In a filemon log I see some entries like this:

189 10:15:46 myapp.exe:1616 WRITE C:\$Directory
SUCCESS Offset: 0 Length: 4096

I assume that $Directory is a meta-file object used by the cache manager and
similar to $ConvertToNonresident, which I also sometimes see.

someone confirm this.

Thanks,

George.

George,

$Directory and $ConvertToNonResident are both NTFS meta-file objects.
There are over a dozen such file objects used by NTFS.
