    - How to set up a USB driver to read an Interrupt End Point Dear Experts, I have a device with an interrupt endpoint where data can be asynchronously sent by the device. To read this data, I have followed the technic presented by Mr. Walter Oney in his book on WDM driver - setup a End Point in transaction to be always pending on the desired end point. This technic works functionally but reads data one byte by one. This is slowing down my driver. I want to setup this pending IRP to read as many bytes as are present in the EP buffer in one shot. How do I do this? Do I simply set the IRP to read multiple bytes? What will happen if the device has just one byte to be sent? Will this not keep the IRP pending till the device has as many bytes of data as requested? I do not want this to happen either - I want to read "as many bytes as present at the time of issueing this IRP" without waiting if less no. of bytes are present. Thanks for any ideas.     - How to precisely control timing write I/O to lpt with driver? can someone tell me how to precisely control timing to write I/O out to Lpt with kernel mode driver? I had compiled and modified a kernel mode parallel port driver, a user mode dll to export I/O read and write, and a MFC application that issues I/O read and write through the driver to an externel device connected to the parallel port. Everything seem like ok, but when i use QueryPerformanceCounter and QueryPerformanceFrequency api in the MFC application to obtain accurate desired timing delay (in nanosecond accuracy), the application writing out a waveform to the Lpt to the external device, may not appear as accurate as desired. Sometime the delay appear longer, though most of the time it works fine. In some computer it has such delay error appear at every particular interval.     - Interrupt handler with an event flag We are passing an event flag (from "CreateEvent") into a Device Driver with the command "DeviceIOControl" to signal an Interrupt from the hardware back to the software and make sure it is properly synchronized. This works OK until we try to close the Windows Console application when Windows 98 hangs up and needs to be rebooted. Walter Oney's instructions were heeded: closing the handle to the Device Driver and calling "ObDereferenceObject" with "KeReleaseSpinLock" to release the event flag inside the Device Driver. I do not have a access to a protocol analyser and wondering whether this is a known issue with the driver or a problem with the device. I am using a fairchild transceiver with the opencores usb1_funct and usb_phy which ( according to their forum ) works out of the box. I am also going to post on there incase the problem is at that end. Could someone point me in the right direction 1) Has the device responded? If so, is it a corrupt response (i.e. a noise or timing issue). Has it stalled? According the device it has not stalled or had any CRC or overflow errors. 2) Can it be recovered (by some call into the driver, such as a reset) that will allow me to continue, or is it terminal.     - WDM streaming driver and user mode interaction I have a WDM streaming driver(Video) solution and I want that to interact with a user mode component( a Service Exe loaded at logon time in my case). What would be the best way to go about this ? Basically, the service sends some data eveyr now and then to the streaming minidriver. Should I use IOCTL's and send data excluseively ? or shall I use FileMapping or some shared objects ? 1>I know there are no direct IOCTL's going into the streaming minidriver as the class driver handles everything. Hi, I have to access to an USB device declared as mass storage (or maybe CD) in order to send proprietary commands from an application without the need to write a kernel driver. I guess that using CreateFile with a name as \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE<x> or \\.\<x>: will be fine to send a proprietary command to my device via a DeviceIoControl.     - How to find the size of data in SystemBuffer? Hi, I am writing a serial upper filter driver which needs to be able to monitor the read and write data for a serial port. The driver is on a port being used by Windows "Dial Up Networking" to establish an Internet connection via a modem. The buffering method used by RasDial is METHOD_BUFFERED (Mdl is NULL). I can see the write data in my DispatchWrite routine OK and the size of the data in SystemBuffer is correctly reported in OutputBufferLength I use a CompletionRoutine to see the read data coming back up but although the contents of SystemBuffer appear to be correct the size is wrong. It is reporting the same size that was passed down in IRP_MY_READ request and not the actual size of the data received. How can I find the actual size of the data present in SystemBuffer? Thanks O.C.     - GetCommState Function I wrote some functions to open, close, read and write to our custom printers. In the open function, I use GetCommState to get the serial port state.     - DDKBuild ISSUE with WINDDK... Hi Mark/All, My Dev Env is: Windows2000 + VC++ 6.0 + Latest DDKBuild + WINDDK (windows server 2003 ddk) Env variable is set to: W2KBASE C:\WINDDK when I create the project as it's been suggested by MARK at his website www.hollistech.com I get a directory called "objchk_wnet_x86" under my source directory which contains all the .sys, .pdb and others.... (this is right after creating the project and build it for the first time) then I make the change to let say one or multiple of .c files and do the build again.... build goes through with no error.... then I look at my .sys file under the "objchk_wnet_x86" and I'll see that it hasn't been updated... the creation time is still the old one.!!!!!! why? then I delete the log file and all the old file and do the build again and guess what... It doesn't generate any of the outputs??!!! what is happening here is what i have under the project setting Build command line: ddkbuild -debug -W2k checked . Rebuild all options: /a Output file name: passthru.sys Browse info file name: passthru.bsc the system works (regenerates and updates the outputs) if I unistall the WINDDK and install NTDDK (Windows 2000 DDK) with the following setup My Dev Env is: Windows2000 + VC++ 6.0 + Latest DDKBuild + NTDDK (windows 2000 ddk) Env variable is set to: W2KBASE C:\NTDDK Build command line: ddkbuild -debug -W2k checked .     - Zero-loss DVD-R/RW? I am wondering if anyone has seen DVD-R/RW (minus, not plus) writers with zero-loss linking capability. I mean the ability to write a ECC block (16 sectors) say at the logical address 0, stop, and then write another block somewhen later at the address 16.     - i need help getting a SIS graphics driver.... Hey all, I am in need of someones help to get me a SIS graphics driver for my compputer. I don't know what kind it is but as the BIOS starts, just before, it flashes quickly that it's a SIS-sylicone integerated systems graphics pro something. I recently had a crash and had to re-install windows and it doesn't have this driver. I don't have the disk that came with it either. The best windows gives me is a standared plug and play graphics adaptar and standered vga adaptars. none of them lets me go past the 16 colors funtion on the display, I don't remember what silicone it was exactly but it's one of them...anyone have a driver for it you could pass along?? the computer is a second hand one, so i don't have alot of the disks for the diffrent hardware on it. oh, also the graphics thing plugs directly into the mother board, it's not a video card. please anyone with any help or ideas, email me or reply here. thanks in advance Jeremy Tag: How to set INF [DiskSourceName] for 9x os Tag: 53081

My newest enigma is that the argument hPrinter passed to my hooked DrvEnablePDEV doesn't seem to be valid. I am having some doubts with a driver for a PCI card.I learned how to read/write configuration and map memory to kernel space but confused in using how to do dma read & write. 1. The pci card has built in PCI & DMA controller. DMA controller registers (READ and WRITE registers) can be programmed by specifying (PCI_ADDRESS, LOCAL_SDRAM_ADDRESS, SIZE).(These registers are memory mapped via BAR3 and can be programmed by host system or by the Local card.) 2. on the host side I have done DMA alloc (say for 5MB )using HalAllocateCommonBuffer() and also created dummy ISR to perform Receive from the pci card. 3. for Transmitting data to the pci card , I think that I can program the DMA registers that are memory mapped into host side. so that the DMA controller does the Transfer. and generate interrupt ot host upon completion. Is this a correct way? 4. for Receiving from the Pci card, the card generate interrupt to the host after DMA transfer from pci to host memory by programming the DMA registers from the loca side. cld u explain for dma read and write sequence so that it wld be helpful for me in step a head. 5. I created a large DMA bufffer for DMA Xfer. how Read and Write use this buffer. or I have to allocate DMA buffer for Tx and Rx on the host side. 6.     - USB driver on Symbian I need some help on Usb configuration when doing device drivers. What is not clear to me: When we plug in the device (a mobile phone in this case) Does the Host(PC) send the SETUP packet first for the configuration of the device? There are no evident registers for Device Configuration which stores the configuration parameters like Max Power, etc.. An example driver i am looking into just has one configuration and when the Setup packet arrives it checks if bValue is zero. If it zero it sets the interface(s) that that configuration has and also sets the device state as Configured. What my point is all this appears to be at the logical level and there is no concrete way for the Host to know if it is really configured. Can anyone tell me what should happen when the configuration procedure commences.     - DrvCopyBits not called from MS Paint Hello I am writing a virtual printer driver and I have next problem when printing from MSPaint: - if I use a device-managed surface, created with EngCreateDeviceSurface(), for each page there is a call of DrvCopyBits() - everything works fine - if I use an engine-managed surface created with EngCreateBitmap(), there is no call of DrvCopyBits() (actually no call between DrvStartPage() and DrvSendPage()). The other hooks are working (DrvBitBlt, DrvStretchBlt,...) when painting from other applications. I do not have a good reason to use device-managed surface, there is lot more work for them and I would prefer to use the engine-managed surface. The only problem (so far) is that I cannot paint from MSPaint. Can you help me please, why isn't DrvCopyBits called for engine-managed bitmaps?
