In order to get SoftICE to work with Win2k SP4 you will need to get an
updated siwvid.sys file from our website. I would suggest signing up for to
our list server to get notifications when these type of updates become
available. To sign up for the list server send an email to
DriverStudioNLS@compuware.com you'll get back an email on sign up
information.
As for support for beta/alpha OS' we do support most, if not all, of these
releases. You will need to get an update data file from our website that
contains the "layout" of the OS as SoftICE sees it. If for some reason we
do not support a beta/alpha of the OS that you need we will usually add it
within a very short period of time. To make a request for a particular beta
or alpha send an email to driverstudioeng@compuware.com and state that you
need an update osinfo.dat file and provide the details on the operating
system. In the near future I plan on providing a set of utilities that will
automatically create this file for you so that you will not need to download
the file from us.
To support new betas/alphas, no updates to SoftICE are usually needed, just
an update to the data file. The latest data file can always be downloaded
from ftp://ftp.compuware.com/pub/driverstudio/outgoing/OsInfo/OSINFO.DAT and
if you are working with a beta OS at
ftp://ftp.compuware.com/pub/driverstudio/outgoing/OsInfo/OSINFOB.DAT. Save
these files to your \winnt\system32\drivers and then reboot if SoftICE is
running.
And as always if there are problems you are encountering with SoftICE,
please let us know so that I can fix them. One of our and my strongest
beliefs is that a debugger has to work 100% of the time perfectly. We don't
always hit that mark, but I believe we come pretty damn close.
Thanks
Chris
