 - Synchronizing Audiovox SMT5600 phone with Entourage I lost my Treo 600 and can't wait until the Treo 650 comes out for GSM (I need a phone now). I'm thinking of buying an Audiovox SMT5600, which I think is a superb phone/device, but I'm concerned about synchronizing it with Entourage. I read mixed reviews about PocketMac phone software.  - Code in my email text I'm using Office 2001 on an eMac. Although I don't see it when I compose a message in Entourage, when someone responds to my message or when it appears on a listserve, the following text is included at the top of my message: > My company name > Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" > Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit I've played with different settings in preferences and can't figure out how to get rid of it.  - how to be a delegate? I have a question about Entourage versionX. I want to look at the same entourage account in 2 different computers and when I went to microsoft homepage, they showed me this information; http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/entourage2004/using.aspx?pid=usingentourage2004&type=howto&article=/mac/LIBRARY/how_to_articles/office2004/en_delegateaccess.xml but, when I follow the directions and tried to add another person to the accouts box under exchange tab, it got an error saying "Error occured on the IMAP server". I do not know what the IMAP server is. Could someone please tell me how to add a person to my account? also, is it possible to use exactly the same email address in the two computers?  - Corrupted attachment solution Using Entourage 2004 11.1.0 any attachments that I receive are corrupted. This includes .jpg and .pdf. This is after they are saved to my drive. Curiously, if the attachment is a Word document, this is not corrpted and opens fine as do Excel docs. I sent myself files that I tested before and they were received corrupted. I searched this group and found many mentions of corrupt attachments happening going back to early 2004 but I could not find any solutions. I'd love to hear if anyone has found some solutions!  - Transfer of email addresses from Outlook Express 5.02 Until last night, I was using outlook express (5.02) as my email program. I installed Entourage 2004 and when I tried to "import" my old email addresses, the program said "no identities found".  - How to Archive old mail and get ready for 2005 This is repost on the last day of the year for those that tend to put things off ---------------------- There may be other ways to archive your old mail files but the following is what I do toward then end of each year to get ready for the new year. Just did it while watching a DVD movie with the family 1. I already had a mail folder called "Archived Mail' with sub folders for previous years. I created a new sub folder called "Mail 2004" 2. Used the standard Entourage tip to drag my current Inbox and Sent Items files to the desktop. This created two mbox format files. It tales a few minutes so please do not rush. 3. Now drag the two new mbox files into the newly created Mail 2004 folder. 4. Check that these files are good copies of your current Inbox and Sent Items in the new Mail 2004 folder are correct. Check that they look like your current Inbox and Sent Items. If not correct, repeat steps 2 and 3 until you get it right. 5. Once you are satisfied (step 4), open your primary mbox and use the "Select All" and Delete Key to create fresh file that will contain your 2005 mail. Do the same thing with your Sent Items file. 6. After you finish the above I recommend rebuilding the database by starting Entourage with the Option key held down. The cool thing about this procedure and the reason I use it is I have almost instant access to old mail files. I just went in and stripped the attachments from the old 2003 files. I have folders for my old Eudora mail and separate folders for 2002, 2003 and 2004. Each year is a mouse click away in Entourage. I have probably made this sound too complicated. It is not!  - Incomplete Import of Entourage X data-->Entourage 2004 This is elaboration of my MUD file post from earlier. I have created a new identity in 2004, imported my Entourage X MUD, and have most (if not all) settings, but only message from 2002 and earlier. When I open backed up Entourage X (which lives on a different drive), I see all messages, so I know the data still exists. How can a bring all messages into 2004?  - Rules don't since installing v11.1.0 upgrade Hi, I have noticed that all my rules in the POP tab don't work anymore. Watching other threads, I tried moving one rule called Family to the top of the list of my rules. This rule has multiple criteria including one that says if a specific category (FAMILY) then move to this folder. As there are multiple criteria, the rule is set so that it applies if ANY of the criteria are met. All other rules are disabled, and this rule is the first one in the list. So its the first one that should be tried, and it should work, but it doesn't. Instead of the message being moved to the specified folder, it stays in my Inbox. Yet the message is very clearly categorised as being FAMILY. If I manually apply the same rule (Ctrl-Click then select Apply Rule) the message gets moved to the correct folder. I even created a brand new rule with just one selection criteria (the category) and then another one (with the sender's name in it), made sure they were the first rules and they did not work. -- Regards David Tag: Applescript Free/Busy of an event?  - Flawed 2004 Upgrade; Can I Replace 2004 data with Entourage X MUD? When I upgraded to Office 2004, Entourage did not import all of my old mail or my Rules. I have a very recent version of Entourage X on a backup drive. Can I save the export the user data (the MUD?) from Entourage X and bring it into Entourage 2004.  - Getting IT guy to do his job I have a situation where there's an Exchange 2000 server in place for dozens of PCs and (1) Mac with Entourage 2004. The IT guy says Exchange 2000 won't sync calendars or public folders with Entourage 04 until Exchange 03 (which he has planned for second half of 2005). What can I succinctly tell this guy about what reasonable tasks/updates he needs to undertake with Exchange 2000 to get it talking to Entourage 04 in the next few weeks?  - AppleScript to autoquit Entourage Hi! I created an AppleScript to quit Entourage every day (so that it's not downloading my pop mail while I'm at work). This script is called from Entourage on a Schedule (which works just fine) and the script itself worked great under Entourage X. Now that I'm using Entourage 2004, however, I get about a 30% success rate - but 70% of the time, the application hangs and I have to force quit. Here's the script: tell application "Microsoft Entourage" activate quit end tell Any one out there have any thoughts on what I'm doing incorrectly? If I remove the "activate" line, it also works... but I don't know if that's the problem. Thoughts?  - How to MAKE the icon animate? I have the opposite problem from many people here. In Entourage X I had a rule set up that when mail from a particular person came in, the icon would animate. This also caused an "extra" sound to play along with my regular "new mail" sound -- I think it was adding on the "error" sound, which I appreciated because it meant I had a visual AND aural notification of mail from this person. Now in Entourage 2004 this is not working. The rule is set up that when mail from this address comes in, the icon should animate. (It's turned off in general preferences.) When I get mail from this person, I do get the extra sound...but the icon doesn't bounce. Unlike most here, I want it to. (But only from this person, not for every piece of mail that comes in.) The rule is set at #1 and I have "Do not apply other rules..." selected. Since the extra sound is playing, I know the rule is working. But why isn't the icon bouncing? Thanks.  - Setting for 'download pictures' Hello all- I've been searching extensively to find this option in the menus, but no luck. Hopefully someone can help! Whenever I receive an email with extensive external graphics (usually from a company - Netflix, Gamespot, Best Buy etc), Entourage 2004 Mac OSX does not download the pictures. Instead, it places a 'download pictures' button on top of the message.  - Entourage 2004 calendar issue Hi All, We have an Outlook 2003 user that needs to share his calendar with an Entourage user. He gave him the rights to the calendar and set the Entourage user up as a delegate on his Outlook account. Others we have done this for are working. For some reason on his particular account (Calendar, Tasks, Contacts, etc) the shared item shows up but no entires appear.  - I/O error I am getting "I/O error" messages when I try to connect on-line and when I try to duplicate my Identity. When I try to look at existing messages in my in box or related folders the computer "grinds" for 30 mor more seconds before finally displaying the message. Have been trying to delete old, unneeded mail - but the size of the identity remains very large (311MB). Ideas on how I can solve this problem without losing my address book, calendar, and messages?  - Invitations/Responses I'm using Entourage 2004 for Mac v. 10.1.0 When I enter a new Event in the Calendar, the "Request Responses" in=20 Options is checked by default. I never use "Invitations" -- is there a = way to=20 toggle this so the default is unchecked? As it is now, if I make changes to a previous event, [which I often do], = I get=20 two warnings: The first warns that I am changing something in the past.=20 The second warns: "You have made changes to this invitation. If the=20 organizer sends an updated meeting, your changes will be lost."=20 The only way to avoid these warnings is to manually uncheck that option = for=20 every single Event -- an annoying extra step.=20 By the way, I have NOT checked, "Tenatively add events when invitations = are=20 received." And: is there a way to set the default to "All-day event"? I have a lot = of=20 events that are one day or "sometime that day".  - Japanese Handheld Sync for Entourage 2004 I just installed Office 2004 and want to sync my Clie NX70V (Japanese version), but I'm not having any success. Since I want to preserve my Japanese language information, I downloaded the Japanese version of the Entourage Handheld Sync from the Mactopia web site - the one that states " version 10.1.4 works with Microsoft Office v. X 10.1.2 Update or later." but when I try to adjust the settings in the Hotsync Manager, the entourage conduit does not respond when I double click on it. (I want to have Entourage's contacts overwrite Clie's, and the Clie's calendar to overwrite Entourage's). I backed up and tried syncing anyway, and although the log indicated a successful Entourage sync, it completed in less than 5 seconds and no data actually changed.  - Unreliable Exchange Server Connections Hello. I am using MS Office 2004. I have an Exchange Server at my location. I set up my Mac to authenticate inside the Active Directory the Exchange Server is on (using Active Directory Plugin). I have been using the Exchange Server with Office 2004 for almost two weeks now. I have noticed the following problems: 1. PCs in my office use a DNS entry for the Exchange Server. I am forced to use an IP address. This number is what IT calls the Exchange "front end server" (...136). I cannot connect at all to the Exchange "back end server." (...135) My Mac is using DHCP with AD DNS servers. I am behind the company firewall. 2. If I leave Entourage 2004 connected to the Exchange Server for more than two hours, I cannot recieve or send mail. I have to quit Entrourage 2004 and reconnect in order to send/recieve mail again. 3. Since 2004 Entourage uses WebDav, I have tried connecting to the MS Exchange Server by using an URL like "http://mail.exchange.domain.com". That did not work. Thanks.  - Non US-letters, chars problem As an example the norwegian ÆØÅ is displayed with spaces before and after ex. My last name: Hægeland this is displayed H æ geland when it is used in subject and an the adress fields. Even Attatchments also get this change in filename. How do I solv this problem ?  - How to Retrive message deleated while "writing it?" I was in the process of finishing a new message when I accidently hit 'delete'. It was not in the delete folder. Is it still on my computer?  - Contact crashes entourage! help! Hello, I have a contact in my entourage address book that crashes my computer every time I try to open it. I have tried deleting the contact itself several times, and it will not let me delete the contact. I thought maybe it was a virus, but I ran a scanner and it came up emptied-handed.  - -3170 errors I'm helping a friend out with his Mac, and he is running Mac OS X 10.2.8 and using Microsoft Entourage v. X 10.1.6. Everytime he goes to check his Roadrunner account, he gets the "specified server could not be found" error -3170. I've read up on different sites, and here's what I've done for him: * I've recreated the mail account per Roadrunner's instructions on their web site. * I've reinstalled the Office update to make sure he is running the latest version. * I've read up on this group and I have turned off automatically checking names when sending messages. * I have removed Bigfoot & 411 from directory services. * I've typed in the IP address for his pop server rather than using the name. * I've pinged the pop server and I know it's up and running (0% packet loss). * I was able to successfully set up his email client using the Macintosh mail client, so I know his user name & password are correct. I seem to have lost me sound notification on my IMAC G5 when sending and receiving mail using Entourage Office 2004. I have sound preferences in Entourage set for notification but still no sound. Also system preferences is set for sound and I get sound when I check Itunes etc. Have I corrupted something within entourage?  - How to Archive old mail and get ready for 2005 There may be other ways to archive your old mail files but the following is what I do toward then end of each year to get ready for the new year. Just did it while watching a DVD movie with the family 1. I already had a mail folder called "Archived Mail' with sub folders for previous years. I created a new sub folder called "Mail 2004" 2. Used the standard Entourage tip to drag my current Inbox and Sent Items files to the desktop. This created two mbox format files. It tales a few minutes so please do not rush. 3. Now drag the two new mbox files into the newly created Mail 2004 folder. 4. Check that these files are good copies of your current Inbox and Sent Items in the new Mail 2004 folder are correct. Check that they look like your current Inbox and Sent Items. If not correct, repeat steps 2 and 3 until you get it right. 5. Once you are satisfied (step 4), open your primary mbox and use the "Select All" and Delete Key to create fresh file that will contain your 2005 mail. Do the same thing with your Sent Items file. 6. After you finish the above I recommend rebuilding the database by starting Entourage with the Option key held down. The cool thing about this procedure and the reason I use it is I have almost instant access to old mail files. I just went in and stripped the attachments from the old 2003 files. I have folders for my old Eudora mail and separate folders for 2002, 2003 and 2004. Each year is a mouse click away in Entourage. I have probably made this sound too complicated. It is not!  - Entourage Mac 2004: Export Files from Test Drive to Full version Less than a month ago I trialed the Office for Mac 2004. I decided to buy the software so meanwhile I transfered my contact data from Outlook for Windows. Now I have all my email account information, contacts and calendar in Entourage Test Drive. How do I export all this data, account info, contacts and calendar, so that I can uninstall the Test Drive version, reinstall Entourage and then import the data again?  - What is the difference between... I'm using Entourage 2004 for Mac (Version 11.1.0), and I was wondering what the difference between "receiving mails" and "refreshing message list" is. I just started using Entourage to read mails at my Hotmail account, and I've noticed that I, more often than sometimes, have to "Refresh Message List" to have mails appear in my folders. Along these lines, I've also noticed that my sent mails sometimes do not appear in the "Sent Items" folder until I "Refresh Message List." I even tried checking all the boxed in "Folder Synchronization Settings," but I don't see any difference. Could someone tell me what the difference between "receiving mails" and "refreshing message list" is and ideally optimized settings for Hotmail account in Entourage? Thanks.  - Ent 2004 - Exchange / Large Mail DB Issues All, Just wanted to put a message out there regarding some issues I've been having since implementing Ent 2004 in our Exchange environment. Now, the disclaimer for this message is that I do understand that a lot of what I am proposing or asking about here is quite "far out" and may be quite unachievable. I definitely am aware of that already, and would prefer that people don't bother with the "there's no way that's possible" type responses. Maybe the only answer to this is that it is incorporated in a proper update from MS? (we can only pray!). But I am hoping that in the mean time there is someone out there that can help with any possible workarounds? Now, first I have to say that we initially setup all our Macs with Ent X connecting into Exchange. With a few of our Mac clients having used Ent X for quite a while for POP/SMTP (before we got Exchange) and having a relatively stable / happy time using it I thought it would be the same connecting through to Exchange... *coughs* But, I'm sure most of you are aware of the problems that Ent X has connecting through to Exchange - all the crashing, DB rebuilds required, etc etc... Not to mention lack of functionality as compared to PC Outlook or even Mac Outlook 2001 / OS 9... *coughs louder* Anyways - when Ent 2004 came out + I was able to get my hands on a new Exchange server media kit (to get the Ent 2004 client installer for free! :)) - I eagerly went about installing this because ANYTHING would be better for us than having to put up with the incompetence of Ent X. OK - so Ent 2004 was installed and pretty much everyone has been happy ever since. Except ONE GUY! :) Who happens to be a DIRECTOR of the company I work for and as such needs to be kept happy ;) Now, this guy has a very large mail DB. Around 15,000 messages - with the Sent Messages folder alone containing around 9,000 messages. On top of the amount of messages, he has a large folder structure for all his client and internal mail to be stored into. All the other guys have smaller, much more managable DBs. But this one guy has this large DB, and basically the one thing that was good about Ent X was the fact that it used IMAP for Exchange connectivity. So, with using IMAP as compared to WebDAV in Ent 2004 it didn't need to constantly sync itself with the server and bring every new message it found straight away. It worked more on an "on demand" basis. You click on a folder, and THEN it would download messages as required. So, basically with the large mail DB it didn't have much of a problem. It left each folder alone (other than Inbox / Outbox, etc) and didn't worry about sync'n until a "user action" required it to. Now, with all the great features of Ent 2004, the stability of the mail DB, of it's Exchange connectivity - the ONE great failing of it is it's use of WebDAV which constantly syncs EVERY folder (including all Public Folders) and brings down each message the minute it sees it there. Now, in some ways this a good feature - if you are using a small, more managable DB then you will have no need to wait for server message downloads again - and also Public Folder viewing is nice and snappy, etc. The BIG problem here with our friend with the large DB, is the fact that his DB is so huge that the cycle that Ent 2004 goes through with sync'n messages simply takes FOREVER! Up to 20 minutes he claims - altho I think that may be a bit exagerrated. But, nevertheless it takes a good chunk of time - and the whole issue is that the "Inbox" folder is stuck within that sync and is only carried out ONCE within a full cycle. What this results in is a very long delay in received email actually being shown / downloaded into the "Inbox". From this guy's POV this is simply unacceptable - and quite understandably so. Now, obviously there is a case here to say that this DB should simply need to be cut down with older messages archived, etc - which would of course solve the problem - but this guy needs to carry out searches across these messages often. So, they need to be very easily accesible. And also need to be "protected", ie. part of our back up process. Any of Entourage's archival options ("Export" menu feature or drag-drop to Finder) are nowhere near sufficient for the amount of messages, and the large folder structure we are talking about here. There are many, many workarounds I have thought of, but each brings it's own pros + cons to the table, and NOTHING is as good as keeping all the messages within the single Exchange DB as it is - something that is accessible through all clients (PC - Outlook, Mac - Ent 2004, Web - OWA) and is also kept within the Exchange server for data protection / backup. So, what I was thinking was - the ONLY way around this easily is simply to make the Ent 2004 > Exchange sync process able to do any of the following: 1. Have the ability to flag EVERY folder within a mail DB as either "on demand sync" or "always sync". So, basically all folders that aren't needed to be constantly sync'd can be pushed to "on demand", and start acting like Ent X IMAP / Exchange folders used to. This will largely decrease the amount of time a sync takes and solve the issue. Is there any reason why the switch to WebDAV in Ent 2004 would change the possibility of this occuring as it used to in Ent X? 2. If the above isn't possible, then make an "Inbox" folder sync occur at much higher priorities, so that no matter how long the full sync takes, messages are still being received at regular intervals. Why can't the "Inbox" folder just be constantly sync'n at the same time as "main sync" process takes place? Bandwidth issues? Surely not?! Now, both the above seem to be quite low-level solutions that would most probably need to become an MS Update to the actual code running all these functions within the program. The question is - how easy would these things be to implement for MS? How could pressure be put on them to implement this in the next Entourage update? There are definitely no settings that can get this working within the Entourage Prefs. I understand there are MANY things out there on the wishlist for Ent 2004 - but this is a HUGE issue in my books. And as such it is a HUGE issue with a rather simple fix just waiting to be implemented by MS... (please MS!) Are we expected to just have mail DBs with small folder structures and HUNDREDS of messages rather than THOUSANDS? When at the same time an Ent X / Exchange could handle this setup with no problem? Or are we just expected to wait for this sync cycle to complete and believe "20 minutes isn't that long a time, so it's OK?" Or are we expected to just change back to using IMAP/SMTP protocols for Exchange functionality and lose a lot of the other good things that come with the Ent 2004 / WebDAV setup? The organisation I work for is rather small + as such only ONE guy is experiencing this - with the other mail DBs being much smaller. I would expect this to be much more of a problem at a larger organisation. It's quite strange I have heard nothing about this here?! Is anyone else experiencing this? Or are they just putting up with it? Is there, ANY way of getting the above noted options working by other means? AppleScript? Some kind of changing of "internal software" prefs that could somehow get this working how I wanted?  - .Mac email going into main Entourage account I have Entourage 2004. I have a .Mac account and a regular POP email account. I set up the .Mac account as an IMAP account in Entourage. However, when I receive emails sent to my .Mac address, it always goes into the regular, main POP email Inbox, not the .Mac Inbox. This doesn't seem right.  - Trying to remove Entourage messages from Server Thanks to the great scripts already out there, I've gotten this far! But now I need some help. I direct certain messages automatically to subfolders in my Inbox. Sometimes they're marked as read, sometimes not. Regardless, for certain subfolders, I would like to write a script to remove them from the server. Since some of these folders have hundreds of messages in them, I only want to apply the script to messages received today or yesterday, or within some recent period. I've discovered that if I don't do this, it takes forever to run the scripts. Here's what I have that I was hoping would work, but it's not: tell application "Microsoft Entourage" repeat with m in messages of folder "United" in folder "Inbox" if online status is fully downloaded then set m's connection action to remove at next connection end if end repeat end tell I get the following error with this script: Microsoft Entourage got an error: Can't get online status. And there are 2 messages out of 26 (this is a small folder) in this folder with a fully downloaded online status. (And they're really still on the server, I checked!) Entourage version X can be modified to request read receipts howver this option requires that all sent messages are associated with read receipts. No, there's almost nothing scriptable for Exchange accounts, not even a
number of things that were available for them as IMAP accounts back in
10.1.4. PLEASE keep asking for Exchange accounts to be made fully
scriptable, here and/or via Help/Feedback.
