We are debugging our drivers using a dual-system configuration (one for
development and one for testing) connected using a serial cable. Our
development environment is Windows 2000 Professional, but the target systems
are Windows 2000 Profession/Server/Advanced Server, Windows XP
Home/Professional and Windows 2003. We are always looking for ways to
improve our productivity during the testing phase.
One bottleneck that has been identified is the use of the serial cable. It
has been suggested that a 1394 (firewire) port would enable faster transfers
and debugging, but there are some suggestions that this is not available
with Windows 2000.
Will installing a 1394 card on both the develoment and test system permit
faster debugging? Can it be used with Windows 2000? If not, what prevents it
from being used?
If I cannot use 1394, is there another mechanism that would be faster than
the serial cable?
