    - Driver verifier querys in windows xp 1.I am using newly driver verifier for testing my driver in windows xp.I first install my pci card. 2. Then go to driver verifier check the option pool tracking for checking whether i release all the resources when i am unloading the driver. 3.Then select my driver, for verifying.Then it is aking for rebooting. 4.I reboot it. 5..After that windows is continously rebooting, without giving any blue screen. 6.Then i shut down the machine, remove the card, once agin i boot it. I dont know why it is happening, i am using the tool correct, or my driver is problem, i dont know. In windows 200 1. I test same driver as previous steps; it will not rebooting, after i select the option in driver verifier, reboot once. next time automatically boots. I dont know what is that problem. How can I get a pipe handle to an endpoint ? In most of cases, you can get them while choosing a configuration, by calling USBD_CreateConfigurationRequestEx. The problem is that my device has one configuration, several interfaces, and my filter driver is installed for only one of them. So I can't use USBD_CreateConfigurationRequestEx.     - How to implement the pending mechanism between KM and UM hi all, I am trying to implement a packet capture driver in DDK. Unlike netmointor, I hope the driver could capture the packet to application real-time. So I implement an event, generated by driver, to indicate the application to get the captured packet from driver. In order to reduce the overhead in keeping the captured packets, I use a buffer pool in driver to contained the packet temporarily before application read them. However, if the pool is full in the heavy traffic cases, the extra packet will lose. I find NDIS uses a PENDING state in its receive path.     - Update PCI Latency Hi, I'd like to know how can I change the current PCI Device Latency of connected devices? I experience that most of modern graphic adapters have a very high pci latency value which causes problems on other PCI devices like USB chipsets etc. What I want to do is to offer an option to reduce the PCI latency of such devices. Now my questions: - How can I do this? I found some structures and API calls that mention these things, but I wasn't able to build me a proof-of-concept. - Is that propery way to manage this at all or should this be a task for the graphic adapter manufactureres (all of them)? The thing is that a lot of customers complain about instability of their PCs concerning high bandwidth/low-latency USB devices and quite often (more than we expected) the solution seems to be to decrease the PCI latency of the graphics adapter from 255 to 128 or 96. I experienced this with some of my firewire devices, too.     - SetupDiBuildDriverInfoList problem with USB bluetooth? Hi, I need ti enumerate all USB bluetooth dongle with a particular VID/PID. We have our usb driver (not signed) and we also use the widcomm bluetooth stack. The bluetooth dongles are also compatible with the Windows XP SP2 stack. The main problem is: -I try to retrieve all the compatible driver for this dongle using SetupDiBuildDriverInfoList() -> it works. - Then I try to get the currently installed driver (by changing the device install params and calling again SetupDiBuildDriverInfoList()) -> it works only the first time. After that it says "no more items" I've checked with the Hardware manager and I've found that the Bluetooth device's icon changed and displays the "WinXP bluetooth icon" -> But the widcomm or our driver is still loaded and working! If I re-install the drivers, the icon goes back to the normal one. But as soon as I call again SetupDiBuildDriverInfoList() on this device, the icon change back to the WinXP bluetooth icon! This is not the case on a bluetooth device with a VID/PID not compatible with the WinXP stack. How can I avoid this problem? To reproduce this problem, it's simple: - Install a bluetooth device compatible with the WinXP stack using a other bluetooth stack (Widcomm for example) - Check the icon with the Hardware manager. - call SetupDiBuildDriverInfoList() on this device using default dev_install_params. - Refresh the hardware Manager and you should see the device with a new icon! Interrupt service routine not executing after some interrupts generation Hi Everybody, Our PCMCIA 16 bit PC card(with WDM driver) is generating Interrupts properly and in the Interrupt service routine we are servicing immediately. If we does not service the interrupt then our device will stop generating interrupts. After some time Even though our device generated interrupt but ISR is not invoking. In this case we are not able service the interrupt becase ISR not executed. Then our device will stop generating interrupts. This kind of problem is coming when I move mouse or if i use keyboard. In IoConnectInterrupt routine Iam passing TRUE for Sharable interrupt parameter. What could be the problem? Is it a sharable interrupts handling problem? Please guide me. Thanks in Advance. Mahinder.     - IFS Minifilter Question: RxIsThisTheTopLevelIrp assertion failure I am writing a replication filter driver as a "minifilter." In my CreatePreOp callback, I open a handle using FltCreateFile(...) at a different location. During the read callbacks, I read the different location as well. Every once in a while, I get the following assertion failure right in the middle (at least it seems to be the middle) of my ReadPreOp callback *** Assertion failed: RxIsThisTheTopLevelIrp(NULL) *** Source File: d:\xpsprtm\base\fs\rdr2\rdbss\ntfastio.c, line 100 Just before this assertion fails, it appears that the buffer in the request (Data->Iopb->Parameters.Read.ReadBuffer) is NULL. As far as I know, this buffer should not be null if the Read.Length parameter is not zero. google searches for either of RxIsThisTheTopLevelIrp or ntfastio return no results. I am trying to add/remove "page dialogs" under "case PROPSHEETUI_REASON_INIT". I am NOT concerned at all about "OPTITEMS". I can successfully add my CUSTOM page dialogs using CPSFUNC_ADD_PROPSHEETPAGE, as shown in the "UI Plugin" example. Is this the correct way to add my custom pages? Should I be using CPSFUNC_ADD_PCOMPROPSHEETUI instead? Also, I would like to remove the two page dialogs that seem to show up automatically; page dialogs with names "Layout" and "Paper/Quality". I intend to replace them with custom pages that do something similar. The device(printer) property sheet page dialogs seem to work fine; I use function "IOemUI::DevicePropertySheets" for this case.     - Unsigned Virtual Driver - Multiple Instances Hi, I have a unique virtual NDIS Miniport driver which essentially creates virtual NICs in the sytem. Because of a no of reasons i will not be able to get this driver signed. This poses a problem in driver installation. Firstly i know that i will get the Unsinged Driver warning popup message (if the user has behaviour set to warn). My problem is that i want multiple virtual NICs that can come and go at any time. ( i have a virtual bus driver that creates PDOs whenever i want). Now if i have the NIC installed for 1 instance, when the 2nd NIC shows up Windows again asks where to install the drivers from. Why is this happening? I already have it installed and the 2nd instance shall just use the driver being used for 1st instance. This happens even if i turn the setting to ignore WHQL signatures. Also during installation the whole N/W stack for the 1st instance is tore down and driver is unloaded and reloaded (i guess since it copies a new driver file - happens even if i refuse to copy driver file). Basically i want the instances of the NIC to some and go silently without asking for installation again and again. (Although once i install 3 instances, they come and go silently but the 4th one again asks for driver). I cant go thru manual installation of 16 Nics in the begninning.I Dont even know how many will be enogh. Can a finite no of instances be installed at inital set up without even creating PODs for each one of them?     - ZwCreateSection Hi All, I used ZwCreateSection() to create a section object in a kernel mode driver and tried to open the section object using CreateFileMapping() in windows. The problem is that both the driver as well as application will be updating the shared memory. So, when I tried to open the shared memory with FILE_MAP_WRITE specified in OpenFileMapping(), it returns win32 error code 5 (access denied). It succeeds with the FILE_MAP_READ access. If I use ZwClose() in the driver to close the section handle, I am able to use in the user-mode application. Is there any way I can specify in the kernel mode driver to make it possible to the user mode application too to write to the shared memory? I may be missing some flags in ZwCreateSection() or ZwMapViewOfSection() or InitializeObjectAttributes()?     - Filtering disk IO when Windows hibernates Dear gurus, Could you advise how disk IO requests Windows 2000/XP sends during hibernate (or crash file dump) process can be filtered? In more detail, the problem is in the following. We work on software that transparently encrypts sectors on physical disks. My disk IO filtering driver works fine except the moment when Windows hibernates or writes crash dump file to disk. At that moment Windows does not use a regular well-documented stack of layered disk drivers. Instead, the operating system calls disk miniport driver directly. (Probably it would be more correctly to say - after sending IOCTL_SCSI_GET_DUMP_POINTERS Windows loads a separate copy of the driver and uses it for writing sectors.) As a result, our filtering driver cannot filter and encrypt the sectors Windows writes during the hibernation process. If someone knows how to filter these disk IO requests, the advice would be greately appreciated.     - problem with mixed bpp system In a multi-display system where the primary display is in 32-bit mode and all other displays are in 8-bit gray mode (non-palettized, linear), the display driver provides DrvBitBlt that will convert 32/24-bit source to 8-bit destination using NTSC weighting. Most drawing to the displays goes, as expected, through DrvBitBlt. However, not all code path seemed to go through that. Specifically, clicking the right mouse button on an 8-bit display and then selecting "Refresh" leaves a rectangular region that is rendered differently, using Windows' own way of converting 32/24-bit to 8-bit. Similar artifacts show up when pop-up descriptions pop down in the main file area of the windows explorer. Interestingly, the pop-up descriptions popping up for items on the left area (system Tasks, Other Places), do not leave any artifacts. How can one avoid those artifacts? This driver does lot of initialization activity in DriverEntry routine including creating device object. After researching the MSDN, I got to the point where I have to provide an IFD handler so that the Windows Resource Manager can access the smart card device, and that IFD handler is basically a Windows device driver. The smart card vendor provided a DLL that contains an API to access all the device functionalities, so I'd like to develop that IFD handler on top of the smart card vendor API.     - Mono print quality issue Hi, I have written a unidrv based printer driver for a USB printer. When I print a mono document at 600 dpi the quality differs for two prints. The text quality is differing in two outputs with the same printer driver. In one print the text are of good quality and are dark black and in second print the text printed are too light (grey colored). I have disabled the color optimization by setting dwColorOptimization (of ATTRIBUTE_INFO_*)to NO_COLOR_OPTIMIZATION in the call to the UI plug-in's DrvQueryJobAttributes function. (BUY I suppose this should not affect the quality of the mono print) Please suggest if there is any way to get the good quality consistently.     - USB audio delay path Hi there, I am currently writing a USB audio filter and found out that the there is a random delay in the following audio path, data out (USB's ISO OUT packet) --> speaker --> microphone --> data in (USB's ISO IN packets).     - USB idle request never completes Hello I'm writing a driver for a non-composite usb device with 3 interfaces. At some point the driver puts the device in selective suspend (idle request + wait wake). After that I try to shutdown the system (S5). When the driver receives the IRP_MJ_POWER to set system power state S5 it cancels the idle request. IoCancelIrp() is called on the idle request IRP but the completion routine is never called.     - Monotholitic printer driver and CPSUI Hi NG; I'm facing the problem, that I after several Add & Remove of CPSUI pages , the General, Sharing, Ports,.. and so disappear. My Gui of my virtual monotholitic printer driver shows several pages depending on the actual driver configuration. The problem is that after some Add's and Removes of the same page the above mentioned Standard pages of printer properties dialog disappear. I've tried all documented solutions of CPSUI and printer drivers without success.     - Legacy SCSI miniport installation Hi, I've just built a legacy SCSI miniport which works fine but when I install it using the .inf file, Device Manager says that my driver failed to start and shows an exclamation sign, even though it did start. After reboot DM shows 2 SCSI adapters based on my driver: one with my own name and an exclamation sign, and a generic one working properly. I need to say that my driver doesn't use any hardware resources but I put some in the .inf file, just in case. The interface is ISA. Has anyone met this problem before?
