The 'Phone and modem options' in the controlpanel have stopped working. I've
traced it to the 'Telephony' service that will not start. I gives a 1053
error telling me that the service could not be started. To my knowledge
nothing changed in the configuration. The OS is W2K Server (english version).
Untill now WinFax has always worked without a problem (simple modem connected
to COM2), now it will not work anymore because of these errors. Any idea what
could be wrong ?

Wim,
This newsgroup is geared more towards device driver developers.

Try updating your modem drivers. If that doesn't help, uninstall the modem
drivers. If that doesn't do it, reinstall Unimodem/V
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q139383/). There should also be an entry
in the event log (Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Event Viewer. That
might give you more info as to why the service is failing to start.

Hello Floyd,

Thanks for the response.
Sorry, but I could not find a more suitable newsgroup for this question. If
you know a better one, please let me know.

I've already deinstalled and reinstalled the modem with the latest drivers.
When you go into the 'Devicemanager | Modems' and you select 'Diagnostic'
and click on the 'Query modem' the modem will give a response and it makes
sense too! Re-installing Unimodem is more a Windows95 thing and not W2K.

In the event logs there is no info about this.

It looks like the TAPI layer is corrupted .

The strange thing is that I also get errors telling me that there is
already an installation going on: "You can only install one device at a
time". I could not find any info about this in the KB.......
