    - How do I access a LPC I/O, general question Hi guys, first of all I'm all new to this kind of work, so please forgive me my ignorance. I used to programm microcontrollers like the Infineon C16x or Phillips 8051 Series. I have never done any hardware programming for the windows 32bit plattform. To make this short. I'd like to know what I have to do to be able to access registers of a chip like the Winbond W83627THF LPC I/O http://www.winbond-usa.com/products/winbond_products/pdfs/PCIC/627hf.pdf Do I need the DDK, is it possible to access the chip via windows-api? How do I access a certain register, if I know the hex address according to the manual? With the microcontrollers I programmed I just had to read from this adress, like: #define LEDS 0xFF04; if(LEDS==0x01){..} Maybe someone has got a hint or links to docs I should read.     - Windows 2003 Server compatibiliy Hi, I figure this is the write group to ask this sort of question. I am trying to determine general device driver compatibility with Windows 2003 Server. Sepcifically if a hardwar has a Windows XP or Windows 2000 driver will it be compatible with Windows 2003 Server. I have looked for info but have not been able to find a specifc specification or standard that seperated 2003 drivers from their XP or Win2k counterparts. Could somebody please clarify this for me.     - UMSS for win 98 Hi,All: I used Microsoft release UMSS source code to develop our USB mass storage driver for windows 98. I found that When AEP_DEVICE_INQUIRY is received, I create IOP and submit ILB request to call my WDM driver. Normally the ILB request will wait until my calldown complete routine is complete, then I free the IOP. But sometimes the ILB request will complete after calling my WDM driver(my WDM driver don't issus complete). When my calldown complete routine is complete, the system hang. Because the IOP is free. Does Anyone know what happen?     - SetPrinterData Dears, I'm building cosumized dll using unidrv model (oemdll example). I used SetPrinterData and GetPrinterData in the UI dll it worked fine, GetPrinterData also worked fine in the customizaion dll of the graphics engine.     - windows = realtime? Hello, I have posted similar topic some weeks ago and now I want to discuss it further. I'm searching for operating system to meet real-time constraints. I know that windows is not true real time system, but I have found some papers complaining that Windows NT can be used as real time system. It complains that total interrupt latency of NT is about 30 microseconds. That sounds good for me. I found nothing about Win 2000 and XP interrupt latency. Maybe someone knows? I think if I write my apps in Ring0 as kernel mode drivers, then I will have latency as system interrupt latency. So why Windows cant be used as real-time system? Maybe someone have good ideas or links about that. I found it very interesting topic. I have searched through internet and found lots of add-on for linux kernels, but they can guarantee about 30 microseconds latency. Developers complain that these add-ons is real time.     - Driver error (I am a newbie at this) I used the function ZwCreateFile in a keyboard driver source code (C language). The DDK linked it well but when I install the driver, reboot and press a key (in the source code I wrote to do ZwCreateFile when I press a key) There is a black screen for about half a second and then it reboots again. I debugged it and now I know that it happens exactly in the ZwCreateFile. When I linked the same source to a normal EXE file the open worked well and there were no runtimes. What it the problem?     - memory backed files I want to write to a memory backed file. I create a file - I create a section with the file handle I open a view on the section. Question: It appears that once I've got a section, I just write to the mapped section. Then I close everything up and viola, stuff just shows up on the disk when the MM is done having its way with it. Fine, how big is the file ? There is a MaximumSize arg to ZwCreateSection, and a flag SECTION_EXTEND_SIZE. But how do I guess at a size, then if turns out I did not need so much memory, how do I shrink it down? When a new volume is detected by PnP manager, the system ask for one of our drivers (the one actually creating the disk objects), even is this driver has already been installed in the system. We have then to provide the path to this driver file, and this is somewhat annoying. We want to avoid this behavior. For e.g:- If I have a printer driver which acts as a format convertor(lets say converts to .doc format), how can I get this driver signed?     - Terminal server and windows 2000 Printer driver Hello, Can someone explain me this behaviour:- 1) Installed my printer driver on machine A locally on 2000 terminal server. 2) Connect to machine A from a 2000 professional machine "vipin" using remote desktop connection and login as USER1(this is in administrative groups) 3) Connect again to machine A from 2000 professional machine but with login USER2(Administrative group rights) Observation:- Each time I connect, I see a new printer getting created of the form printername\vipin\session0 printername\vipin\session1 .... and makes it the default for the session. Everytime I logoff the session, the correspomnding session instance gets deleted. It would have been fine if there were one session instance viewable in the session's printer folder, printer session instances of all the sessions to the Terminal server are visible. In addition there is a printer of the form "printername". These are viewable also when you log as a user on the Terminal server itself. So I installed the Microsoft drivers(one's that come with the operating system using Add Printer), I make connections, I don't see the behaviour.     - "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable" during installation of a PnP printer device. Hi All, I have a strange problem with a Printer INF file that I don't know how to resolve... I have created an INF file through MS genINF tool. The printers included in the INF file support serial, parallel (IEEE 1284) and USB interfaces and as you may suppose the parallel and USB interfaces support PnP. The file in my opinion is a correct one and when I install the driver without "Automatic Windows detection wizard" but with manually choosing the Printer port and driver location all the things work fine. The installation wizard copies the driver files successfully to windows driver directory. However during the driver installation for automatically discovered PnP printer (for example with USB interface) when I choose "Specify a location" in "Locate Driver Files" dialog page and after that "Next" Windows locate my INF file as a correct driver INF file but when I press "Next" button the following message appears in the next dialog page: "An error occurred during the installation of the device. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.". I have tried the mentioned procedure on 3 different machines and always get the same result (Windows 2000 SP4). That is why I suppose that the problem is not with the directory but with the INF file. Enum.sys -> VR.sys -> key.sys Enum.sys is a enumerator to enum key, VR.sys is the driver for virtual smart card reader and key.sys is the driver for the key. Now, I meet a problem, I write a PC/SC application to send APDU sequentially to my token, but some time when I surprisedly remove the token, the system will crash and show there is a 0x000000ce fatal system error in VR.sys. That means there is an operation not cancel in VR.sys when key.sys unload. I think may be when the token removed, the VR will delay to get the message and the application still send IRP to VR.sys, so it will cause system crash. Is that right?     - Multiport Serial I am writing a kernel mode driver for a PCI card with 16 serial ports. It is a WDM style driver, and in my INF file I've made the class "Multiport Serial" (GUID 50906cb8-ba12-11d1-bf5d-0000f805f530). The driver archetecure is based on the multifunction example in Walter Oney's 2nd edition WDM book. In the AddDevice routine for the child part of the driver, I'm calling IoRegisterDeviceInterface, using the GUID that the serial driver uses for the same call (86e0d1e0-8089-11d0-9ce408003e301f73). None of the 16 child devices seem to appear to the system as serial ports. Hyperterminal does not recognize them. Although the Device Manager shows a Multiport Serial entry, with the 16 devices (and the controller/parent device, which I really don't want users to see), it does not list them under Serial Ports. What exactly does "Multi Port Serial" mean to Microsoft? If not RS232 type serial, then what was the intention?     - intermediate driver link rate reporting I have implemented an intermediate driver for Win2K with tapi support. The link rate indicated in the dialer is not right. The rate given at the time of installation( as a response to tapi calls) is always taken, & the rate given later is not taken and shown by the dialer. Hi

Under Windows NT4.0 the spooler would load any language/port monitors immediately when the spooler was started.
Under Window XP Pro SP1 the spooler can take up to 2 mins before it loads them.
This is circumvented as soon you access the print manager or send data to the printer.
Is there a way to get this to behave in the same fashion as NT, i.e. load the monitors as soom as I start the spooler.
