I updated my Windows XP home from SP2 to SP3. From then on, whenever I put my
laptop into standby or hibernate mode, I get disconnected to the internet and
it can't renew its IP unless you restart the system. This annoys me very
much. In effect, I can't put my pc into standby/hibernation mode to save
power. Please help me with this.

Sorry, I can only report I also have this exact problem. I'm afraid
uninstalling sp3 will cost me days. Hoping for advice...

I was having the same issue with on my Toshiba Portege M200 tablet pc.
(Running SP3 Tablet Edition). When I found out the wireless zero config
service was causing the error, I decided to rollback its version by finding a
copy of the files on an SP2 machine.

On the SP2 machine: Find the files wzcdlg.dll, wzcsapi.dll, wscsvc.dll from
c:\windows\system32\ and copy them to a USB stick.

Boot the SP3 machine in Safe Mode, go to the same folder as above. Find the
three files and rename their extensions. I renamed mine to wzcdlg.dll_sp3,
wscsapi.dll_sp3 and wscsvc.dll_sp3. (*you may need to turn off the "hide
extensions of known file types" setting in Tools...Folder Options... View
Tab*). Once you have renamed the old files, Copy the SP2 files from the USB
stick to the system32 folder.

I also copied svchost.exe, but I don't think this was causing the problem.

Reboot the machine, try putting it in standby/hibernate, and waking it up
again.

Hope this helps.

I am having this problem. Do you know where I can download these
files? Don't have ready access to a sp2 machine.

Styan, how did you "find out" that the wireless zero config service was
causing the error?

P1: is the application that caused the fault.
P2: is the version
not sure what P3 is
P4: is the module being run by svchost.exe
P5: again the version

wzcsvc.dll is the wireless zero config service .dll file.
