Is windows logo requirement and driver signing are same? I am not able to find how to get my driver signed. This is 1394 driver for peripheral device. This driver is on top of Microsoft 1394 stack and is designed in the lines of 1394diag.sys. All I can find is 1394 bus driver or 1394 hardware. I cant see any mention of 1394 peripheral driver. I dont understand why 1394 peripheral link is not even refered from 1394 bus driver. Someone please refer the link.     - Building a device driver non interactively Hi, Our system build has 600 components all in VC++ that are build non interactively( without human intervention) using script files running omake - OPTIONS xx.mak. Adding a windows device driver is posing problem because after the call to setenv.bat , the batch file stops executing and doesnt process commands like "build sources". If it does not receive a mdl I do an IoAllocateMdl on the buffer then I want to check if the mdl is locked. So I check the mdl->flags for MDL_PAGES_LOCKED if not I do a MmBuildMdlForNonPagedPool Does that lock the buffer/mdl? The system should not execute any program, nor dispaly any message. We would like to make the change automatically through our application, but working through a user interface would be acceptable. We have tried changing the Registry key "NoDriveTypeAutoRun" to 0xFF, as well as selecting "Take No Action" when the autorun window comes up, but nothing seems to inhibit the reaction.     - rs232 to usb2 converter problem I have an problem with the application I am currently developing and I will be very pleased if you can help. Here it is: 1 ) I have developed an MFC dialog based application using rs232 protocol to communicate with an hardware. 2 ) There is no problem with the communication with the following settings, port = com1, baud rate=115200, 8n1, no flow control. 3) When I insert a rs232 to usb2.0 converter between the hardware and the usb port (hence a virtual com port is created), a significant reduce in the data transfer rate is observed although the baud rate is set at 115200bps in my application. 4) But the data transfer rate reduction is not observed when I use hyperterminal. My question is: What Is the different handling mechanism implemented in hyperterminal when USB device is detected? Are there different API calls? My application uses createfile function to open the port (for both real COM ports and virtual com ports using usb2 to rs232 converter) . And use the same routines as if I am on a com port? Initially, I thought the IA descriptor will be returned as part of the configuration descriptor, but what I found is that the generic parent driver removed the IA descriptor from the returned configuration descriptor. Let's say in the USB device firmware, the configuration descriptor's wTotalLength is N bytes. The configuration descriptor returned by the generic parent driver is changed to (N-8) bytes, and the IA descriptor is nowhere to be found in the descriptor. Any idea know how a client driver can get hold of the IA descriptor ? What kind of URB should the driver send to obtain the IA descriptor ? In my KSPIN_DESCRIPTOR_EX, I specify a handler for the DataRangeIntersection. However, I found that during instantiation of a new Pin instance, the DataRangeIntersection handler may not be called, and the AVStream's SetDataFormat handler is called set format to the pin without any checking for the DataRangeIntersection.     - Kernel mode driver won't start I'm new to driver development so please bear with me here. I'm trying to port an existing NT driver to the current DDK. The driver was built using Compuwares DriverWorks 3.2 (originally it was running with ver 1.1). I'm not using the WDM model. I'm using the win2003 server sp1 DDK. It builds with no warnings. A) When I try to run it using 'sc start drivername' I get the following error : [SC] StartService FAILED 2: The system cannot find the file specified. B) If I try to launch it using the DriverWorks tool called DriverMonitor it gives me the error : ERROR (2): The ImagePath specified in the driver's service database entry is incorrect, or the file is missing. C) If I try to set a breakpoint in the driver using SoftIce and boot the system to see if it hits the breakpoint it never gets to it. So, it seems like it's unable to even load the driver.sys file. I've checked the registry and the ImagePath looks fine. I've built sample drivers from the DriverWorks/DDK and I can launch those drivers with no problem.     - Unknown MOUNTDEV Ioctl? Hi, I've got a virtual disk driver and I'm seeing lots of one particular IOCTL that is not listed in mountdev.h. The device type is 0x4d and the function code is 0x2.     - Calling COM objects from Print Processor Hi, I have a c# assembly that i want to execute when a print job occurs, which captures information about the print job from the Print Processor. I also need to be able to prevent the print job from continuing if certain conditions arent met. I have created the c# dll, and exported a tlb file from it to use it as a COM object in my C++ Print Processor This doesnt seem to be working, and when i debug the spool process with Visual Studio, it gets up to where it creates the instanc eof the com object, and then crashes Visual Studio, along with the spool process. There is no feedback. Can anyone help me? I have tried hosting the com object in a little test C++ app, and it works fine, so its only when its running from the Print Processor that there are problems.     - WIA Microdriver - Paper Source & Supported Resolutions I'm writing a WIA microdriver for my scanner. This scanner does not have a flatbed (ADF only) and does not support all the resolutions the microdriver support. So, while I know this may be impossible) is there anyway to set the microdriver not to have the flatbed option listed as a paper source and is it possible to restrict the resolutions the user can choose? I realize that neither or these may be possible, but I thought I'd see if anyone knew if they are or not. If they are possible can anyone point me to how to do it? My problem is that I have a USB device and an application (not coded by me) that communicate by means of a specific driver (not coded by me) that maps the device (or the usb port the device is attached to) on a virtual COM port: I need to intercept the data that the device sends to the application and change it slightly (leaving the device, the original driver and the application untouched). I started to read the DDK's documentation, and now I have the following questions ... Do I really need a driver ? [I would answer YES] Do I really need a kernel mode driver ?     - Invalid handle error in SDRegisterClient API Hi, I am trying to develop a SDIO device driver using Evc++. The target device is an imate PPC. I am not using platform builder, as i am not to use a development board, but just write a driver for the PPC device which has an OS already. My device has an SDBusdriver.dll So i am thinking that i should develop a host controller driver and a client driver. Initially i am doing an SD card Client Driver and will try to modify it from there.( Dont know if this is a good way to proceed) I am currently modifying the registry in the HKLM/Drivers/...../SDMemory_Class to replace the existing sdmemory.dll client driver with my own SD card driver called MySD.dll. I encountered the following problem in my driver code. in the xxx_init, i have called the SDGetDeviceHandle(param1,param2) API. I get the HKLM/...../SDMemory_Class path in the param2 variable and got a value for the handle returned by the API. I used the Remote tools from EVC++ and in remote registry editor i checked the active list of drivers. It showed one subkey as 'Hnd' and onemore subkey as 'ClientInfo'. The handle value got from the API is the same as the value in ClientInfo and not the one in Hnd.I expected the value to be the one in 'Hnd' and not the one in 'ClientInfo'. Is this a problem? if so how to correct it? Next, i called the SDRegisterClient(...) API with the handle returned by the SDGetDeviceHandle API as one of the parameters to SDRegisterClient. But this is causing an error, and the error code is 0xC0000006. I understand that this status implies an INVALID HANDLE. However, since the SDGetDeviceHandle API returned me the correct registry path, i think the handle must also be correct. I cant understand why the handle is invalid.     - synchronization between display driver and user mode application Hi, We're using some shared memory between user mode application and mirror driver. In order to synchronize the access to shared memory between the driver and user application we are using mutexes. When we call CreateMutex API in display driver, our display driver fails to load.(To be more precise, CreateDC API for our mirror driver fails.) Can anyone explain the reason? In windows 2k if you have a Mass Storage device and remove it from windows
without stopping the device first you get a surprise removal message.

I am able to suppress the MSD surprise removal but I cannot figure out with
a filter driver how to remove the Generic Volume message

Can anyone help?

what good does supressing the surprise removal do for you? Are you also
making sure that no data is being cached so that the removed disk is in a
valid state when it's plugged in someplace else?
