    - How to access mapped memory from kernel driver Hello, This is probably a very simple thing, but somehow i can not find any examples on the internet dealing with direct memory access. I have embeded board that has battery backed memory - this memory is linked to ram (like video RAM) and it is located at D000:0000 (in DOS like format) I can access this memory from dos and i also can access this memory from winDriver utility and other utilities dealing with memory access from windows XP. however in my kernel driver I'm getting Access violation - code c0000005 (!!! second chance !!!) error on any attempt to acces this memory range. I have portions of my driver accessing ports - this works fine so I'm really lost here. this is what I'm doing: in driver entry: PHYSICAL_ADDRESS MemAddress; ULONG MemLength; MemAddress.HighPart = 0x00000; MemAddress.LowPart = 0x0D0000; //NVRam Base Address (d000:0000, 4 kb window) MemLength=0x1000; //4kb window ......     - PsSetCreateProcessNotifyRoutine What is the problem with unloading a driver that called PsSetCreateProcessNotifyRoutine? I've heard there was a bug in Windows with leaving the hook in the list even after unregistering. Wasn't that bug fixed in Win2k or XP? Unloading seems to work fine on XP.     - SetupCopyOEMInf SetupCopyOEMInf does not recopy the file if it finds that a binary image of the specified INF file already exists in the INF directory with the same name or a name of the form OEM*.INF. My question is: If I wanted to replace the INF file and OEM file every time installing the driver, what method or function call I need to use in order to make this happen? I used CopyFile() to copy the INF file while installing but it pop up the window asking for the DLL file and I don't want the pop up either, it suppose to be silent install. I also tried SetupCopyOEMInf(szInfFullPath2, NULL, SPOST_PATH, SP_COPY_REPLACEONLY, szInfNameAfterCopy, MAX_PATH, NULL, NULL) to replace the INF file and I got error code 0x80070002 Any help are apreciated, Thanks, Hannah.     - 1394 + WinXP SP2 Hi All! Unfortunately, I'm a total newb to driver development and I have a broken driver that I have no idea whats going wrong. Its a 1394 isocronous camera driver that was developed on W2K but had been working on XP until SP2 was released. Now the driver will no longer load itself. The failure occurs on IOCallDriver which returns 0xC0120090. The error is defined as STATUS_FLOAT_INVALID_OPERATION. I can not determine what that error means. The driver is in the process of initializing an address space to receive quadlet write requests (status messages) from the camera.     - Where to find more detailed INF description? Hi I have the problem that I don't get usber.sys working on Windows ME. On Win2k it works, but I guess that it's more luck than knowing what exactly goes on (there are some good examples to find). The key-problem is, that the i.e. registry entries are not fully specified (what's possible in the Install section). Does anybody know where to find a more detailed information about INF files, i.e. what different registry entries are possible, or how to extract a default driver from default Windows installation CD, etc? Without additional information it will stay trial-and-error to complete the INF file - but still: how to know about existing possibilities without having a description about it?     - How to set up a USB driver to read an Interrupt End Point Dear Experts, I have a device with an interrupt endpoint where data can be asynchronously sent by the device. To read this data, I have followed the technic presented by Mr. Walter Oney in his book on WDM driver - setup a End Point in transaction to be always pending on the desired end point. This technic works functionally but reads data one byte by one. This is slowing down my driver. I want to setup this pending IRP to read as many bytes as are present in the EP buffer in one shot. How do I do this? Do I simply set the IRP to read multiple bytes? What will happen if the device has just one byte to be sent? Will this not keep the IRP pending till the device has as many bytes of data as requested? I do not want this to happen either - I want to read "as many bytes as present at the time of issueing this IRP" without waiting if less no. of bytes are present. Thanks for any ideas.     - device driver missing or corrupted I am using Windows XP SP1 on a HP Pavillion Desktop a335w & I am in desperate need of help! My printer is not working, nor, my floppy disk! Keep getting message Code 39 that device driver for my floppy disk is either missing or corrupted & I do not know what to do as I cannot find a driver for this anywhere. It is: "Copy a large file from disk to a removable disk, then go to suspend (S1 or S3). After resume, it needs to finish file copy without any error messages."     - How to precisely control timing write I/O to lpt with driver? can someone tell me how to precisely control timing to write I/O out to Lpt with kernel mode driver? I had compiled and modified a kernel mode parallel port driver, a user mode dll to export I/O read and write, and a MFC application that issues I/O read and write through the driver to an externel device connected to the parallel port. Everything seem like ok, but when i use QueryPerformanceCounter and QueryPerformanceFrequency api in the MFC application to obtain accurate desired timing delay (in nanosecond accuracy), the application writing out a waveform to the Lpt to the external device, may not appear as accurate as desired. Sometime the delay appear longer, though most of the time it works fine. In some computer it has such delay error appear at every particular interval.     - Interrupt handler with an event flag We are passing an event flag (from "CreateEvent") into a Device Driver with the command "DeviceIOControl" to signal an Interrupt from the hardware back to the software and make sure it is properly synchronized. This works OK until we try to close the Windows Console application when Windows 98 hangs up and needs to be rebooted. Walter Oney's instructions were heeded: closing the handle to the Device Driver and calling "ObDereferenceObject" with "KeReleaseSpinLock" to release the event flag inside the Device Driver. I do not have a access to a protocol analyser and wondering whether this is a known issue with the driver or a problem with the device. I am using a fairchild transceiver with the opencores usb1_funct and usb_phy which ( according to their forum ) works out of the box. I am also going to post on there incase the problem is at that end. Could someone point me in the right direction 1) Has the device responded? If so, is it a corrupt response (i.e. a noise or timing issue). Has it stalled? According the device it has not stalled or had any CRC or overflow errors. 2) Can it be recovered (by some call into the driver, such as a reset) that will allow me to continue, or is it terminal. And the thread calls PsTerminateSystemThread() to end itself. Another thread waits for the working thread to be terminated. But sometimes it takes a long time (under driver verifier with low resources option) and KeWaitForSingleObject() returns with STATUS_TIMEOUT, even when I set the timeout to 2 minutes.     - DeviceOiControl and ADD_KEY Hi, I am not actually driver writer but I do not know another way to get on WPA-PSK. I have tried to use DeviceIoControl as WEP (that works) so that I give PSK coded as WEP-key but any connection happen.     - How to support 3 packet transfers for USB 2.0 isochronous ? USB high speed isochronous can transfer up to 3 packets in a microframe. In wMaxPacketSize of end point descriptor, bit 0 ~ bit10 indicates maximum packet size and bit 11~ bit12 specify the number of additional transaction opportunities per microframe. The driver usually prepares USBD_ISO_PACKET_DESCRIPTOR->offset by multiplying wMaxPacketSize. Now the driver would issue isochronous read and the device may transfer 3 packets in a microframe. How does driver prepare the ISO packet offset? ISO->offset = i * (wMaxPacketSize & 0x3FF) * 3 Is the above code correct ? XPDDK usb isochronous sample code uses wMaxPacketSize directly though it said high speed transfer is supported in the code. Does it support multiple transactions in one microframe?     - What's Microsoft policy for USBCAMD? Microsoft provides USBCAMD library driver for USB PC camera. In Win2000 DDK, Microsoft still proivdes sample code for usbcamd.sys. In XP DDK, the sample code is removed since Microsoft don't want vendors to replace Windows build-in usbcamd.sys. So I think Microsoft hope vendors only develop usbcamd mini driver for their usb pc cameras. However, usbcamd.sys doesn't support multiple interfaces device. What driver model does Microsoft recommand for multiple interfaces device? Currently, Microsoft provides usbvideo.sys and recommands vendors follow USB video class spec. USB video class seems to be multiple interfaces device. One interface is for some descriptor tables and the other interface is for video stream. I have included the symbol path to the env path. I also have installed full debugging tools including the platfrom sdk option which contains ntoskrnl.exe Use !analyze -v to get detailed debugging information.     - WDM streaming driver and user mode interaction I have a WDM streaming driver(Video) solution and I want that to interact with a user mode component( a Service Exe loaded at logon time in my case). What would be the best way to go about this ? Basically, the service sends some data eveyr now and then to the streaming minidriver. Should I use IOCTL's and send data excluseively ? or shall I use FileMapping or some shared objects ? 1>I know there are no direct IOCTL's going into the streaming minidriver as the class driver handles everything. But can I overload the class driver's IRP_MJ_DEVICE_CONTROL with mine ? 2>Should I use Property Sets and Plug ins ? Remember that the service will need to send data every now and then( and I am thinking of using Events to communicate between driver and the service where driver initiates an event and the event when evoked, either does an IOCTL or some other way to communicate data to the streaming minidriver) so the calling would be something like a service -> Plugin -> Minidriver ? 3>any other method that anybody can suggest ?     - How to send proprietary commands to a mass storage device ? Hi, I have to access to an USB device declared as mass storage (or maybe CD) in order to send proprietary commands from an application without the need to write a kernel driver. I guess that using CreateFile with a name as \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE<x> or \\.\<x>: will be fine to send a proprietary command to my device via a DeviceIoControl. But after some investigations, I did not find any way to do this. I expected mass storage commands to be available from user mode. Can anyone give me some hints about this ?     - How to find the size of data in SystemBuffer? Hi, I am writing a serial upper filter driver which needs to be able to monitor the read and write data for a serial port. The driver is on a port being used by Windows "Dial Up Networking" to establish an Internet connection via a modem. The buffering method used by RasDial is METHOD_BUFFERED (Mdl is NULL). I can see the write data in my DispatchWrite routine OK and the size of the data in SystemBuffer is correctly reported in OutputBufferLength I use a CompletionRoutine to see the read data coming back up but although the contents of SystemBuffer appear to be correct the size is wrong. It is reporting the same size that was passed down in IRP_MY_READ request and not the actual size of the data received. How can I find the actual size of the data present in SystemBuffer? Thanks O.C.     - GetCommState Function I wrote some functions to open, close, read and write to our custom printers. In the open function, I use GetCommState to get the serial port state. It compiles with no problem. When I use the function, I get the error Invalid Function when GetCommState is called. Hi Mark/All, My Dev Env is: Windows2000 + VC++ 6.0 + Latest DDKBuild + WINDDK (windows server 2003 ddk) Env variable is set to: W2KBASE C:\WINDDK when I create the project as it's been suggested by MARK at his website www.hollistech.com I get a directory called "objchk_wnet_x86" under my source directory which contains all the .sys, .pdb and others.... (this is right after creating the project and build it for the first time) then I make the change to let say one or multiple of .c files and do the build again.... build goes through with no error.... then I look at my .sys file under the "objchk_wnet_x86" and I'll see that it hasn't been updated... the creation time is still the old one.!!!!!! why? then I delete the log file and all the old file and do the build again and guess what... It doesn't generate any of the outputs??!!! what is happening here is what i have under the project setting Build command line: ddkbuild -debug -W2k checked .     - Zero-loss DVD-R/RW? I am wondering if anyone has seen DVD-R/RW (minus, not plus) writers with zero-loss linking capability. I mean the ability to write a ECC block (16 sectors) say at the logical address 0, stop, and then write another block somewhen later at the address 16.     - i need help getting a SIS graphics driver.... Hey all, I am in need of someones help to get me a SIS graphics driver for my compputer. I don't know what kind it is but as the BIOS starts, just before, it flashes quickly that it's a SIS-sylicone integerated systems graphics pro something. I recently had a crash and had to re-install windows and it doesn't have this driver. I don't have the disk that came with it either.     - PCI DMA concepts ?? Hi everybody. I am having some doubts with a driver for a PCI card.I learned how to read/write configuration and map memory to kernel space but confused in using how to do dma read & write. 1. The pci card has built in PCI & DMA controller. DMA controller registers (READ and WRITE registers) can be programmed by specifying (PCI_ADDRESS, LOCAL_SDRAM_ADDRESS, SIZE).(These registers are memory mapped via BAR3 and can be programmed by host system or by the Local card.) 2. on the host side I have done DMA alloc (say for 5MB )using HalAllocateCommonBuffer() and also created dummy ISR to perform Receive from the pci card. 3. for Transmitting data to the pci card , I think that I can program the DMA registers that are memory mapped into host side. so that the DMA controller does the Transfer. and generate interrupt ot host upon completion. Is this a correct way? 4. for Receiving from the Pci card, the card generate interrupt to the host after DMA transfer from pci to host memory by programming the DMA registers from the loca side. cld u explain for dma read and write sequence so that it wld be helpful for me in step a head. 5. I created a large DMA bufffer for DMA Xfer. how Read and Write use this buffer. or I have to allocate DMA buffer for Tx and Rx on the host side. 6. The Windows IrDA stack (IrLAP) does not accept a
Windows Size greater than 7. For VFIR the Window
Size can be any value from 1 to 127.
Is there a fix for the IrLAP driver?
