    - CreateFile fails when UAC is enabled. I have a WDM version of a driver for a PCI board. I have ported it to KMDF and built it with KMDF1.5. The original WDM driver loads fine on Vista32 and the application also runs well even with UAC enabled or as a non-administrator user. But with the new KMDF version driver, I get following issue: When UAC is enabled or I run as non-administrator user, the application gets 'Access Denied' error for CreateFile call.     - Regarding SDIO CID Hi, I have to read in an application the CID of the SDIO card. The SD card is connected to the desktop through USB. Is there any way to do this in application? (CE supports a DeviceIoControl code for this if I remember) Or, if there's no device IO control code supported, can it be done in a driver? (In XP, I think we can open the SDBus interface and post a SDB request packet to send the command to query the CID, if I am correct. But in 2000, SDBus interface itself is not supported.)     - Access device on LPC bus? Hi, I'm trying to work out how to access a device on the LPC bus (via ICH7). The device in question is the system BIOS. I need to be able to read the entire contents of the BIOS flash device directly from the device. I know how to read the run-time, decompressed BIOS image from system memory, via the SMBIOS pointers.     - Problem with NdisMEthIndicateReceive - not receiving data Hi, I am developing network adapter to transfer TCP/UDP packets from the ip layer (through the ndis driver) to the com port to other remote PC and vice- versa under the WM5 using the VS2005 and Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC SDK. Before sending/receiving data, I set the ARP entries of the remote PC statically. The problem is when the remote PC is sending data and the PDA receive it and pass it to the NDIS driver through the function NdisMEthIndicateReceive and the function NdisMEthIndicateReceiveComplete, the data didn't pass to higher protocols above the ip layer and the applications whic uses the tcp/udp which wait for the data, didn't receive any of it. I have a little application which displays all the adapter installed on the PDA and the binding to the relevant Protocols and i notice there is no problem of binding, since the adapter is bind to the TCPIP, TCPIP6 and NDISUIO protocols. I checked several posts of that problem and notice about the OID_GEN_CURRENT_PACKET_FILTER I checked that value and it gave me the value 11 (0x0000000B), my tries to change that value didn't suceed, so maybe that the problem, or maybe not since i can see that the adapter is binding to the TCPIP protocol.     - Authenticode driver signing for win2003 & Error 0x800b0109 Hi, I am trying (with no luck) to sign my driver usign authenticode cert I've bought from verisign. The driver is intended win2003. The driver is signed properly and passes signtool.exe verify check. But when I try to install it on win2003 machine in server-mode install I get the following error: Error 0x800b0109: A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted by the trust provider.     - WinXP USB BULK mode High speed We have a scenario as follows using BULK mode: - High speed USB device that provides MPEG2 TS. Device has 2K FIFO. - Stream rate is approx. 32 Mbit/s, so we see an IN token in about 7000 out of the 8000 microframes per second. - Our USB client driver is queuing up 8 requests, then requeueing 1 on Bulk complete, to make sure there is always a request ready for Host Controller. - The driver is requesting 564 bytes( 3 * 188) at a time. Problem: - Some microframes come back to back from Host controller without an IN token and we lose MPEG2 data from the device, since the device overflows its FIFO.     - Save all the dump files Hi, We are getting a series of system crash sometimes and I donâ??t want to lose any crash dump since it represents a bug. So we set dump â??overwriteâ?? flag to 0 in registry to save the first dump. When the system comes up, with the help of a small application (starting automatically), rename the .dmp file with a timestamp. This is working fine and saving all the subsequent dump files (max of 7 dumps by considering the memory). But sometimes the driver is getting crashed while loading and that is before savedump.exe completes itâ??s copying from pagefile to dump file. So the previous crash dump is lost. Please let me know any graceful way of delay the driver loading if the savedump process is running or any other idea in this scenario to save all dump files?     - PCIe 64b addressing under Vista. Hi list, I'm porting a driver to support PCI express devices. Under 32 bits OSes (i.e. WinXP and Vista 32b) its work fine. Its work fine too under Vista Ultimate 64bits, but every transaction are still using a 32 bits addressing mode. The driver is compiled via "build" utility under "Windows Vista and Windows server Longhorn x64 Checked build environment", and I checked that DMA tranferts are 64b enabled : I set to "true" the field Dma64BitAddresses of the DEVICE_DESCRIPTION structure. (BTW could someone explain me the meanning of Dma32BitAddresses and Dma64BitAddresses fields ?) >From the device side, 64b addresing mode is activated in BAR register, and device manufacturer certified me, the device is 64 bits ready. My machine is a standard Dell precision 380 with 1Gb RAM. Does Vista need more than 4Gb RAM to activate 64b addressing ? Any ideas, or hints ?     - Signability Warning: Missing HWID I am trying for the first time to generate a Catalog (.cat) file for a driver package based on the MSVAD sample. I am using Signability v2.19 for that (on Windows XP). The test is passed (with some warnings) and the Catalog file is successfully generated. However, I am puzzled by the following warning: 22.9.3 WARN: Windows XP: Missing HWID (cannot have just compatid) in line "%msvad.devicedesc%=msvad,,*msvad_ in section [msvaddevicesection] of \msvad.inf Now... I know that the HIWD is missing. But that's what Microsoft placed there - probably for a purpose. So my questions are: 1. Do I really have to have an HWID (aka DeviceId in Oney's book) in the device description statement in the .inf file for the cat file to be signed? 2. Will the driver load/work if I put there an HWID? (it loads and works perfectly *without* it - just as Microsoft intended). 3. What is the rational behind leaving the HWID field blank?     - Windows CE 5.0 Stream Interface Driver I have written/modified a CE driver to access a quad serial Uart (specifically an Exar 16C8541). What appears to be working is the ability to transmit and receive with the driver on a given serial or COM port when an application requests to do so. What does not appear to be working is the ability to open more than one serial or COM port at a time. Example: If COM1 is open COM2 fails to open. If COM1 is closed then COM2 will open. Any clues as to what I may be doing wrong? Attached is debug output for CE initialization of the driver (in this case only COM1 and COM2). I have placed debug info for all functions in the driver yet when I try to open the second COM2 port simultaneously with COM1 I see no driver activity whatsoever. Additional Info: There is only one physical interrupt for all the Exar COM ports. The kernel is sending debug data through one of three serial ports built into the processor (Cirrus EP9315) - Platform builder has the driver removed for the remaining 2 built in Cirrus serial ports so they do not conflict with the COM naming convention used for the Exar part (Only the Exar seral driver is in effect in the registry). Any information as to why only one port opens would be greatly appreciated.     - DPInst and virtual drivers (e.g. MSVAD) I am trying to understand from reading the DPInst WDK documentation to which category a virtual device driver would fall: a "device that is configured in the system" or a "nonpresent device"? The documentation reads: "DPInst checks whether the hardware identifiers or compatible identifiers in the INF file match a device that is configured in the system or match a nonpresent device." Since in a virtual device driver there is no hardware involved (i.e. no "device that is configured in the system"?), it is tempting to think that DPInst would be dealing with a "nonpresent device", right? But when I install a virtual device driver (e.g. MSVAD) manually, using Control Panel's Add Hardware, I am first prompted by a question "Have you already connected this hardware to your computuer?" - to which I must answer "Yes, I have already connected the hardware" or else the driver will not be installed...     - Strategies for High-bandwidth Isochronous USB with AVstream minidriver Hi All, I'm trying to implement a video capture pin that uses the Process dispatch to queue frame buffers. It then uses a separate thread to take a frame from the queue and initiate a frame read into it. The read completion routine does a KsPinAttemptProcessing call to keep the leading edge buffers coming. The frame buffer queue is 5 deep. The pin runs for about 20 frames before the calls to Process start to fall behind and there are errors on some of the iso packets. GPT provides a more flexible mechanism for partitioning disks than the older Master Boot Record (MBR) partitioning scheme that has been common to PCs. The problem is that the our client fails calling the DeviceIoControl() function with the ioctl IOCTL_DISK_GET_PARTITION_INFO for a GPT partition. It is obvious that the extended ioctl IOCTL_DISK_GET_PARTITION_INFO_EX should be used here. According to MSDN (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa365180.aspx) the IOCTL_DISK_GET_PARTITION_INFO_EX control code is supported on basic disks. It is only supported on dynamic disksthat are boot or system disks, or have retained entries in the partition table. The DiskPart.exe command RETAIN can be used to do this for other dynamic simple partitions.The disk support can be summarized as follows. When I call IoGetDeviceObjectPointer I have an error. It returning STATUS_INVALID_DEVICE_REQUEST all the time. I check and re-check with devicetree, my device exist.     - Can't install kbfiltr.sys Hi, I'm not sure this happened ever before. At least I didn't found anything: I can't install kbfiltr.sys with the standard kbfiltr.inf! Yes! The DDK kbfiltr! I modified the kbfiltr driver a little, but did nothing to the .inf file, If I install it over the device manager, for the ps/2 keyboard, it tells me it can't copy any files which are already there. That seem to be the files from keyboard.inf which are included in kbfiltr.inf: kbdclass.sys and i8042.sys. Of course they are already there. And if deleted they get immediately restored by the Windows File Protection. And I think I _need_ keyboard.inf. Since it's a keyboard filter driver. And the include instruction was _always_ in the .inf file. How comes this strange error? I mean: on another PC it worked! Also with Windows File Protection on. The installation worked and I got all the right registry entries. And since it's a pnp-device-filter there are much more entries than just the things under "\Services". You don't want to make them all by hand. Any ideas why this is happening? What's wrong with my Windows XP SP2 (all patches included)? I am able to load the driver ... the DeviceAdd function is called for this device (function 1 - function interface code is 0) on the sdio card. DeviceAdd returns status_success ... however the PrepareHardware function in never called and the driver is unloaded. Questions : 1. What could prevent PrepareHardware from being called ? Is it because the function interface code is 0 ? 2. Is there any debug support in the sdbus host/link libaries to help figure this out. ?
