    - SDIO driver Hello world, Hope anyone can help me figuring this out: I've to develop an SDIO driver for a hardware that's is being designed at the moment. I've been asked to develop the relevant driver for PPC windows mobile 2003. Here is my questions : Does PocketPC 2003 come with a SDIO driver such that the SDIO card will work on any PocketPC 2003 device with SDIO compatible SD slot? My understanding is that so far one had to buy the BSQUARE SDIO now! kit for peripherals and write its own driver and then distribute it with the card ... Boring and Expensive! I read on the BSQUARE website that the Windows CE .NET release will indeed integrate the SDIO driver. Is that true? Does this apply for the current Pocket PC 2003 release already? I terms of software, what does it means? - should i develop just a lib? - should i develop a new stack on a already build SDIO driver? - anything else? What kind of tool i need (just eVC, platform Builder, ...)? This is a bit fuzzy for me.     - Newbie question for IoAttachDeviceToDeviceStack Hi, I'm a newbie by driver development. So I'm sorry if my question is too simple or absurd. Is it required to call IoAttachDeviceToDeviceStack routine in an AddDevice routine for a WDM driver? I'm asking this because I need (for a homework - we have a modified STUPID driver from Walter Oney) to add multiple devices in an AddDevice routine (for each found parallel port a DO of type FILE_DEVICE_PARALLEL_PORT) But I think this is against the device stack mechanism. For each DO we need to get the corresponding parallel port device object (so far I read it's parport.sys for WinXP not?) and save it in the DO's device extension. And some Dispatch routines should forward the calls to parallel port DO. But where is the device stack now? I'm adding multiple devices in the AddDevice so it's impossible to call the IoAttachDeviceToDeviceStack for each one. It means the newly created device objects will not have a PDO from them. Is this true? And what are the side effects if I don't add my device to the stack? PS: As the end result we will implement a driver for a parallel port LCD screen. Thanks for all replies.     - stream minidriver (bt848) and IOCTL Dear All, I'm using bt848 WDM stream minidriver (if you need this driver you can find it at sourgeforce). It is a stream minidriver and in the DriverEntry it obviously uses StreamClassRegisterAdapter funcion. My problem is : How to send/receive data to/from user application ? With "normal" WDM driver I use IOCTLs but in this driver there is no dispath function and in the application there is no CreateFile and DeviceIoControl (I found an application to use this driver at sourgeforce). Is there another way to exchange data with driver ? I need to send an event handle to the driver so every time the driver receive and interrupt I signal an user event and application start working (this works fine with normal WDM drivers).     - Weird Exception Hello, all. I'm having a strange problem in my WDM driver. I'm using a kernel thread to check something at 100 mS intervals with a KTIMER. The timer is allocated from the nonpaged pool when the thread starts and freed before it is terminated, and the thread itself runs for a second or more. For some unknown reason, I started getting a 0xC2 bugcheck under Windows 2K after about four executions of the thread. I'm only deallocating the KTIMER once at the end of the thread, but since 0xC2 can be generated by double deallocations, I decided to see if the bugcheck was occurring because I was allocating and deallocating the KTIMER every time the thread executed. I changed the driver so that the KTIMER was allocated when the device was created and deallocated when the device was removed, and when I did that the 0xC2 bugcheck turned into a 0x0A bugcheck. The kicker is this: I changed the driver back to its original state except that I left a declaration for a KTIMER pointer in my device extension--that is, there is space for a KTIMER pointer in the device extension, but it is unused--and I still get the 0x0A bugcheck. If I take the declaration out, the bugcheck changes back to 0xC2. One final note is this. The 0x0A exception is occurring inside of KeWaitForSingleObject(), which is what I'm using to wait for the thread to end under Win2K. 0x0A means something is ocurring at the wrong IRQL, and when the exception occurs the IRQL is 2--DISPATCH_LEVEL. Just before KeWaitForSingleObject() is called, I did a KdPrint() that showed the IRQL as 1--APC_LEVEL. Has anyone run into a problem like this, or does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.     - user-mode audio DLL installation Hi, I have written an user-mode audio driver. I am facing problems in getting it installed. The user-mode DLL contains both audio and video. Video driver is getting installed properly and recording applications can detect it as a video capture device. But I am doing something wrong in audio installation. I added the registry keys in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32 wave1 = <mydll.dll> drivers.desc = "My driver desc" Also, I read Walter Oney's post regarding this. "A audio card needs an additional DefaultInstall section to trigger a special MS setup program. The program adds some registry entries that SYSAUDIO needs to find in order to properly enumerate your device. The in-box INF files show what's required in this respect." I'd like to get the value from Bank1 (reading temperature) for example. I guess one needs to use the index register 295h to activate read from Bank1 through 296h.     - Question about modifing the NDIS packet? Hi everyone, I am trying to modify the NDIS packet. Do i need to allocate new buffers? I want to modify the destination IP address. I am doing the address mapping, if i receive data for specific destination, i want to redirect that data to go to another IP address. Do i need to allocate new buffers, copy all the data from old packet, modify it and then send it again. Can i do the following? 1. Query the NDIS packet. 2. Get the Virtual Address. 3. Modify the Header, with new IP and checksum. 4. Allocate new packet from my own pool. 5. Copy all the header information and OOB data. 6. Send that packet again. Can i use the same buffer and packet.     - Adding a Driver that's a part of 2000/XP Good day, I'm trying to automate the installation of a custom print monitor that will just use the "Generic / Text Only" driver that is included by default with Windows and then bind my custom port monitor to that. I've done enough research to figure out that I could do something like AddPort AddMonitor AddPrinterDriverEx AddPrinter and it seems it will work as long as the right files are copied in place prior to the install and I perform the correct enumerations to watch out for duplicates first. My problem is at the AddPrinterDriverEx step: Since the driver I want to use is a part of the default windows 2000 and XP install, how can I trigger the functionality that would look in the drivers.cab and pull out the correct driver if it's not already installed?     - AttachedDevice vs. AttachedToDeviceObject In the sfilter sample of the IFS there is an element of the device extension that the filter creates called AttachedToDeviceObject. Inside the DeviceObject structure there is a guy call AttachedDevice. Both are PDEVICE_OBJECT. Now why does the sfilter sample need AttachedToDeviceObject if the other already has been defined? Clearly there is a difference because I'm running into a situation where I rely on AttachedToDeviceObject to call to IoCreateFileSpecifyDeviceObjectHint , and therefore avoid getting called back on my own call. But I find that after I make this call , which appears to return successfully, I cannot use IoCreateFile without things breaking up. In the case where they do break up , I find that AttachedDevice element of the DeviceObject in question is 0, yet the AttachedToDeviceObject appears valid.     - Ne2000-compatible driver Hi, I am developing BSP for MIPS based platform. I need to enable CETK which in turn demands a fully functional Ethernet port. For this purpose I need to bring up my on-board Ethernet port which is neither PCI based nor ISA based. It is mapped through IO controller. I added Ne2000-compatible driver from drivers->Networking->LAN devices from Catalog and set the environment variable 'BSP_ICS' in my platform settings. Since the registry entries corresponding to this driver have been added in platform.reg, I expected the driver to be loaded at boot-up. But I am not able to see any debug string on console which were given in Ne2000Initialize() function of the driver nor am I able to see the corresponding dll loaded among system modules loaded. There are couple of doubts I have: 1.. Is there something else to be done which I am missing? Some registry entries or environment variables? 2..     - Out of order packets from NDIS IM Hi All, DDK says: MiniportSendPackets receives an array of packet descriptors arranged in an order determined by the caller of NdisSendPackets. In __most cases__, the intermediate driver should maintain this ordering as it passes an incoming array of packets on to the underlying miniport driver. An intermediate driver that modifies per-packet information or OOB data in incoming packets before passing them on to the underlying driver might reorder an incoming array. Now what is this "most cases". Is it the case when "intermediate driver that modifies per-packet information or OOB data in incoming packets", or any IM driver (i.e. one not modifying the packets) ? In IM driver, in MiniportSendPackets routine I am cloning the packets (only TCP/UDP packets) and sending them after some processing. I may have to send the packets out of order due to the processing needs. Will everything work fine ? (I was thinking it must work fine, since IP (on which TCP/UDP rides) is capable of receiving packets out of order.) Any comments will be appreciated.     - Problem using EngSetPrinterData in user-mode Dears, I'm building cosumized dll using unidrv model (oemdll example). I used SetPrinterData and GetPrinterData in the UI dll it worked fine, GetPrinterData also worked fine in the customizaion dll of the graphics engine.     - 1394 Async Write STATUS_IO_TIMEOUT Hi, I have to perform an async write to an IEEE 1394 bus device. The device 'stalls' the response until it completes the operation which is triggered by the write request. Currently this takes aprox. 270 ms. But it seems that the 1394 bus driver stack of W2k Prof. SP4 completes the transaction prior by returning STATUS_IO_TIMEOUT. (After approx. 200ms.) Under WXp SP1 I could not observe this behavior so far. Are the corresponding timeout values defined in the IEEE 1394 bus spec.?     - Shared memory issue between driver and application Hi all, I am newbie for driver programming. I created a shared memory in driver program using ExAllocatePoolWithTag, the last parameter is the address a string "ADDR". Then I tried to access that shared memory from one application using OpenFileMapping with lpName "ADDR". It failed, shows no access to that memory. Then I changed the parameter in OpenFileMapping to a random bad name, I got the same error. That program can work with shared memory which created using CreateFileMapping.     - How to get USB device name Hi, I modified the Microsoft DDK sample USBView to enumerate all devices on the USB. But now I need a device name to make a CreateFile() on each Device. File names in the format "\\.\USB#Vid_04cc&Pid_1122#5&d3bcdf4&1&1# {f18a0e88-c30c-11d0-8815-00a0c906bed8}" can I get only for external USB hubs, but not for other devices. I am writing a driver for a thernet controller which supports 100/10 Mbps Ful duplex operation.. at one place in the documentation for the MiniportqueryInformation I read that WinCE doesn't support full duplex.. At many other places there are statments like "if the miniport driver is full duplex".... Now I am not able to understand clewarly that whether or not I can take th full duplex adavantage of my NIC through a miniport driver writtten for WinCE.     - DeviceIoControl returning ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND Hi I have more than one IOCTL in my driver but one of them is giving error ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND when I call DeviceIoControl. The IOCTL is implemented in the driver, and was working ... But I have changed only the check about the buffer size passed to the driver and have put a critical session protect by a spin lock into the IOCTL processing and only for this IOCTL the error is ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND. the others IOCTL are working fine. any ideas ? Hi,
I'm developing a CDC compliant USB modem driver. It supports multiple interfaces. When I try to install usbser.sys it displays "The driver cannot be installed as function driver not found for this driver instance".In the INF file I had specified the Class as Ports . Can I have a sample INF file for this purpose? Do I need to install modem.sys also(As in a discussion it was specified as "For PNP stack UsbSer.sys is filter driver & modem.sys is function driver"). In that case how do I do?
