    - How can I disable the specific folder sharing in kernel mode or user I wish to learn the principle of file sharing in windows. Does it base on registry? Which module or driver does that work? How can I disable the specific folder sharing in kernel mode or user mode ? And I have another question. When I open a file shared on the other PC, IRP_MJ_CREATE comes to \Device\LanmanRedirector device and PFO's file name is formed as \192.168.1.1\sharedfoldername. And when I open a shared file on my PC, it is also come in same form. How can I distinguish between them? And If it is on my shared file on my PC, How can I get the exact file path such as "C:\sharedfoldername\1.txt" from net path such as \192.168.1.1\sharedfoldername\1.txt? Thank you for your help.     - Obtain FAT32 volume data just as it's done for NTFS Hi. I have problems with obtaining FAT32 volume data. For NTFS there's a FSCTL_GET_NTFS_VOLUME_DATA control code, and nothing similar for FAT32. Actually I need only 2 pieces of information: 1) The offset of the starting sector of the volume from the beginning of the disk; 2) The number of the sectors per cluster, or the number of bytes per cluster. At the first glance you may think it's easy to obtain them using IOCTL_DISK_GET_PARTITION_INFO control code, but the things are somewhat complicated. For NTFS volume the starting sector offset can be obtained easily dividing the starting offset of the partition (in bytes) by the number of the bytes per sector (the mentioned arguments are obtained through IOCTL_DISK_GET_PARTITION_INFO and IOCTL_DISK_GET_DRIVE_GEOMETRY control codes). For FAT32 volumes data sectors start from partition offset + reserved sectors + n*FAT size, and it's impossible to get these arguments through any conrol code. The only obvious way to obtain them is reading sector 0 of the partition, which contains all the necessary data. Unfortunately I have problems with reading exactly sector 0 - a legacy filter driver encrypts/decrypts all read/write operations and it functions incorrectly just for sector 0 read operation, as a result I get garbage.     - Accessing more than 4 serial ports in DOS Hi, I want to write a DOS utility than can access all the serial ports present on my system. Typically I have a Plug-n-Play card, which has six serial ports present on it, that are I/O mapped.     - Checksum Offload With IPV6 On Server 2003 Hi! Does anyone know if checksum offload is enabled by default with the IPV6 stack on Server 2003? It does not appear to be the case since I never see the NdisPacketChecksumV6 bit set in the OOB NDIS_TCP_IP_CHECKSUM_PACKET_INFO packet info.     - mapping device memory to userspace through MDL direct io communica I am trying to map the device memory(128MB) to userspace through direct IO interface using MDL's. I have choosen below approach for mapping the memory to user space: IoAllocateMdl for allocating buffer for MDL(with virtual address of the device memory, from MmMapIoSpace) MmBuildMdlForNonPagedPool MmMapLockedPagesSpecifyCache By doing in above method, i have observed that, i could map the memory to only less limit,0x20000, but if i tried to use the full size(128MB), system is giving Blue screen with error as KERNEL_IN_PAGE_ERROR. I am building the driver using WDF tool kit & trying in Visat-32 bit OS.     - The first effort going to install bulkusb driver. I have changed VID/PID in inf according to bulkusb sample. then I copy bulkusb.sys to the same dir as bulkusb.inf. when I plug into my hardware, there is a driver being loaded automatically in the Human Interface Devices. not USB HID interface device, but a HID-compliant devices. so I choose to uninstall, refresh, it is always being installed automatically. then I choose to update driver, and choose my setup disk where bulkusb.inf/bulkusb.sys is. it says: the wizard could not find a better match for your hardware than the software you currently have installed. so I am stuck.     - Where can I get symbols for wdfldr.sys and wdf01000.sys? Where can I get symbols for wdfldr.sys and wdf01000.sys? The debugger cannot find them anywhere on the symbol server. A google search suggests that they are in the WDK but I am currently running the WDK as installed from WDK_6000.16386.061101-2205.iso and cannot find these symbol files anywhere.     - .inf for using usbser.sys with CDC Vcom on Windows 98 My company has a device that uses usbser.sys in WindowsXP/2000/Vista to act as a CDC Vcom port. It works fine in those OS versions. The problem I am having is that when I attempt to use the same .inf file in Win98 I see my device as installed with no problems in device manager but the device never seems to be issued a port number. I have not been able to find any example inf files for USB CDC vcom that use Win98. I have read some documentation on version with XP/2000 that claim that you can use CDC on Win98 by modifying the .inf file. Has anyone used or seen a CDC .inf file for Windows98 that correctly installs a CDC VCOM device and issues it a port number correctly in device manager? Tag: WinDbg question Tag: 104325

    - [OT] Process Monitor Symbols loading Problem on Windows 2000 Professional,... Hi, i know this is not the NG for this, but even after asking this question on Sysinternals Forum, i did not get a solving answer on this. The Process Monitor does not load/download the symbols for my Windows 2000 Professional System. Any other Application WinDbg, Process Explorer works fine and the configuration is not different from the others, since they all use the same method to get the symbols from MS Symbol Servers. Process Monitor still wont resolve callstack/frames, even there is the pdb files available for the binaries. It also does not download the symbols from MS Sym Server. All other applications work well with ms symbol server. I really dont know what the problem here is. It seems like Process Monitor (i use the latest) does try to access the pdb files with wrong filenames, e.g. instead of using e.g. kernel32.pdb it tries to get the symbols for the kernel32.dll with its original name, which means that it looks for a debugging database file with the extension dll, which for sure does not exist on the server and the local system.     - SCSI Pass Through to SAS Enclosure Hi, I need to send various SCSI commands to a SAS disk enclosure connected with LSI SCSI HBA. I read the SPTI sample in DDK and realize I need to use CreateFile with device name such as \\.\PhysicalDrive0, \\.\scsi1: to get a handle of the device and then use the handle in the SCSI_PASS_THROUGH IOCTL call to send SCSI command to the specific SCSI device.     - verifier - caller complete power irp without passing down Just wondering peoples opinions. I normally just leave verifier running for my stuff with the standard settings. I just saw the below error when the system was sitting idle. My driver is a WinXP SCSI miniport (so both my miniport and the scsiport are being "verified".) Though I return IPV6 capabilities in the MiniportQueryInformation, still NDIS does not seem to enable the IPV6 checksum offloads in the MiniportSetInformation call.     - BDA driver and MS Windows MCE Hello, I have a problem with developing BDA driver for MS MCE. First thing I did was to compile a BDA sample from MS DDK. This sample works in MS XP perfectly, but when I try to use this BDA driver in MCE it doesn't work I'm trying to run Media Center in MCE and this application can't find this BDA sample driver to receive TV.     - .INF setup fails using syssetup.dll, setupapi.dll, OK with Hardware Hi: Where is some documentation on the differences between the parsing of .inf files between the Hardware Update Wizard and installing .inf files using either syssetup.dll or setupapi.dll? The .inf file in question installs successfully (manually) with the Hardware Update Wizard, but fails with either of the dll methods. This happens to be the onboard NIC driver, so for an unattended install it's rather important to get this installed first, since there's no default Windows XP driver for the network. (It also does not install from the right-click context menu, but that is known since this is a pnp driver, not a service install) There is no [defaultinstall] section in the .inf file, and it has been extracted from a larger integrated setup.exe for nVidia motherboard drivers. I've hooked the .dll lines into the relevant part of the .inf for the specific hardware I'm using, and it runs from there. But then there is the error #E047: Setting registry/key value: no root specified followed by #E065 and #D064 errors that seem to cascade from the #E047 error. I can use devcon for this as a last resort, but I'd rather identify the reason for the discrepancy in parsing the .inf file first. It seems the recommended method is to store the data in the WDFFILEOBJECT's device context. However, when new data arrives from my device, the driver needs to examine and potentially update each integer that is unique to each file handle. Therefore, I need some way to enumerate all open WDFFILEOBJECTS. Is this possible? If not, my alternative would be to store a hash map or linked list containing all of the WDFFILEOBJECT handles and their corresponding integers. This map/list would be stored in the device context of my Device Object and updated in EvtDeviceFileCreate and EvtFileCleanup callbacks. Are there some built in data structures for hash maps or linked lists that would be helpful for implementing this? I'd prefer the first approach (enumerating the WDFFILEOBJECTs) so that I can let the framework manage the map between file objects and integer data. Any other solutions are welcomed.     - My AVStream driver can't show video with YUY2 format in AMCAP Dear All, I use avshws sample to write the video capture driver for my PCI video capture card. I can show YUY2 video with graphedit. But when I use AMCAP or AMCAP2, the video will show up first time when the AMCAP is executed. But if I open the Video Capture Pin property and choose the same YUY2 320x240 mode, the AMCAP window just show black display. However, if I drag the AMCAP window to outside of the desktop area or overlap by another window, the AMCAP will update one or two frames. If I drag the AMCAP window and move continuously, the video frames will update continuously. It's quite strange. I have no idea what it related in my code.     - Video properties cannot be set in Vista I wrote a video capture driver for our company's usb webcam device in Windows 2000 many years ago. In Windows XP, the video capture driver still works, however, in Vista 32 bit, video properties cannot be set in amcap, skype, or Yahoo! messenger. The property settings(capture filter) box does not pop out in these applications, not to mention chaning the properties. MSN Live messenger works as previous, and I can change brightness, contrast or white balance for our webcam. The default usbvideo.sys driver from Microsoft is tested against our webcam for cross-validation, and it does not have problem mentioned above. Therefore I know it's our driver's problem. I think the possibilites of the causes includes: 1. There are some "hidden" SRBs in Vista that our webcam driver does not handle. 2. MS secretly change the GUID of PROPSETID_VIDCAP_VIDEOPROCAMP in Vista, thus applications does not know our webcam supports video property settings. 3. Our driver does not follow new AVStream architecture and DirectShow does not support it. (I hope not, or I have to rewrite our driver) However, all of these cannot explain why MSN Live messenger still works. I wonder what is the true cause of this problem? I just tried to followed the suggestions in the thread: http://www.techtalkz.com/microsoft-device-drivers/296063-virtual-smartcard-reader-not-listed-scardlistreaders.html That included starting with the pnp smartcard driver sample from the WinDDK 6001 and remove the pnp stuff. So I tried to uses the initialization routines from the nonpnp kmdf driver sample (same DDK). I stuck calling the essential function: WdfDeviceCreateDeviceInterface(Device,&SmartCardReaderGuid,NULL) which returns 0xC0000010, STATUS_INVALID_DEVICE_REQUEST. Unfortunately I cannot find out why this happens cause the WDFLOG command "!D:\WinDDK\6001.18000\bin\x86\wdfkd.wdflogdump TSBTCS" returns: "Could not find TSBTCS in wdfldr client list" From a newsthread I read something about non pnp drivers not allowed to call WdfDeviceCreateDeviceInterface. Is that true and can anybody give me a clue to come around this?     - 2008 RC2 driver fails to start Hi, I have a driver / inf file combination that loads PCIX and PCIe adapters for 2003 32bit 2008 32bit 2003 64bit But will only load PCIX adpters for 2008 RC2. For PCIe adapters the last call I get is Scsiport/StorPort Initialize that I return 0. I would expect a call to my findadapter routine but it never happens. I am using a driver that was made before I joined the company and of course the guy who made it left since... It looks like the blue screen is quite random.     - RDP and HID devices Hi, I'm working on supporting an ePad USB (electronic signature device) device from Interlink Electronics on WinXP pro and Win 2003 server platforms. There is a software given along with the device for testing. This USB device belongs to HID class (deviceclass - 0x03, deviceSubclass - 0x01, deviceProtocol - 0x02). When I plugin the device to a standalone pc and open the application, everything works fine. Now if I do an RDP to this system and try to use the same application over RDP- 1) On XP pro systems, it successfully opens a handle. However HID data is not shown by the application 2) On Win2003 server machines, the same application works fine!! Is there any known problem with HID devices when I do an RDP on XP clients? I want to see some callstack information with the procmon on a appliction i am testing. I could use a debugger for this, but i want to run it without a debugger. For whatever reason the procmon does not show symbol information. I use the ms symbol server with this path: C:\Programme\Debugging Tools for Windows\Symbols* http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols It works fine for my Debugging Tools from MS and other Debuggers, but procmon does neither load nor download any symbols from the server. The ms WinDbg does on the system but procmon not. What could cause this situation? Procmon says "Loading Symbol Module for xyz.dll/sys, etc,.." and then nothing happens. I still only can see the module and the offset address, but no function name and address, as said only address,...     - Unable to set/call Completion routine in USB Driver I am writing a USB driver, while doing bulk transfer, i create the URB (with correct parameters), make the IRP_MJ_WRITE pending, set the URB as part of the same IRP and send it down to the next driver (usbhub.sys). The lower driver returns a STATUS_PENDING, but it never calls the completion routine, which means, it is unable to complete the IRP.     - WPP-like API in User Mode ETW ? OK, so I understand that: * ETW is Event Tracing for Windows (technology). * WPP is the PreProcessor (a tool used with this technology). There is an excellent sample demonstrating the use of WPP (toaster.c). It helped me implement WPP in my driver so that I can now view trace messages in TraceView. I would like to do the same in my user mode application. I found the documentation and sample (TraceDp.c) for ETW in the Platform SDK. I figured out how to RegisterTraceGuids() and implement the ControlCallback(). I could even see how to use: TraceEvent(LoggerHandle, (PEVENT_TRACE_HEADER) &UserEvent); But... I don't like this TraceEvent API. I very much prefer the WPP API which provide an "intuitive" interface like: ToasterDebugPrint(ERROR, "function failed (%x)\n", status); However, I couldn't find anywhere a sample or documentation that could help me take a shortcut from TraceEvent() to MyDebugPrint(). So I am wondering: is there a WPP-like API/interface for user-mode applications? If so, where do I find it? If not, how do I get from TraceEvent() to MyDebugPrint() so that it can be displaed using TraceView? If I understand correctly, in order for ETW trace events to be displayed in TraceView, I need to "publish" my "Event Schema". You can use this function to print ur debugging messgae. if u r using windbg
kernel mode debugging than u can see these message during debugging.
