedback from a user:

<quote>
After getting kicked around from the ISP to MSN to Apple, I finally worked
with a tech at Qwest and we reset the settings for MSN Mail to be a POP
service (instead of a Hotmail account) and it solved the problem.

Don't know for sure what caused it - the tech did mention something offhand
that MSN was converting accounts back to POP from http or something like
that).

So, I think you can at least get the mail to work again if you rebuild the
account in Entourage as a POP account. You'll probably need to ask the ISP
for the server names. And the Advanced Options need to be set to require a
SSL connection.
