    - BITSPIXEL bug in Postscript drivers It looks to me as if GetDeviceCaps(hdc, BITSPIXEL) always returns 1 if the driver is the Microsoft Postscript Printer Driver (Pscript, implemented in pscript5.dll). This occurs in Win2k and WinXP. I believe that this bug is referred to in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;87349, although it mentions only a couple of printer models.     - Route table for dialups Hi, Our company is developing an intermediate filter driver implementing Mobile IP. There is one virtual adapter (called "Home adapter") in the system that serves as Mobile IP tunnel entry point and all packets sent to it are encapsulated into MobileIP tunnel and sent using filter driver to one of physical adapters. All packets that are sent to physical adapters from windows are blocked by filter. In order to get it work correctly windows tcpip must route all packets to Home adapter. Its not hard to do it if there are only connection-less adapters, but when there is dialup connection dialed we have a problem. No matter how the connection has "use default gateway" flag set - tcpip always adds a routing rule for this connection the only difference is whether its mask is 0.0.0.0 or 255.0.0.0. We need to delete this rule every time the connection is dialed. It works but not everywhere. It seems that Windows XP SP1 machines have problem with the deletion of such rules. "route delete" command that works on SP2 does not work on SP1. Is it some bug in tcpip or route table ?     - Enabling a device Hi: I'm having a problem programmatically enabling my "Local Area Conection". I've got the NTDDK and have compiled the "Enable" demo. If I disable the device using the demo, then re-enable it using the demo, everything seems to work. But if I use Network Connections, right-click on my "Local Area Conection" and click "disable", then use the demo to re-enable the NIC, the "Local Area Conection" does NOT become re-enabled.     - XP USB driver stack/lost bytes on bulk transfer Hello I loose bytes ( some multiple of 64 bytes ( =MaxPacketSize ) ) with Windows XP SP1 on a Gibabyte PC 566 MHz ( single CPU ) with a VIA chipset ( USB 1.1 HC ). The following happens: My USB device driver sends 'read' urbs down the stack ( reading a picture ~1.5MB from scanner ). USBD_SHORT_TRANSFER_OK ist set and MaximumTransferSize ist default ( 4KB ). If i read the image with urb->UrbBulkOrInterruptTransfer.TransferBufferLength=64 bytes, some 64 byte-packets get lost in lower drivers. When TransferBufferLength is set on some higher value ( multiple of 64 ) the image is transfered correctly. Tests: Tested some ( faster ) ASUS pcs with Intel chipset -> No problems. Downloaded and installed the latest USB hotfix -> No changes. Wrote a filter driver 'lower' my driver -> Yes, bytes get lost when requesting 64 bytes. Wrote a 'HC debug driver' permanent checking the HC registers -> HC never reports errors ( did not check transfer descriptors ). Counted bytes on USB analyzer -> The whole image is transferred. Activated debug outputs in my driver -> OK, also when TransferBufferLength=64! Changed internal flowings in my usb driver to be faster -> Bytes get lost on TransferBufferLength=64 AND TransferBufferLength=128 ( OK, on higher values )! Tested my own NT and OS/2 drivers on that motherboard ( the image is transferred twice faster than under XP ) -> OK. Used checked build versions of the XP usb drivers -> did not see any errors reported in windbg, but i'm not very experienced in that. I know, that VIA has ( maybe had? ) some special 'features' implemented in USB ( in contrast to Intel ), but for me it looks like a bug in the XP USB driver stack; maybe some 'timing issue' ( the faster the usb device driver, the more bytes it must request each urb!? ). I have sorted out that the problem is only due to UI Plug-in dll because it gets install fine if I remove UI dll and just use gpd. Pls. let me know how I can find what is going wrong.     - UsbVideoClass YUV formats don't work Hi All. I am developping USB Video Class device. Our device will support YUV2 Format ans Isochronous image stream. I choiced Payload umcompressed format. I tested this device by AmCap and GraphEdit. When I clicked AmCap, AmCap said this Graph can't preview. When I clicked GraphEdit and was connecting Our device unit and a display rendere unit, following error message box appeared and I was able to connect these units. These filters cannot agree on a connection. Verify type compatibility of input pin and output pin. ( return code : 0x80040217 ) I found VS_PROBE_CONTROL(GET_CUR / SET_CUR) requests by USB Analizer. But I didn't find VS_COMMIT_CONTROL(SET_CUR). I guess there are in inconsistency YUYV Format/Frame Descriptors or Endpoint Descriptors. But, I can't find.     - XP SP2 WDM driver - Sharing Memory between driver and application : Hi all, I have to confess... I'm almost translating my application from Windows to Linux just because I can't make a WDM driver for my PCI card... Help me, please! I have a motion control PCI card that can command 2 motors. That card generate interrupts. I have an application and an old driver (VxD) working very well with Windows 98 SE, but now I'm trying to make a WDM driver for Windows XP Professional SP2 because Microsoft is not selling Win98 anymore. In my new WDM driver, the communication with the PCI card from the driver and from the application (I pass an address from the driver to the application, so the app can communicate directly with the card) is tested and working fine. The interrupt service routine (ISR) is working very weel too. The only big problem is that I need to share 10 buffers between the driver and the user app (velocity, aceleration, etc). Those buffers can't be swaped to the disk and some of then are 1MB length, and one is 9MB lentgth. They are filled with velocity, aceleration and other information by the application, and the driver fill some buffers with other kind of information. My PCI card has no memory, so I have to make use of "user buffers" (created in the app) or "system buffers" (created in the driver). The most important thing is that those buffers MUST be used (read & write) inside the ISR, at any moment, as weel as the buffers MUST be accessed (read & write) from the user app at any time (of course, not when the driver is inside the ISR). The app must be running all the time because it needs to get events from the user to communicate the driver to start or stop listening to interrupts, so it seems to me that I can't return STATUS_PENDING with METHOD_DIRECT (can I?). And the two big questions are: 1. Is that realy possible? (Are you sure?) 2. How? I've been reading all the posts about this subject from all lists and years, since Jan.2004 to this day, and I couldn't find a way to get that driver working ok. I also have the Viscarola & Mason "Windows NT Device Driver Development" book... Good help, but couldn't sove the problem. Can you help me? Thanks a lot. Paulo. From the DDK documentation, title "Registering an Isr": To register an ISR, a driver's DispatchPnP routine must call IoConnectInterrupt when it receives an IRP_MN_START_DEVICE request. In response, the I/O Manager creates an interrupt object for each processor that the device can interrupt. In a previous thread, I had gotten several suggestions about which parameter to IoConnectInterrupt was causing it to fail with STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER, but none of them helped. The code worked OK on single processor systems. If the affinity argument (extracted from the translated resource list in the start device IRP) indicates that more than one processor can be interrupted, how does the I/O manager return a pointer to multiple interrupt objects? I'm watching the debug output from the driver and I see that it gets called whenever a TCP connection is made, but although it passes the IRP down to the lower device successfully (at least, I think it does) every connection attempt failes with error code 10022: bad format thing.     - Modem Device Class under Enum\Root:Unable to Communicate to COM Port Hi All, I have written a lower filter Modem Class Driver that attaches to all the Modem Devices on a system.It behaves just like serial.sys. It works fine with all modems,except a certain LG Phone that connects via the Serial Port.In this case,I am unable to communicate with the COM Port (COM1) below and get the same message : "Port Disconnected" (C000037) in my NT Status codes whenever I try to send a Set Wait Mask or Get Modem Status via my driver using IOCTLs. On inspecting the device tree I noted that this phone installs as mdmgen288 ,under the Root/Modem Class. It also has its LowerFilters set to ROOTMODEM. Anyone has any ideas on why this is not working? I am stumped.I went through other google groups/the web/ddk for more information and I am really at my wits end.     - UNIDRV IOemUni::ImageProcessing Question I am confused about how to use the bBlankBand variable in the ImageProcessing function. When the print driver is banding, bBlankBand will be 1 for the first band and then 0 for the remaining bands. The documentation says that if it is 0 then the data is invalid. But I never receive any further calls to ImagePricessing with bBlankBand set to 1. As a result I only get the top portion of the image. Do I have to do something else to get the remaining bands rendered? I am using the oemdll example in the DDK. When the driver is not banding then I get the whole image in one shot but higher DPI's force me to deal with banding in ImageProcessing which I can't seem to get to function correctly.     - IoConnectInterrupt Hello All, My driver testing has progressed to a multi-processor system, and now IoConnectInterrupt fails with status 0xc000000d (invalid parameter). I am using XP w/SP2. This all worked on a single processor system. The parameters I get in the start device IRP are: vector: 0xa4 irql: 9 affinity: 0xa4 mode: 3 shared: FALSE I think the bad parameter is the affinity. I double checked that I was getting vector from u.Interrupt.Vector, and affinity from u.Interrupt.Affinity. Is there some magic I need to do to connect an interrupt on a multi-processor machine?     - Windows Update causing problems with Cypress FX2 development board Hi all, I would like to warn the Windows Cypress FX2 USB development community about and bring to Microsoft's attention a very annoying problem that I had this morning. I plugged in my Cypress FX2 development board (CY3681) and Windows went searching for drivers for it, because between today and the last time I used the board I had uninstalled the USB 2.0 host controller in order to force renumeration of previously-installed USB devices on my system the next time I plug them in. (This is something I do from time to time during development to make sure that my development devices enumerate properly.) Anyway, Windows found the proper .INF file and installed the correct driver... then promptly went ahead and installed a DIFFERENT driver, one for a 'Sperling USB HDTV' device! I assure you I have never installed any USB HDTV drivers on my system. Ever. I went looking through the .INF files and found an entry in one of the oem##.inf files (in my case oem18.inf) there was an entry with the SAME VID and PID as the development board! It looks like some hardware developer was building a prototype with the FX2 sans EEPROM and let the development board's VID and PID slip into the .INF file. I removed the offending entry from the .INF file, did the aforementioned uninstall trick on the USB Host Controller, plugged in my development board, and got the SAME RESULTS. This time, however, the offending entry had been written to a brand-new .INF file. I tried removing the .INF file altogether the second time and the same thing happened. Many different combinations caused the same thing to happen. Whatever I tried to do to force that entry to be gone was undone. I had a colleague look at it and he suggested that it might be picking up the information from Windows Update. So I unplugged my network cable, uninstalled the USB Host Controller again, and plugged in my FX2 board, and it worked. I am not really familiar with what happens with Windows Update behind the scenes. I would first of all like to know what was happening, if in fact the .INF file entry was getting picked up from Windows Update, and, if so, if there's a way to prevent this in the future. (I have auto-updates turned off, but I know my company pushes periodic updates to my machine.) Secondly, it seems very bad to me thata vendor is shipping an .INF file with the same VID and PID as another device from another vendor. For reference, the entry appeared on my machine in oem18.inf. The first few lines of the file mention USBHDTV.INF and 'This file contins installation information for OnAir USB HDTV, An MPEG2 WDM capture driver that requires hardware'.     - HID Joysticks and Win98 I wrote a WDM HID minidriver to create a virtual joystick. Problem is that the joystick does not show up in the game controller control panel app of Windows 98. The device manager, however, shows the HID-compliant game controller device create by my driver. Since it works fine in Windows Me/2000/XP, I suspect that my HID report descriptor cannot be parsed by Windows 98 (I noticed that the WinMe implementation is somewhat picky in that regards, whereas 2000/XP takes about anything), but I am not positive on that. I wonder if somebody has a working report descriptor (joystick or other type of game controller that shows up in the control panel app) that is known to work with Windows 98 and is willing to share.     - Notifications in Printer Driver Hello All, I developed universal mini printer driver which prints a image rather than output to a printer. I used a rendering plug-in and some GPD files. I need to compress the image created. I have some existing library to do this. I need to do some loading and unloading of objects and other stuff at various print states. My question is which component should i implement to get the notification of the following print states: starting a job, ending job, cancelling job, start doct, ending doc, start page, end page. The rendering plug-in implements OEMStartDoc, OEMEndDoc, OEMStartPage, OEMSendPage. Is this the correct component to handle my requirement? I did not find any job related routines in rendering plug-in. Which component should i implement for print job related status like start,end and cancelling a job? The current DDK does not provide any information concerning the interface between the Windows host controller driver (e.g., usbport.sys under WinXP) and the minicontroller drivers (e.g., usbuhci.sys). What i want to do is sort of what in pure WDM land would be said to be as : "open the driver in asynchronous mode , and send an ioctl from app to the driver and inside the driver do not call IoCompleteRequest UNTIL sometihng interesting happens . I am writing an application which needs to retrieve the USB Serial Number
from a printer connected to the system. I have access to the Printer Queue
name, and hence I also know which USB00x port (generated by USBPRINT.DLL)
that it is connected to.

What is the best strategy to use to get the printer's serial number?
Would there be any difference in this strategy depending on whether the OS
is Win98, Me, 2K, or XP?
