I would like to know how I can set programmaticaly the group policy for the
unsigned driver instalation?

I found two ways of setting this policy to ignore the warning manually
1. in the System control panel
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/prdh_dmt_qrxm.asp

2. in the group policy editor

but when I can't do it manually how can I do it programmatical?

Hi Manfred!

>but when I can't do it manually how can I do it programmatical?

If we provide a way to programatically turn it off, wouldn't that defeat
the purpose of signing the drivers?

Hope this helps.

For 1) you do can set registry key to ignore , but that will not set your
unsigned driver installation silent, you'll still receive INF path dlg

Not sure about the policy, but the silent installation of unsigned drivers
is definitely possible. Not with documented ways, though.

I definitely hope it is not.

Well, the setup app of one reputable driver package displays the following
message: "Certification for our device type is not currently available, so
Windows can show nags about unsigned drivers. Please let us disable them
while we're installing". At least, this is honest..

Are you sure ? The only way I saw to remove dlg ( not warning dlg ( that
possible through registry ) , but INF path dlg ) of unsigned driver , was to
install signed version and on that one reinstall additional non-signed
changes ( nice for development , but not appllcable for customers ).

I am absolutely sure. And it's relatively easy.

I don't wish to share the know-how, though, unless for money. Because (a)
this task is for an expert, (b) if you are an expert you can figure it out
yourself, and (c) you can find some hints in the Internet.

Then there is no point in your participation in this thread.

Mark.

Dear Mark,

I am sorry I disappointed you, too. You wanted to get something for free?
Sorry, you better go test your drivers to have them pass WHQL tests. You
can't blame me you can't guess what the trick is.

I pointed out that the silent install of unsigned drivers is *possible*. It
is useful information per se. Besides, I gave a hint - search the internet.

Now could *you* tell what is the point of your participation in this thread?
Who are you telling me whether I should participate in this thread or not?
As long as I don't violate the rules of this newsgroup...

Cheers,
Nick
