 - importing old contacts and dates Is there any way to import old dates and contact info from the preference files or ay way to do so without first exporting contact info? I backed up all my old files onto a hard drive, got rid of my old computer, installed office on my new machine and tried copying all the backed up preference files to my new machine with no success.  - Scripting Entourage to automatically save attachments Hello, I'm a little new to applescript and was wondering if there is a way to write a script that is called by an Entourage rule that will save any attachments of the messages that match the rule to the hard drive.  - Weird characters In the last few days weird characters are showing up (on the other end) in my emails such as a 2 instead of a quote mark and EUR instead of bullet sign. (using MS word OSX). The only thing I can think of that has changed is the incessant continous virus attempt to get me to open attachments (supposed sent from Microsoft and all the alerts following this from email servers and returned mail I never sent). I was told the virus couldn't corrupt anything unless the attachments were opened (which they were not) and that furthermore th evirus would not affect a Mac.  - Rule for outgoing email Hi Can anyone help, I use Entourage 2001 and have one client that always has trouble with attached PDF files. I have solved the problem by changing the encoding of the email to Windows (MIME/Base64). Works a treat. My question is: is it possible to create a rule that will work when I type this clients email address in and automatically changes the encoding??  - 10.2.8 suddenly dialing constantly The previously mentioned problem may be related to 10.2.8 dialing automatically whenever I access an IMAP folder in Entourage. 10.2.6 didn't do this if all my messages were already downloaded, now the only way to keep Entourage from dialing is if I unplug the laptop.  - Launching Explorer from E-mail links I am running Entourage 10.1.1 and Explorer 5.2.3. I am unable to launch web links that are embedded into my emails. I have previously used Safari and the links would automatically lauch into Safari. But I have now deleted Safari from my drive and would like to get them to launch into Explorer. Is it possible to use the burst rule on digests that have already been downloaded?  - Mailing List Manager Mac OSX using Office Entourage Using Mailing List Manager suddenly has gone from useful to annoying. For some reason, lots of my mail goes into the News folder instead of where it belongs. This just started happening recently. In Outlook: 2001 for OS 9, it acts as an Exchange client albeit that you do not get all of the cap. The PCs get but at least you can use the Calendar & retain formatting between PCs & Mac. However, with Entourage X, it seems like there is now way to retain the formatting between platforms is this true? I have the HTML options turned on in the Preferences, but does not seem to make any difference any help will be most welcome!  - Block newsgroup attachments in Entourage 2001 Hi, I use Entourage 2001 as an offline newsreader, so have NG messages set up to download. Is there a way to tell Entourage not to download any message over a certain size? This would really be handy right now, what with the Swen virus. If an FAQ exists, I couldn't find it, apologies. By the way, I am only seeing these large "security patch" attachments on the public MS mac groups, not some of the other Word ones, which seems curious.... And in a related topic, is it worth sending feedback about the crying need for the ability to delete certain downloaded NG messages, or would the code just be too complex?  - Multiple copies of Contacts and Events when syncing with Exchange Hi all, I've got entourage connected successfully to our exchange servers at work. Everything seemed fine initially, contacts and events synchronised in both directions but then multiple copies of the same event or same contact started appearing and however often you delete them, they reappear. I've tried entirely deleting all contacts and events, reimporting them and resetting the sync in the accounts set up but the same thing happens.  - Entourage & Window manager use 90 % of cpu when displaying html When dsplaying in foreground by Entourage 10.1.4 (fr) on Mac OS X 10.2.8 an HTML mail, the cpu used by Entourage and Window Manager is about 90% on single processor iMac G4 (iMac flat pannel). This situation is new since update to Mac OS X 10.2.8. When displaying non html mail, cpu usage is low. Dave 4.1 is also used to access server shares. After initial installation the IMAP client was running fine, everything acutally worked as designed. However due to security policies user passwords are designed to be changed every 30 days. The users are also not saving their password in the initial Entourage log on box. Now is where the problem starts..... Two users now have changed their passwords, and Entourage now locks the AD account out after about 5mins of being logged on to. The Keychain is not being used as I have deleted all the keys in the keychain utility. Dave was not previosuly installed, so I thought well maybe the Domain controller is not talking correctly to the Exchange Server, I installed Dave to authenticate when logged on, still no help. PS I have setup the users keychain not to lock. And I have also had to install Outlook 2001 to get around this problem. If the user uses Webmail it works fine.  - Custom Views aren't working I'm having problems with Custom Views - while the conditions that I am setting for the view are sweet and simple, they don't filter the mail as I require. I've even taken to creating the view one condition at a time, and it still doesn't work. An example, I have created a custom view that shows everything that has arrived in the last 2 days. I don't want it to show me items that are in the Deleted Items folder, and I don't want to see all the things that have some in on the Microsoft News Server. First condition is the received date - no problems there, get just the messages in the timeframe specified. Then I set the view set to not include the Deleted folder, yet it still shows me items in the folder!!  - send-to-many problems Folks: Entourage 10.1.4 (the latest, I think) on MacOS 10.2.8. Entourage does everything right, no problems, until... Trying to put together some mailing lists, one of them with 83 addresses in a group, and 46 in a second group. I composed a message for each group and troubles started: (1) Can't clear addresses out of a group, can't select-all and "clear". Must delete the entire group and start fresh. Annoyance. (2) Put one of the groups as a recipient of a message and close the To: dialog box. When I return to that box, I get a message The action could not be completed. An unknown error (4363) occurred. followed by an Entourage crash. Reliably I'll be glad to supply a crash log. This appears to mean that Entourage is unstable with a large group in the To: list. Partial mitigation: I've found if I save (cmd-s) before doing anything further then I can edit in the To: dialog without crashing. OK, got messages to each group with proper addressing, all ready to go. Send the first (83 recipients) and it appears to go out OK. Try to send the second.. (3) When I try to send to the group, I get an error dialog Error: Mail could not be sent using the account "New SPACEBBS" Explanation: An unknown error (4363) occurred. Error: 4363 and the message is stuck in the outbox. But I'm pretty sure "Progress" showed quite a bit of action when I hit "Send". Now not only do I have a stuck message, but I'm not sure if it has been sent successfully to some recipients. Entourage gives the same error number for what are obviously two completely different problems!!! I would expect that Entourage could tell me more about what's going on in each of these cases. If Entourage has some kind of limit on the size of groups, well, there are better responses than these. If the problem is a garbled address in one group, then Entourage should tell me. Unless I missed something the MVP FAQ and the links I consulted from it are not informative on these kinds of problems. What's going on?  - Issue with how Entourage shows text from previous emails I find Entourage X very frustrating in the way it lists the previous text on an email that has been replied to numerous times by two parties involved in the message. When I receive an email, and choose to reply to it, my reply is typed below the original text; then when they reply, the previous message is indented, and their reply is above their original text, when I reply, my reply is again typed at the bottom. When I print out the last email in the chain, it is very difficult to tell who replied, when, and in what order - it's like trying to figure out a puzzle! Am I the only one with this problem?  - address book column problems Two problems with list view of address book contacts. 1. I changed the name of a custom field by double-clicking a contact, opening its window, choosing the "work" tab, clicking on the "custom 5" field label and changing its name in the window that opened up. Since then, the new field label shows up in every contact card I open, but NOT in the list view column label, and not in the View/columns menu choice, and not in the contextual menu that allows for column field choice. In all these places it is still labeled as "custom 5." 2. In a perhaps related issue, when I click on a column in the list view in order to sort the list with it, the sort is very speedy on most of the columns, but takes an unacceptable 7-8 seconds on the mis-named "custom 5" column. Any suggestions why this happened and what could be done about it? Entourage 10.1.4 OSX 10.2.8 Database size 76.5MB, recently rebuilt, 650 contacts.  - Lost Email My bosses iMac crashed and after doing an OS 9.1 reinstall the email was gone. I have found the database files in 2 locations, 1 in documents:Microsoft:Identities and another under the Microsoft Office folder. However niether of these files seem to contain his email. Somehow Microsoft Office created 2 set of these files and I am wondering if the database files were overwritten. Has anyone successfully recovered from this problem, if so how was it accomplished.  - Microsoft - Please update the Technet instructions as of Sept 23, 2003, The 'How to set up Entourage' instructions on the MS Knowledge Base, Mactopia and Microsoft Technet are for Entourage 2001. It's aggravating to have to pick thru it for Entourage X. Could an MVP reading this please request the instructions be upgraded to reflect the differences in the set up?  - Calendar problems with Entourage I came in to the office this morning and suddenly when I click on the calendar button in Entourage, I get an error message saying "Could not open that feature.  - Can't see inbound mail in Entourage X Entourage X sends e-mail, but won't SHOW received mail. The account works, we can see inbound e-mail on OWA (Outlook Web Access). What must I do to make Entourage show inbound e-mail? Is it in the app? Is there some system setting? We have 2 proxies (Web and Secure). Our ports match the Entourage defaults.  - Truncated mails Hi, Since a coupe of days I experience a severe problem with my Entourage (v. 10.1.4) for OSX (v. 10.2.6) (All English versions). My outgoing emails gets truncated after approx. 9 lines (or shorter with HTML fonts). Initially, attaching documents worked but now they also get lost during sending. I have tried to through out old mails and rebuild the database using both standard and advanced rebuild; however, without success. My database is approx. 275Mb. I believe the problem first appeared after installing the Office upgrades 10.1.4 and 10.1.5. I now also encounter crashes of Word and Explorer more often than before.  - System Crash: Lost Entourage Data I have finaly got my system up and runing with 10.2.6, although have lost faith in Apple along the way... anyway to the current issue...... I have had daily crashing problems. Basicly screen fills with text and must reset. I thought i had it beat when a week ago when I updated the Pioneer103 firmware to 1.49, for a week i had no problems. Today it crashed twice. Apart from wanting to sort out the crashing problem (no it's not memory), I am trying to recover my Entourage email first. It's all gone. All the configuration, mail and attachments. I am assuming the mail is held in the file users/userid/documents/microsoft user data/office x identities/main indentity/database. Is there ANY way to recover it? It is now about 400k in size. I have not tried to reconfigure it. I do have a backup from 7 days ago (Carbon Copy Clone), but I would prefer to have ALL my email. If i have to revert to the backup, can i just copy the file back?  - HTML links I've just set up my new G5, and the only problem I've had in moving my Entourage over from my old machine is that now any links from within the body of an email don't work.  - damaged database on Entourage Hi, I wondered if someone copuld help me? My entourage email account at work will not let me in as it's telling me there is a problem with my database and do I want to rebuild? I have tried basic and advanced rebuild but it wont let me do it because of a 'compacting error'. I have had a call out firm have a look at it and the problem seems to be my database is too big.  - "Microsoft" mail viruses... Hey all, Is anyone else getting emails that are supposedly from microsoft? Things like "network updates" and "security patches" with some .exe attached, I'm getting about 60 a day, each time from a different address (they are obviously not from microsoft.) Also, I get a hell of allot of emails saying mail delivery has failed for an address I've never seen before, with an .exe attached as well. Apparently these emails are coming from people's machines that don¹t know they are sending these "viruses", Well I delete all of them, never tried to open the files. My question: do you guys think that I'm infected as well? 2ndly, how the hell can I stop these mails from coming to me, I don¹t want to use the junk mail filter since I will never be able to remember _all_ the addresses I _want_ to get mail from, what would be great if there would be a feature where you could ban an address, like you get a mail, right click, and choose "block this address".  - Why don't my RULES work ? I've been getting tons of spam the past few days, most of it purporting to be security notices from Microsoft and stuff like that. Much of it uses the same TO: address, like Inet Client, Mail Client, Net Receiver, etc. Also a lot of it has been run through my ISP's screener and has a message about something called brightmail virus screening in the body of the message. I set up some rules in Entourage such as: If message body contains brightmail delete message Or If only recipient contains Inet Client delete message Etc (should I be using "only recipient" or "any to recipient") YET I still am getting these emails.  - Tungsten T2 problems I upgraded from a handspring deluxe to a palm Tungsten T2 and now syncing is a disaster. Sometimes, it syncs my address book for a while only for me to find everything out of alphabetical order in my address book (thank god for the backup chip and restore function). Now I have noticed that NONE of the contacts' addresses in entourage have made the move into my new palm, just the phone numbers. I have tried to re-map and it won't let me unless I am importing. I can't import b/c everything is already in entourage. Also, I was wondering if anyone had any problems w/ vindigo, entourage, & tungsten. That also is a disaster. Server 2000, but my contacts are not under the Entourage Address Book.
I have an all but non-existant IT guy who hasn't given me the LDAP or
Free/Busy server addresses yet. (After 4-6 weeks!) Is contacts
syncing with the Address Book connected to those settings?

You mean the global address book or your own ??

The global address book is queried through LDAP. Depending on the
configuration on your network, setting this up could be tedious... You
probably need the infromation from the IT guy :-\
