    - read from virtual comport Hi, I have a program that writes/reads a virtual comport. Writing is ok. Reading always returns 0 bytes. (the connected device is sending stuff continuously) The read uses standard windows API, CreateFile / ReadFile. Commtimeouts are set. I tried every combination of options for the above mentioned functions. Hyperterminal & teraterm DO receive data from this port. A Hid-code-sample I have opens the port in the same way I do.     - Unable to Pend IRP on ISO Read (IN) pipe I need to pend an IRP on the ISO IN pipe with a completion routine, which will get invoked when the driver below (USB) has some data on the pipe. My problem is that i have been unable to pend an IRP (Created using IoAllocateIrp) on the ISO read (IN) pipe. I have tried with the sample provided in DDK (\WinDDK\6000\src\usb\isousb\sys) as well as the sample provided by Walter Oney (\Samples\Chap12\usbiso\sys). I am using the alternate setting number 5 provide by my device on interface 1, wherein the maximum packet size is 0x33 (51) bytes. Whenever i call to IoCallDriver to send the IRP to the next driver below, i get a failure with code 0xC000000D(STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER). If at all the call returns STATUS_PENDING, the completion routine for the sub IRP's is getting called. Any help in this regard will be great. Thanks in advance.     - Linking a dll or a lib file developped in C++ using Visual Studio Hello, I'm programming a virtual miniport driver that has to redirect every network packets to a windows service. To use this service, I need to link my driver with a library that was originally developped with Visual Studio 2003 in C++ language. My driver is written in C language.     - 32-bit HANDLE in 64-bit driver Hi, I had used following technique in communication user-mode app <--> driver: User app passes event handle to driver and driver retrieves pointer to object body with help of ObReferenceObjectByHandle() . Driver then signals some events to user mode application with KeSetEvent(). Problem is: Currently I have 32-bit user mode app which communicates with 64-bit driver. When 64-bit driver reads 32-bit HANDLE (32-bit number) passes from user-mode, can it simple make conversion like: HANDLE h64Bit = NULL; h64Bit = (HANDLE)h32BitFromUserMode; ?     - Need assistance with DPinst Hi, I am working on the automation of the driver install for a USB connected device. I don't have any experience with driver install, and hope that I can get some help from this forum. The device connects with USB and only has a .inf file. The driver itself is usbscan.sys. Currently when the device is connected a 'new hardware device detected' wizards pops up. To install it, we now have to follow a manual process. In the manual process I get a warning that the driver is not signed. I would like to automate this with a installer. I think that DPInst is the tool I could use for this. See below the data of the .inf file. I have tried the DPInst with the legacy mode argument (/lm) and then is says that the driver is installed, but it does not appear in the hardware manager. I am testing the installation on a Windows XP machine.     - how to correctly install a NDIS IM from your app? hi. currently i'm doing SetupCopyOEMInfW() for each inf file, then issue a NetCfgClassSetup::Install() for the pnpid of my service (not miniport) component. it works fine on all systems in the test environment (2000, xp, vista home) except for one Vista Business Edition installation at one of my friends -- NetCfgClassSetup::Install() returns SPAPI_E_NO_DRIVER_SELECTED. am i missing something? or is that vista business installation somehow corrupt?     - Crash dump User account pain I am using Windows Vista business edition 32-bit for driver development. When system crashes, memory dump file is created. But I cannot open it with my windbg. I have to go and add my user account by going to file properties. I tried to move dump file to another directory thinking that may make it easy. But it always creates file without any permission for me to open from windbg. I have to always go and add my user account. How can skip this step?     - Error 8020: Error Reading Comm Device Hi All, I have developed a USB-Serial driver. For this i have used KMDF osrusbfx2 and serial samples. I m using RS232-analyzer application for testing. This can be downloaded at http://www.232analyzer.com/CommFront-Downloads.htm. I have attached a loopback connector to the NULL modem cable and used this applcation for sending/receiving ascii data. I get the error Number 8020 and message that followed is "Error reading comm device". I have debugged the driver and i see that driver is able to write and then read the data. But the application does not receive the data. I googled the intertet for the error and found the following url. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;318784. The resolution mentioned is "A serial driver should return SUCCESS synchronously for all read requests that can be immediately fulfilled with data that is currently present". My question is the serial EvtIoRead is a void callback function, so how can i make it to return SUCCESS? One other thing i observed is i have replaced the serial inbox drivers with the serial sample provided in KMDF. I have built the serial sample and replaced it. The same error occurs with standard COM port as well. This error does not happen with WDM serial driver. Is this a bug in KMDF serial sample driver? All above tests are done in Windows XP 32 bit OS. This driver is intended for cameras which are DCAM compliant. When performing an hibernation with a camera connected, a blue screen occurs at resume.     - KeAcquireSpinLockAtDpcLevel deadlocks MPS Hello everybody, I have written a driver for a pci data acquasition card. When testing the driver on serveral processors I got a deadlock which maybe you can enlighten me on. Construct in my driver: I use a spinlock in a datastructure in non paged memory to access the data within. This spinlock is aquired in an ioctrl to register and deregister a datachannel with the card. It also is used in a DPC that is queued from the ISR to determine the data rate of all channels currently registert. The DPC does not recurse on itself and neither do the register and deregister ioctrls. The release spinlock functions are also in the correct place. The issue: When I use a AMD X2 dual core cpu the system somtimes deadlocks on the KeAcquireSpinLockAtDpcLevel (which is located in the DPC routine). Connecting with the debugger reveals the system in trying to aquire this spinlock at both cores from a DPC and deadlocks at that point. Is this normal behaviour? I thought the spinlock should always get acquired by one of the two. That is; when an ioctrl is run they run at DISPATCH_LEVEL and if an interrupt occurs, it just queues the DPC. Which in turn is run at the end of the ioctrl (since this is the currently executing code on DISPATCH level). The DPC could only be queued once and then run on one core. That's when the system can queue another dpc and could execute it on the other core right? But I just should sit tight until it gets the spinlock... I checked the DDK and several posts on forums but they all tell me I'm doing the right thing. I see in ntifs.h there's an implementation for AMD64 with a prototype for others, but I just get an unresolved external when trying to build any x86 code with this function.     - DeviceIoControl Hangs I am using DeviceIoControl to send a command to a USB device. The device answers back with some data. The problem is when I send the command to a device that doesn't support the command sent by DeviceIoControl, the program hangs on the DeviceIoControl and I have to reboot the PC to recover. The INF file is created based the template at: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb500930.aspx. The only substantial difference between my INF file and the template is that I provided the real USB\VID. The DPinst is of 2.1.0.0. The driver installs properly in Windows XP X86 machine.     - Reading AC97 CODEC registers I'm debugging some AC97 hardware, and need to read all of the registers in the CODEC periodically to see how they are set with various drivers and audio sources. I've been looking for some kind of utility that can do this from Windows.     - Custom property interface for AVStream driver I've added a custom property set to my AVStream driver, and I can access it just fine from a test app which opens the driver and calls DeviceIoControl directly to do the IOCTL_KS_PROPERTY. Next I wrote a KsProxy plugin DLL using ATL, in order to wrap an interface around the property set, and also to implement a property page. The property page comes up just fine in GraphEdt, but when it tries to query for my custom interface, it does not find it. I suspect a registration problem, since I wrote this in ATL, and Visual Studio auto-generated some of the IDL and the RGS file (shown below). The only samples I can find use the DirectShow base classes, so I'm at a bit of a loss.     - Windows XP: embedding signed driver is not report as signed in device A driver, not yet WHQL certified, is embedding signed with a SPC shows up as "Not digitally signed" in device manager view in XP machine. (both .sys and .cat files are signed) However, accessing the .sys file in computer does show that the driver has valid signature. Further more, if the same driver is installed on Vista machine.     - Driver for handling bad ram modules (like BadRAM for Linux) Hi all, My project is to create the NT-equivalent of Linux's BadRAM kernel patch (http://rick.vanrein.org/linux/badram/). Basically, it marks bad ram addresses as reserved in kernel mode so that nothing else can use them. We suppose having a list of bad addresses (built by memtest86 or so). Here are my questions : 1. Do you think it could be useful for someone (in Windows) ? 2. After reading some docs, I think I could achieve my goal by using either MmMapIoSpace or the pair MmAllocatePagesForMdl + MmMapLockedPagesSpecifyCache. What do you think about it ? Am I wrong ?     - system restart required after driver unload before installing it a Hi, I am working on a PCI device driver, Driver doesnt support power managment capability, because the device doesnt supports the same and driver supports PNP functionality. Problem: when driver uninstalled, i had to restart the system in xp-32 & xp-64 before driver installing again, where as this is not required in vista-32 bit pc. Driver installation: I am currently using DIFX tools DpInst for installing & uninstalling the driver. I also verified that my driver unmaps the resources before uninstalling the driver using MmUnmapIoSpace to unmap the PCI memory resources. Since this problem is existing only in xp, do i have to take any extra care to avoid system restart? and also, after uninstall system doesnt prompt for restart also.     - MiniportSendPackets always called with (NumberOfPackets == 1) I have an NDIS 5.1 deserialized Intermediate driver that returns 42 in response to an OID_GEN_MAXIMUM_SEND_PACKETS query. When I run the NDIS HCT (2c_PerformanceBlast, 2c_PerformanceProfile, etc) the driver's MiniportSendPackets function does indeed receive a PacketArray of 42 NDIS_PACKETs. However, at all other times MiniportSendPackets is called with a single NDIS_PACKET. This even occurs running heavy webserver tests that saturate Gigabit Ethernet. From a Google search, I see this question has been asked elsewhere over the years, but I have yet to find an answer for this behavior.     - WdfFileObjectGetFileName failing In my EvtIoDeviceControl() callback I get a file object by calling WdfRequestGetFileObject, and then call WdfFileObjectGetFileName to determine the file name that was opened by the client. The client is able to open the device and make several requests, and I am able to determine the file name each time. However, on some requests WdfRequestGetFileObject is returning NULL, and a breakpoint is being hit somewhere in the WDF library. The client is using the same handle that was used in previous requests that were successful, and the handle was not closed. I've inspected the request, and file objects, and they appear to be valid WDF objects. Why would the file name suddenly disappear from the FileObject? Thanks!     - USB Device does not respond Hi All: I have a strange problem with my USB Device/Driver. Ours is an NDIS-WDM driver. Normally Data traffic works fine. But sometimes we see that, the packet sent from the driver is not received by the H/W. We setup a completion routine and call IoCallDriver. Normally everything works fine. but sometimes what we see is that data transffered in not reached to the device and Completion Routine is also not getting called. - How different is it from NTKernel.com's Virtual Network Adapter
VirtNet ?
- Are there any sample code or sources I can build/download for
Microsoft Loopback Network Adapter?
- If not, is it the same as netvmini is WinDDK? The netvmini as if
needs two instances of it to loopback...Are there major changes that
need to be done to get netvmini to loopback with 1 instance - that's
if Microsoft Loopback Network Adapter source are not available?
