Substitute For Microsoft Script Control
I am using the Microsoft Script Control on a VB.Net winforms form, and I use
it to evaluate text based calculations that come from a database. For
example, it evaluates "1+1" or "True And False Or True". It does that with
code that looks like the following:
If myForm.fScriptControl.ScriptControl1.Eval("1+1") = 2 Then Return True
I now need this type of functionality to be used in web services, and I
cannot figure out how to use this script control separate from placing it on
a form. I cannot call a form with web services. Should there be a way to use
this scripting directly?

date time formatting
hi,
my sp takes datetime in 'yyyyMMdd HH:mm:ss' format.
however my c# datetimepicker takes 'dd/MM/yy HH:mm:ss' format.
how do i convert/parse the datetime value from the datetimepicker to the sp
datetime format ? I've tried:

No matter what datetime format I pass in, I will always get a "dd/MM/yyyy

Convert Formatted Double Into String
I have a double stored in a DataTable: dt.Rows(i)(MergeFieldName)
I want to format this and store it into a string.
I have formatting stored in a database, such as "$#,##0.00"
How do I use this formatting, apply it to dt.Rows(i)(MergeFieldName), which
is a double, and then store it in a string?
So if the value of dt.Rows(i)(MergeFieldName) is 14,122.05. I would get
$14,122.05.

Excel does not die using automation
I have a vb.net app that opens an excel worksheet, reads data and then closes
the sheet. Im noticing that the Excel process is still running after I have
closed and disposed of my excel objects.
The following code (Test1) demonstrates the essence of what I am doing.
When I check the processes while ruinning the method, I notice that the Excel
process remains after exiting the sub (and until I exit the application)

I am looking for free on-line web services written in .NET. The reason I
need them is testing Java interoperability. I've successfully "consumed"
some services at http://www.webservicex.net/, and I'd like to test some
more.
The services I'd like test should:
- be free to access
- deal with some common problems, so I can understand what they do in
general. There are a lot of stock quote services, and I am not familiar
with the topic, for example
- use some little more complex data types
- not use dynamic, MS specific, types like dataset's which are unknown
to Java, and for which is WSDL unable to generate stub.

I can't stop the application, "httpd.exe", jamming my computer!
I am using Windows XP (lang.: en-U.K.). I recently found that an application
called "httpd.exe" is running all the time (when the computer is on) and used
up lots of the "CPU usage", from 10%~98%. My computer slows down graduatlly.
When I tried to delete the "httpd.exe" from C:\WINDOWS and the related PF
file from C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch, it "disappeared" again after several seconds.
Also, when I tried to "End process" from the Task Manger. It also
"disappeared" in the "processes" list again. What can I do further in order
to stop or delete that application so that my computer won't slows down again

Got a blank page
I posted a question in Office 2007, around June 26 or so. I got a
notification on Hotmail on June 28 that I had an answer. I clicked the link,
but all I get is a blank page. Is there something wrong with Hotmail ? When I
go to Office 2007 I can't even find my question..I don't know where else to
look, so many different Discussion Groups is confusing.

I found lots of GPSapi code, including the one from the SDK. But how can i
retrieve raw NMEA strings from the gps intermediate driver? I know I need to
use createfile etc. But this is new for me, so could someone please provide

declare a form so that you can reference it's controls
Here's what I'm trying to do in vb.net 2005.
I have a public declared method that sets the value of a control on a
form, but that form could change, so I don't want to code its actual
name. I want it to be a parameter in the module method so that you
pass the form name of whatever form called the method.
So let's say we call the method from form 1:
UpdateText(frmName)
Then in the module we have the actual method
Public Sub UpdateText(ByVal frmName as Form)
frmName.textbox1.text = "Hi, I'm Me."
end Sub
Now, the problem that arises is that frmName gets underlined by visual
studio and says: TextBox1 is not a member of
'System.Window.Forms.Form'. So apparently my parameter in the method
is wrong. But I can't find out what type the form should be. Can
anyone help me?

Folder Icons in Vista
My folder icons (yellow folders) have all changed into white boxes with a
little square inside. I try to restore defaults but they do not change back.

dotnet installers do nothing
Howdy, I have a fresh install of vista ultimate sp1 which I am trying
to install visual studio 2008 to.
When I run the installer it basically stalls at "Setup is loading
installation components", doing nothing (a copy of the
dd_install_vs_procore_90.txt log is available here: http://pastebin.com/mf8b203
. The dd_error_vs_procore_90.txt is empty. ). I was not able to google
much for this but one similar problem with vs2005 suggested installing
dotnet before running visual studio so I tried this.
I ran the dotNetFx35setup.exe and clicked continue when UAC prompts
for permission to continue. The exe loads in the task manager and then
does nothing, using 860k of memory.
I downloaded a copy of dotNetFx35setup.exe with the same results. I
then downloaded the dotnetfx35.exe redistributable and ran it - once
again, same results.
Not two weeks ago I had managed to successfully install visual studio
2008 to the same computer (a lenovo t61p) running vista business
edition and and otherwise similar setup (I believe I was using
nvidia's 169 drivers while I am currently using the 173 but figured
this should not really have an effect).
Considering this is a 36 hour fresh install of vista this is quite
annoying. Googling for various combinations of 'dotnet install hang
vista' has not found anything substantive so I was hoping somebody

How can I get the visual studio 9.0 and text pad work together on my
computer. I have vista 64 bit edition. I've done what needed to be done to

Hi, I started playing with Hands-on labs provided on MSDN, reached lab03
(Hosting the Windows Workflow - Part 2 - Using the default SQL Services) in
which we have code that needs the InstanceId as follows :
GetInstanceTrackingEvents(workflowInstance.InstanceId)
I understood, once we build and run we shoud get 5 messages logged in the
console for the events (Created, started, suspended..........) which is not
the case.
I started to investigate and debug and noticed that InstanceId is "Empty"
and the loop to display the events is not entered .
So how come there is no instanceId which should be created as I understood
from documentation.

Making my application more updatable
hi
i was wondering haw to make my application more updatable online, like i
will divide my applivction to datalayer assembly, business rules assembly,
user interface asembly, so if i want then later to update any assembly what
should i make a scrit application hat conpy that dll to some folder ? or haw
can i make an exe update service pack is it a norman VS Project ?
and is it better to divide the business assembly to more assemblies ?

WZC service wont work
when i start WZC from the task bar, it says "windows can not configure this
wireless connection if you have enabled another program to manage this

Inside my workflow "Workflow1" in CodeActivity "startActivity" I do :
this.TrackData("Key", "value");
I can see in my SQL SqlPersistence DB in the UserEvent table the
tracking value was added.
Now I want to search for workflow instances where that value was set
from ASP.Net app:
SqlTrackingQueryOptions options = new SqlTrackingQueryOptions();
options.WorkflowType = typeof(Workflow1);
options.TrackingDataItems.Add(new
TrackingDataItemValue("startActivity", "Key", "value"));
IList<SqlTrackingWorkflowInstance> workflows =

Then:
workflows.Count is always 0
Seems user events are ignored in query - I can see in PROCEDURE [dbo].
[GetWorkflows]
that at the end only records in [dbo].[vw_TrackingDataItem] are used -
that include only [dbo].[TrackingDataItem] records.
So, Is it possible to search for WF instances based on user events /
tracked data ?
