    - Gridview dynamic pagesize I would like to assign dynamic pagesize to a gridview called gridCustomer. The customer data is a List with a column called groupId . When a new groupid is encountered I would like to display data in a new page. The code doesn't seem to work.     - Windows Service Deployment I have a Windows Service that I am deploying by setting a Deployment project in my solution. The problem I am having is with the app.config file. This where we store our connection string and folder locations. My development app.config is different from my clients. When I send him an msi file, I have to either add the clients app.config file into my project in 2 locations (as I am running as an exe as well as a Service - which calls the code from the exe project) or send him the app.config and have him replace it. Is there a way to tell the deployment project to include a different app.config file than is currently in the project. Can you set up multiple build type (personalities) to run for testing?     - Cannot find Mutex created in win service from win application Hi All, I have a program that can be started as windows service or as an windows app. I need to avoid starting this program as an application if it is already started as a win service. In code when program starts as a win service I create named mutex. Then if user tries to start program as a win application I am checking if Mutex with the same name exists already and exit program if Mutex found. My problem is that Mutex that was created when program started as win service cannot be found when program starting as a win application.     - How to Right Justify Infragistics UltraStatusPanel? I have Infragistics 2007, Volume 3: I have a UltraStatusBar with two UltraStatusPanels: 1. Left Panel and 2. Right Panel I want the Right Panel to appear on the right and to have its text right justified.     - Local & remote db server - the differences... please help! Hi everyone, Hope you can help me with this one. We are doing a batch process on both a local server and remote. By local I mean the db server is on the same box and by remote I mean the db server is on another computer (but in the same room, so not too far away). The db is: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.3042.00 We have noticed that the remote server takes a lot longer that the local. A lot longer. We are trying to think of the different ways that could account for this. Essentially identify the difference between local and remote connections in ASP.NET 3.0. Yes, I know what your thinking - its the network. No, the network is fine - its massive. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions/comments/ideas/ possibilities code-diagnostics that you may be able to offer. i'm really stuck. Cant't figure out why its taking so long...     - LINQ inheritance problem Hello everyone, I have a c# project with a sql server database. I have a number of lookup tables in my database which I successfully managed to import into my LINQ dataclasses. eg. Table: tlkpColor (PK) tlkpColorID strDescription dtmCreate strCreateUser Table: tlkpCompanyType (PK) tlkpCompanyTypeID strDescription dtmCreate strCreateUser an so on... I would like to create a generic lookup object to inherit from for my lookup objects generated from the tables. I have tried to create a generic object and setting discriminator property to implement inheritance as seen on some tutorials on the net but I'm just not having any luck (and I have spent a long time on this). eg. Table: tlkpGeneric strDescription dtmCreate strCreateUser Table: tlkpColor (PK) tlkpColorID Table: tlkpCompanyType (PK) tlkpCompanyTypeID etc... I've also tried other combinations (eg. overring properties in subclasses) Essentially, I would like to union all my lookup tables into one generic one with a composite primary key (id + type/discriminator value) but using inheritance.     - Best way to interop C# System.String with C++ std::string& I have some C++ unmanaged code that takes std::string& arguments (as reference), and fills them (possibly growing the string). I want to call this code through PInvoke (DllImport), possibly using wrapper layers in unmanaged C++ and C#. I've thought about two approaches: 1) To pass a StringBuilder, this is converted to a char* in C++, the wrapper code converts the char* to a std::string (copy), and in the end, copies the std::string content back to the char*. The problem is that the StringBuilder cannot grow in C++ code (or maybe it can? with callbacks?), it must be initialized in C# with a size that is not known beforehand; this also seems insecure. 2) To pass a "ref String", this is converted to a "char** arg". The wrapper code converts *arg to a string, and in the end, should set *arg to a new value. I don't know if the *arg pointer can really be changed... if I create a new char[] block in the C++ heap and pass it back (setting it to *arg), it results in a heap error (although the string returned is correct). All of these approaches involves copying the data (sometimes more than twice), but, by now, I just want to make it work. Are there better ways to accomplish this?     - Problem with the filtering of a property grid Hello. I created a designer in c#. Everything is working excepted the property grid. I want to show only the properties I added. So I created a class which inherits of a button. And I added properties. But I want to filter the base properties. So to do this, I inherit my class from ICustomTypeDescriptor. In the function getProperties, I filter. And I can show only my properties. But on my host designer, the text of my button and the position disappeared. I mean when I add my custom button without filtering. I see it normal. And if I filter, the text and position are removed. So it appears in the left corner and I can't move it. I have a managed app that builds great on one machine (Vista Home basic, VS2005, JIT enabled for managed/unmanaged code). I can also debug it on this machine with breakpoints and all. Now I move the same code on another machine (XP Pro, VS2005, JIT enabled for both managed/unmanaged code). On this machine, it builds fine too. And it runs like a cake in both debug/release configuration AS LONG AS no breakpoints are added and enabled. As soon as a single breakpoint is added (no matter where in the managed code), it crashes when debugging with this exception: CLR: Invalid x86 breakpoint in IL stream First-chance exception at 0x7c812a5b in TestProgram.exe: 0x02345678: 0x2345678. A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidProgramException' occurred in TestProgram.exe Note that this is generated from mixed code (managed C++ and native C+ +) with some interoperability.     - WMIC issue when upgrading to dotnet 2.0 Hi, I'm developing software for a USB device with an FTDI chip. The device is recognized through WMIC queries. When porting an application from Visual Studio 2003, to 2005 it seems to work perfectly on the machine I'm developing it on, however on some machines, it simply does not recognize the USB device. On these machines the 2003 version works exactly as expected, but not with the 2005 version. It is puzzling because this only happens on some machines, (the machines developing on works completely normally...). I have done windows updates, and installed both .net 1.1 and 2.0 on the target machine with no luck. I'm sure that the device driver is installed too. I've tried nearly everything I can think of to fix the issue, and am looking for some ideas, regardless of how far fetched they are.     - Need help with Gridview Hi, I am trying to display data from a database on to the website in a table format using Gridview. The problem is that each cell contains alot of data and so, when I try to show this in the gridview the cells get stretched too large to show it properly on the page. One idea I had to remedy this is to have the data "cutoff" at a certain number of characters and have the cell so that when it is clicked a Multiline Textbox at the bottom of page show entire content of the "clicked" cell. My question is, how can I take the data and modify it for the gridview before the page loads? I am new to this, but I am looking at the Gridview events and I am wondering if using the "onDatabinding" or "onDatabound" event is what I can use to accomplish this? I have a mixed mode application: C# GUI calling native C++ DLL through managed C++ wrapper. And I want to give the native C++ code access to large (>2G) addresses; but (if itâ??s possible) I do not want the managed code to use this extra GB of virtual memory. Questions are: 1.     - Find localized name of a the LocalSystem account (NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM) This message is posted in the WMI group, but since the last answer in that group is one month old I post it in C# group too. We need to find the localized name of the LocalSystem account. Onenglish windows it is 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM', but on other OSs it is something else. (e.g. In German it is 'NT AUTHORITÄT\SYSTEM ) The SID of the LocalSystem account is S-1-5-18', so we tried using Win32_Group class/table with SID='S-1-5-18' (On an english Windows). The Name property is 'SYSTEM', but 'NT AUTHORITY' is not found in any member of the Win32_Group. How do we get the full name of an account?     - sending SMTP email in C# to groups I don't know if this is the right place to post this or not. If not, could someone direct me elsewhere where I would find more information on how to solve my problem? Thanks! My problem is this: I am writing an application for work. This application sends a basic html email via SMTP to a group. In this group are individual people's emails, but also about 5 other groups. The problem is that the email is only getting received by (or sent to?) the individual people, not the other groups. Situation: toAddress (MAIN GROUP) person@example.com person@example.com person@example.com person@example.com person@example.com GROUP@example.com person@example.com person@example.com GROUP@example.com person@example.com person@example.com The email is getting sent only to the person@example.com, not the people inside the GROUP@example.com adresses.     - PDF with CCITTFax encoded image streams - anyone have any experience? I need to bang out a quick application to extract CCITT compressed TIF images from a ton of PDFs. I've used PDFSharp in the past to work with PDFs but ti doesn't have support for the PDF /CCITTFaxDecode filter. I've googled for the obvious terms to try to find some code samples or information about how to accomplish what I want but haven't found anything at all. If anyone here has experience in working with PDFs and extracting TIFFs could you possible help with the following questions (some are very newbie questions) 1) Does PDF store image data in a special PDF format or wrapped in any other objects? In other words, I thought I would just be able to write the image stream from the PDF to disk and it would result in a TIFF image (hah!) but this isn't the case, I'm wondering if the image data is wrapped in an additional format? 2) Anyone know of any (free) libraries that can decompress the CCITT codec?     - Command Line compiler help Hello, I am trying to compile a Windows Forms project through command line. I have added some images on the buttons. These images are added as a resource and stored in the "Resource" directory inside the project directory. My project is quite small, (only a single form). I tried running csc in the same folder as my source files using command: csc /out:My.exe *.cs It obviously fails since I am not telling the compiler where my Resource files are. Error: EncoderWindow.Designer.cs(224,61): error CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Properties' does not exist in the namespace 'MPEGCompression' (are you missing an assembly reference?)     - Windows Form List & Text controls: Newbie Qs Hi, I have just started building an application which is windows form based, rather than web based, and I am having troubles with layout. I can't find any control which gives me just a simple text list! There is ListView, but that gives me very strange spacing, perhaps because it is trying to put in icons? There are Flow and Table layout panels, but those also give me strange spacing. I just want the Windows Form Equivalent of an HTML <ul></UL> type list. I assume it is here somewhere, but I can't find it. I have a similar problem with just displaying a Block of text which wraps in a reasonable way. I have used a TextBox, set to MultiLine and with background color set to background color, but that seems harder than it should be. Is there any easier way? I can't get a label to accept any sort of newline. I have tried "\n", "<br>" and a few other things. Any thoughts? I feel like I am probably missing something pretty fundamental.     - Wpf Question: No CloseReason? Hi, I'm trying to begin a new application in Wpf, and I'm trying to do some similar things to what I have been in Wpf. For example, in WinForms I have a base BusinessEditForm class. This overrides OnClosing, which checks the CloseReason. If the reason is anything other than ApplicationExit, I prompt the user if they would like to save their changes if the business object being edited is dirty. I just let the window close if ApplicationExit is the reason, however, because I only even call that method if a background thread determines the I have locked out the application and all instances MUST exit immediately. I would like similar functionality in Wpf, but I can't figure out any way to see if the user chose to close the window, or I've started a shutdown. Any ideas?     - UI control to present hierarchical data Hi there. I am trying to find th best way (best UI control) to present hierarchical data, nested tables. For example, I have a Employees table (id, name) and EmployeesSales (id, idEmp, description, value). I want to show this in an hierarchical mode, so I tried DataGrid control. However, as I read somewhere, this DataGrid can only show one table at a time, i.e., when I click "plus" sign, I have only a link to the EmployeesSales table. I have a Sequential Workflow running in my application at a regular
interval.

I have a set of NUnit tests that can validate the outcome of the above
process.

I would like to add one more activity at the end of the workflow that
will run the NUnit tests and email the results in the case of failure.
