    - Error calling method INetCfgClassSetup::Install after upgrading to VS 2005 Hello All, We are facing an exception while calling Install method as below. The exception says: "An Exception occurred while trying to run "Shell32.dll, Control_RunDLL "C:\Program Files\XFrame\Protocol\xconfig.cpl"" Later it crashes with message "The instruction at ... referenced memory at ..., Memory could not be read. Click OK to terminate the program". While debugging the following error messages are printed in the Output window while executing the Install method: First-chance exception at 0x7c82a36b in rundll32.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0xfdfdfdfd.     - How to read contents of DMA scattergather list within driver conte Hello - Can anybody tell me how to read the contents of a scatter/gather list created in a WDM driver? In this case, the scatter/gather list is created with GetScatterGatherList(), and later freed with PutScatterGatherList(). I would like to read the contents of this list as soon as possible after it has been filled in by the hardware, before the IO Manager returns the results to the calling application. When I try to read the contents of the scatter/gather list just before PutScatterGatherList() is called, I get a IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL bug check. When I try to read the contents of the list within the context of a worker thread later on (to avoid the the above bug check by executing at a lower IRQL), I get a memory access fault. Trying to read the the virtual address of the user buffer associated with the MDL of the IRP request causes a memory access fault because that address is not valid within the context of the worker thread. As yet, the only way I can read the results of the scatter/gather operation is from a user buffer in the calling client application. The device doing the DMA access is DIRECT_IO (not buffered). The target system is WindowsXP. Any pointers would be very much appreciated. Robert Cohn Tektronix, Inc.     - Strange error possibly because of code in driver entry I had a previous thread about the way to make a corect message for IRP_MJ_READ, so if you read it u know that I am making a file system filter driver based on the sfilter exmaple from the WDK from Microsoft. For those who don't know sfilter, it attaches to all the volume devices, and processes the IRP's as pass throughs. The problem is that whenever I write some code in the driver entry, except the existent code, code like calling a function or something it has something to do with the code later on and I don't understand why. for example I have a function called NTSTATUS GetFileObjectFromPathEx( PDEVICE_OBJECT DeviceObject, PUNICODE_STRING Path, PFILE_OBJECT *FileObject, PHANDLE FileHandle, IN ACCESS_MASK DesiredAccess) which give u the file object for a file by a given path, by sending the request to a specific Device. the thing is that when I call this function in my IRP_MJ_WRITE dispatch routine the function works great, every time, I have no problem using it. well when I call the funtion in driver entry, just for testing I mean, the things change later on. In my IRP_MJ_WRITE I need to get the file name for the current file and compare it I use RtlCompareUnicodeString If I don't call GetFileObjectFromPathEx or other functions made by me in driverentry, the comparing goes smoothly, but if I call this function or any other function that calls some api like: IoCreateFileSpecifyDeviceObjectHint or ZwCreateKey or ZwQueryValueKey the code crashes in the RtlCompareUnicodeString If i comment the rtlcompareunicodestring in my dispatch routines and also call the functions in the driver entry everything goes smoothly. Why does this happen. How should I make my initializations. . . I close all the handles I open in the driverentry and dereference all objects if I reference any, so I have no memory leaks that could affect in the future.     - Anyone successfully used DDK to compile user mode components with Hi! I have a few user mode components and I want them to be shown with XP visual styles. The drivers and the user mode components are usually build with the DDK in the same build process. To enable visual styles I followed the rules on http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms649781.aspx but the UM components are still shown old fashion. If I ship a separate manifest file for the control panel applet then I have visual styles but this way doesn't work for shell extensions. I'm sure that the manifest file is embedded into my binary because I can see them with a hex editor. The manifest file is included like this: CONTROL_PANEL_RESOURCE_ID RT_MANIFEST "<name>.cpl.manifest" or ISOLATIONAWARE_MANIFEST_RESOURCE_ID RT_MANIFEST "<shellex>.dll.manifest" In both cases I've called InitCommonControls() and in the second case I've added ISOLATION_AWARE_ENABLED as C_DEFINES into my "source" file.     - Wait problem in UVC filter driver Hi all, I am developing a class upper filter for webcam devices. It has to wait for a event in read stream completion routine. I used KsWaitForSingleObject() to wait and set time out is 0.1s. However, I found that the read stream completion routine function is called with DISPATCH_LEVEL in UVC device, and in PASSIVE_LEVEL in non- UVC device. This results BSOD when calling KsWaitForSingleObject() with UVC device. So my question is: how can I wait for a event in filter driver for UVC driver? What results the IRP level different? (spec. driver informations) i see in the devmode struct the field "dmFields" and "dmDriverExtra". I tried using the version that comes with WLK/DTM on PassThru (NDIS IM sample) and got a BSOD while running 1c_wmicoverage. I think this test is assuming that the miniport is an NDIS 6.0 driver and obviously, PassThru is not.     - WDK 6000 compilation issue I developed a kernel driver and a user mode dll. I use two sources file and dirs file to compile both driver and user mode dll in WDK environment itself. I have no problems till WDK 5112. When I used WDK 6000, I cannot use user mode dll anymore. Applications when trying to load user mode dll give exception "The procedure entry point _except_handler4_common couldnot be located in the dynamic link library msvcrtd.dll". I compile both dll and driver in WDK console window in Windows XP debug build. Free build works fine. I think my user mode dll is getting linked with some version of msvcrtd.dll that is not compaitible. Same problem even with windows 2000 build. What is the correct way to solve this ? Should I include some library path? 2) How will I know which library path is used in WDK console? How will I know which library was used to link with my dll.     - Problem with NdisMEthIndicateReceive - not receiving data Hi, I am developing network adapter to transfer TCP/UDP packets from the ip layer (through the ndis driver) to the com port to other remote PC and vice- versa under the WM5 using the VS2005 and Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC SDK. Before sending/receiving data, I set the ARP entries of the remote PC statically. The problem is when the remote PC is sending data and the PDA receive it and pass it to the NDIS driver through the function NdisMEthIndicateReceive and the function NdisMEthIndicateReceiveComplete, the data didn't pass to higher protocols above the ip layer and the applications whic uses the tcp/udp which wait for the data, didn't receive any of it. I have a little application which displays all the adapter installed on the PDA and the binding to the relevant Protocols and i notice there is no problem of binding, since the adapter is bind to the TCPIP, TCPIP6 and NDISUIO protocols. I checked several posts of that problem and notice about the OID_GEN_CURRENT_PACKET_FILTER I checked that value and it gave me the value 11 (0x0000000B), my tries to change that value didn't suceed, so maybe that the problem, or maybe not since i can see that the adapter is binding to the TCPIP protocol. So we set dump â??overwriteâ?? flag to 0 in registry to save the first dump. When the system comes up, with the help of a small application (starting automatically), rename the .dmp file with a timestamp. This is working fine and saving all the subsequent dump files (max of 7 dumps by considering the memory). But sometimes the driver is getting crashed while loading and that is before savedump.exe completes itâ??s copying from pagefile to dump file. So the previous crash dump is lost. What appears to be working is the ability to transmit and receive with the driver on a given serial or COM port when an application requests to do so. What does not appear to be working is the ability to open more than one serial or COM port at a time. Example: If COM1 is open COM2 fails to open. If COM1 is closed then COM2 will open. Hi, I have to write the driver, which will be monitoring all network activity (all protocols) and get PID (identity of the process) which is directly responsible for that.     - DPInst and virtual drivers (e.g. MSVAD) I am trying to understand from reading the DPInst WDK documentation to which category a virtual device driver would fall: a "device that is configured in the system" or a "nonpresent device"? The documentation reads: "DPInst checks whether the hardware identifiers or compatible identifiers in the INF file match a device that is configured in the system or match a nonpresent device." Since in a virtual device driver there is no hardware involved (i.e. no "device that is configured in the system"?), it is tempting to think that DPInst would be dealing with a "nonpresent device", right? But when I install a virtual device driver (e.g. MSVAD) manually, using Control Panel's Add Hardware, I am first prompted by a question "Have you already connected this hardware to your computuer?" - to which I must answer "Yes, I have already connected the hardware" or else the driver will not be installed...     - Strategies for High-bandwidth Isochronous USB with AVstream minidriver Hi All, I'm trying to implement a video capture pin that uses the Process dispatch to queue frame buffers. It then uses a separate thread to take a frame from the queue and initiate a frame read into it. The read completion routine does a KsPinAttemptProcessing call to keep the leading edge buffers coming. The frame buffer queue is 5 deep. The pin runs for about 20 frames before the calls to Process start to fall behind and there are errors on some of the iso packets. When it reaches this "stable" state, Process is called at approx 17ms intervals. The iso read is for 14x24K for a full frame so it should occur at 14ms intervals. Should this approach work?     - IOCTL_DISK_GET_PARTITION_INFO_EX on Dynamic MBR data Hi, At present time our customers are widely using the GUID Partition Table (GPT). GPT provides a more flexible mechanism for partitioning disks than the older Master Boot Record (MBR) partitioning scheme that has been common to PCs. The problem is that the our client fails calling the DeviceIoControl() function with the ioctl IOCTL_DISK_GET_PARTITION_INFO for a GPT partition. It is obvious that the extended ioctl IOCTL_DISK_GET_PARTITION_INFO_EX should be used here. According to MSDN (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa365180.aspx) the IOCTL_DISK_GET_PARTITION_INFO_EX control code is supported on basic disks. It is only supported on dynamic disksthat are boot or system disks, or have retained entries in the partition table. The DiskPart.exe command RETAIN can be used to do this for other dynamic simple partitions.The disk support can be summarized as follows. Disk type IOCTL_DISK_GET_PARTITION_INFO IOCTL_DISK_GET_PARTITION_INFO_EX Basic MBR Yes Yes Basic GPT No Yes Dynamic MBR boot/system Yes Yes Dynamic MBR data Yes No Dynamic GPT boot/system No Yes Dynamic GPT data No No So, I am concerned about "dynamic MBR data" which is supported by IOCTL_DISK_GET_PARTITION_INFO but is NOT supported by its _EX version. I'm a printer driver designer and I have a problem with the unidriver.

Indeed, apparently, Unidriver has been changed in the KB934238 fix.

My driver was working fine before this, but now, the OEMSendPage is not even
called in my OEMunidriver... Which results is wrong printout...

Anyone has an idea on why I have such a behavior, and how to correct it?
