 - iscsi setupdi - how do I get port number? When I use SetupDiGetDeviceRegistryProperty with SPDRP_LOCATION_INFORMATION I get the string "Bus Number 0, Target Id 0, LUN 3". How do I get the port number? Yhy is that information not returned for devices? For non-iscsi (regular scsi devices) I have the same problem as above. However I can get around it by using SPDRP_PHYSICAL_DEVICE_OBJECT_NAME. This returns something like "\Device\Scsi\sym_u32Port5Path0Target5Lun0". I parse this for port, path, target & lun. Unfortunately this solution fails miserably for iscsi devices. For iscsi devices something like "\Device\0000006f" or "\Device\00000070" is returned which makes absolutely no sense to me! My corresponding scsi & iscsi devices are located at Port 5, Bus 0, Target Id 5, LUN 0 (scsi) Port 7, Bus 0, Target Id 0, LUN 0 (iscsi) Port 7, Bus 0, Target Id 0, LUN 3 (iscsi) I find the documentation on setupdi apis & their usage examples incomplete.  - Hardware Physical Address Registers This may be a bit off topic, if you find it to be too much so, please direct me to the correct place... The hardware guys that are designing a pci express device for which I am writing the driver want to conserve some space on our ASIC (surprise, surprise). I have informed them that it would be beneficial if our ASIC's DMA controller had a 64 bit host address register so that our device can perform a DMA to memory above 4GB. Their solution was just to add 5 bits to the register to allow the ASIC's DMA engine to address up to 128 GB of memory. I am concerned that the LogicalAddress returned from AllocateCommonBuffer will someday give me an address that does not correspond to the physical memory address. It could give me something greater than 128GB, even though there is not 128GB of memory installed, a logical bus address is, after all not necessarily fixed to the physical address of the memory. So do I need to instruct the hardware guys to give me a host address register than can address the full 64 bit address range, or is their solution of just addressing 128GB acceptable?  - attaching to multiple device objects Hi, I have a driver where I want to attach to multiple device objects (targets). Has this been done before? Once attached to the various targets, my driver will get all IRPs destined for them. I want to 'process' some of these the IRPs (READS, WRITES, IOCTLs. etc.), but not all of them. So... when I determine that I don't need to handle an IRP, how do I determine which of the target device objects to pass it on to?  - ZwSetValueKey and registry replication in MSCS Hi, I'm using the win32 reg function: ZwSetValueKey (from my driver) to set a key registered with a cluster resource. According to Microsoft documentation when a change to the local registry is made the checkpoint on the quorum is updated as well. Can I assume that the registry write and the quorum update are synchronous? I mean - if the ZwSetValueKey returns success can I assume that the data was already written to a checkpoint on the quorum device? or the quorum may be updated in a later time? Thanks.  - Help wanted for video driver. Hi there, I have an unfortunate combination of a Samsung LCD display (710v) and an Asus mainboard with an integrated SiS 661 video adapter. The display is designed to work at 1280x1024 60Hz and it works perfectly on other video cards. The SiS 661 video card works perfectly at 1280x1024 with other CRT monitors. When I try to use them together the maximum resolution available in the Windows XP settings is 1024x768. If I erase the SiS driver Windows will start with his default VGA drivers which allow me to use the display at 1280x1024 but the graphics are slow. I tried to download and install several drivers from SiS and Asus and also to reinstall Windows but I always have the same result. I also unsuccessfully tried to install different monitor drivers to try to make the video card think it's a normal CRT display.  - Question about Driver Package Installer Version 2.0 I'm using DPInst.exe to install a PnP driver, it installed the driver seemed OK, and everything works, but in Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel, I have noticed it uses up to 3746.00MB, that's about 3GB!??, my driver is a very small, it's about 12KB. I also noticed, when the driver is first time installed, I tried to the open Add or Remove Programs, it takes a long time to open it, it seems swap stuff to the disk, due to the large size.  - BDA / AVStream Unique Medium ID Hello! I have got a problem improving my bda device driver for multiple instances. The driver represents a tuner and a capture filter. These filters are connected through a specific medium. Since the filters are constructed by static structures there is no possibility to change the Id member of the medium structure for each device-instance. According to the msdn there is a possibility changing this Id member by using the KsEdit() function. I have tried to edit the Id member wihtin the Create-Pin-Dispatch-Routine, but this doesn't work. It is possible to connect the filters even if the medium is completly different from each other. It seems like that the KsEdit() must be applied earlier than within the CreatePinDispatcher. Has anybody done this before, or is there an easier way? Unfortunately there is only very little information / sample source code available. Thanks very much for any help / hints!  - remap a kernel mode driver. Hello All, Is it possible to remap a whole kernel mode driver(.sys) or a part of it (particularly read only portions) and make the system aware of it? There should be a way the system finds address (image base) of a loaded driver in a kernel space memory region. If I remap a driver then how would I let the system know about it?  - Timeout Implementation I have a USB device and WDM driver I've developed with heavy borrowing from Oney's book. The device sends data to the host PC using a bulk IN pipe. The driver buffers this data until requested by the User code. I'd like to implement a mechanism whereby the user code can request data, but if it's not available, it can can block up to a programmable timeout delay, until the data is available. This seems like a common need, but I'm unsure how to implement it. Should the timeout be implemented in user or kernel mode? It seems I could do it either way. The method I'm considering is: The user code makes the request via an IOCTL If data is available, then the data is returned, with a STATUS_SUCCESS. If no data is available, then the IRP is cached and STATUS_PENDING is returned. The user code completes if STATUS_SUCCESS was returned. If STATUS_PENDING was returned, then the user code calls WaitForSingleObject with the desired timeout When data is available, the IRP is completed with the data and STATUS_SUCCESS If the user code times out, then I would cancel the IRP (Is there a risk of a race here?  - Ignoring ASSERT w/ Chk Build + WinDBG Is there a way to ignore certain assertions that end up in a DbgPrompt and WinDbg requesting input? I'm using XPSP2 and a checked hal, kernel and filter manager. I want the assertions from the filter manager and some kernel assertions but I also get ones for doing things that I don't care about. For instance, copying files from a cmd prompt on the debug target to setup my debugging session causes a boat load of assertions in MmIsNonPagedSystemAddressValid like the following... *** Assertion failed: MmIsNonPagedSystemAddressValid (MemoryDescriptorList->StartVa) *** Source File: d:\xpsprtm\base\ntos\mm\iosup.c, line 2939 Break repeatedly, break Once, Ignore, terminate Process, or terminate Thread (boipt)?  - Flight mode not working Hello everybody, I have a problem with the Flight mode GUI on the Windows Mobile device. It seems to have no effect at all. Can somebody please let me know how does the GUI work. What are the .dll calls made by the GUI internally all the way down to the miniport driver. Also the there is a system\power control panel applet. This has a wireless tab. It lists down all the radios on the device. My device doesnt list the wireless radio.  - DeviceIoControl's BytesReturned shows 0xCCCCCCCC In one of my DeviceIoControl, the BytesReturned is always 3435973836 (0xCCCCCCCC). In the driver I set the value of Irp->IoStatus.Information to 4 and I have verified this value many times. For this i am building an IRP for pnp and minor function code of query devices. Now when i send this IRP to lower device in AddDevice function by making a call to IoCallDriver then this function don not return me success. I have taken the GUID_I2C_Interface as interface type , and size is of I2CINTERFACE. In IoCallDriver function i have taken pdo as the pdo i get in function call of the AddDevice. can any body tell the reason as why this IocallDriver is failed. Hope to get the solution. Hi All, I found the "devcon" sample of DDK sample which can restart any device of the machine, for example TYPE the following console command devcon restart USB* will restart all USB devices and USB host controllers in the machine, mean while you could see the "refresh" in the device management window. I port the code segment I need to my original MFC project and compiled correctly. however it did not work even the relative API(ex: SetupDiCallClassInstaller) return SUCCESS.  - Security Digital Card standard driver in Vista Beta Dear all, The SD card standard driver in Vista beta version is different from the one in XP. One of the differences is the programming way of Normal Interrupt Status Signal Enable register(please refer to SD Host Controller Standard Specification). In Windows XP, those bits are always set, but in Vista just two bits "Transfer Complete" and "Command Complete" Signal Enable are set. So the SD standard driver in Vista will miss the DMA Interrupt Status and Signal, unless DMA Interrupt Status is set and is got together with Transfer Complete Status by driver. In my case, for our SD host controller operation the DMA Interrupt Status is later than Transfer Complete Status a little while. When SD driver gets Tansfer Complete Status and at the same time DMA Interrupt Status is not set, it never gets the interrupt from DMA Interrupt Signal because the relative signal enable bit is always off. I think always turn on all Normal Interrupt Status Signal Enable registers is a better idea, will the SD driver be improved in Vista future version?  - SCSI device mapping Hi all, We have an application (written in C/C++) for management of SCSI storage devices. Through this application, we are creating a logical drive (LD) using two physical disks and this LD should show up in the list of volumes in Windows. The job of exposing the newly created LD to Windows is done by the device driver for the RAID controller. So after this is successfully done, one can right click on My Computer, then Manage -> Disk Management, and can see the new LD there. The problem is, in some cases (that is, for some version of the application) this newly created LD is not getting exposed to Windows. To reiterate, the application as such does not expose the LD to Windows (it is done by the driver). But we noticed that with the same driver version, a different version of the application causes this problem. So the problem _might_ be with the application. In particular, the device driver does not get any error, but is not receiving READ/WRITE/READ_CAPACITY calls for the LD created. Is this possible to happen because the application is doing something wrong (perhaps, locking up some resource)? Under what situation can such a thing happen? The system is a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition with Xeon processor. Any help is appreciated. If this is not a right forum for this topic, please direct me to the right one. Thank you.  - Multiple pending IRPs causes other thread to block. I'm currently implementing a packet capturing intermediate driver. One of the IOCTL I have set up is a request to capture a packet of a certain type. In my case, IOCTL_CAPTURE_PACKET is METHOD_BUFFERED, not overlapped and contains UINT of EthernetType to capture. This IRP is pended until a packet meeting the requirements is seen at which point the IM driver copies the packet content into the SystemBuffer of the IRP and completes the IRP. I also have IOCTL_CANCEL_ALL_PENDING_IRP and IOCTL_SEND_PACKET which cancels all current pending IRP's and sends a packet out respectively. In my initial tests my application side program was a series of cmdline executable that simply called DeviceIoControl() with the correct IOCTL code. Later I moved it to a Win32 Application with threads. This is where my problem began. A single pending IRP blocks the entire application form making further IRP requests. My question is this:- do I need to use Overlapped? Can I open multiple handles to the adapter instead (I am about to try this, fairly sure it will work but not sure if that's the best solution) Any help, is always appreciated! Thank you!  - Udp sending performance in Gbit Ethernet Hello, This topic has been previously discussed in win32.programmer.networks, but no clear solution has been found. It seems that when sending UDP packets at maximum speed, the throughput of the sending drops significantly when the payload size is increased from 1024 to 1025 bytes. This seems to be connected to the NIC interrupts in some way, it seems like that 1024-byte packets can be sent at full rate, but 1025 byte packets only once per interrupt (and per sending application). I write a WIA micro driver for our MFP Scanner.After I install it,
the My Computer window cannot open,all I get is flashlight indicating
"Searching for items...". And I find in Knowledge Base 819017,MS provide
some solutions that are stop WIA service or unplug the device. But this
cannot solve the real problem.

So,my question is how to sovle this problem in my WIA micro driver?
