CRM Toolbar Missing in Opened Email View
We have CRM 3.0 installed on SBS 2003 and Outlook Client installed on the
client machines. All clients are working fine, except one. On one machine,
the CRM Toolbar is fully functional in the main view in Outlook 2003, but
when you open an email, the "Track in CRM" - "View in Crm" toolbar is
missing. With an email open, I've looked in the View / Toolbars - and the
"Microsoft CRM" option is not even listed.
I've tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook and CRM 3.0
Outlook Client, and the menu bar is still unavailable.
Any suggestions would be appreciated

5000 Character Limit (nText)
Is there a way to get beyond the 5,000 character limit for an nText field in
CRM. I understand this is not an SQL limitation, it seems to be a limitation
at the client and/or platform layer in CRM. I often have customers who want

Delete Relationships Entity
I am trying to figure out how to do remove or delete the relationships entity
from the left side of the Contacts and the Accounts (and all other entities).
Deleting the entire entity seems extreme. Is that the only way to get rid

I tried using the DMF the other day to see if it could help me with =
importing data...
I ran it against a dutch 3.0 SBE. I imported the users, sites, business =
units, etc... And it gave me the right number of records.
I then loaded the Accountbase table with the data that I wanted to =
import.
The next step was matching the data, but it didn't show me any users, =
sites or business units...
Can this be related to the Dutch version, or am I simply missing =
something?

v3.0: Changing Navigation Bar Titles
Is it possible to rename the folders on the Left Navigation Bar? Example:
any new entities I create are automatically placed under a Workplace folder
titled "Extensions". If I want to rename this from Extensions to something
different, how do I go about this?

Crm 3.0 importing from crm 1.2
I had to reload my SBS2003 Prem. server after hhd crash and loaded aswell sql
2005 rather than sql2000.
Got crm 3.0 loaded as a fresh copy on the sql2005 std, Now I need to import
the backup data bases data into the crm 3.0 from crm 1.2 backup. I have
managed to restore the old crm 1.2 database onto the same server under a
diffrent database name and also the metabase.
How can I now import the data from the restored database into the crm 3.0 ,
is there any way to keep all the case and the customization form the crm 1.2 ?

I quote this because it sounds like what happened to us today:
"Upgrade install of CRM 3.0 on Windows 2K3 box. I can login as the system
administrator, but can't login as any other user. I have "enabled the other
users, but I get an error each time I login. The only thing it says is:
ERROR. An Error has occoured. Contact your systems administrator for more
information..... then I have a Try Again or Close button."

environment. Where can I find the instructions for doing that. I cant see it
in the implementation guide and also I can not find redeployment tool for crm
3.0. Is it any different from redeploying 1.2??

CRM v3 / Win Server 2003
We have CRM v3 on Windows Server 2000. We're experiencing some pretty bad
performance and email problems. Emails frequently don't send, windows hang
for minutes upon saving changes, we had a permissions error (resulting in
emails not sending at all from the web client) solved by changing the app
server's SMTP settings, email attachments lose their extension and appear
corrupt to the recipient, and we're continually rebooting IIS on the app
server to temporarily help alleviate the performance issue. We also upgraded
the amount of memory on the app server to 2GB. While that helped, we're still
hanging way too often and it obviously didn't have anything to do with email
issues.
The most recent advice I received is to upgrade our OS to Win Server 2003
b/c of its improvements to IIS. Does anyone have insight as to if this will
affect the CRM installation? Or if it's just a matter of scheduling downtime
for the upgrade? Also, does anybody have insight as to whether or not this
will help?
Also, our Exchange server is also 2000. Should we also upgrade that box?

Inactive case notification
I'd like to implement a workflow rule that would generate an email if a case
has not had any activity in x amount of time.
Looks like I could do it based upon status changes; however, I'm looking for
the time counter to be reset any time a note has been added or an activity
occurs.

CRM 3.0: Unable to access CRM from the same machine
I've installed CRM 3.0 on a server with four IP addresses (one for the
machine and one for each Web server hosted on the machine). The DNS
server maps "crm" A record to the right IP address.
>From clients, I can access the CRM server using http://crm/
>From the server, I can only access CRM web server using the IP address.
If I use the http://crm/ URL I always get the authentication dialog box
and authentication doesn't work.

Settings Button (administrator features) Missing in Web Brower Cli
The Settings option in the web Browser client is missing on one machine but
not on others.
I deleted the cookies and restarted the browser and the Setting Button
appears.
Does anyone have a suggestion for how to correct the problem without
deleting all cookies?

mail merge not an available option under more actions
Using Outlook SFO on Version 3 CRM. Selecting Microsoft CRM > Workplace >
Customers > Accounts in Outlook folder list allows me to have a mail merge
option on the more actions drop down menu, but another user (who used to do
this on ver 1.2) does not have the option.
Any suggstions on how to enable the mail merge option for this user?

One of the Microsoft Desktop Client is giving this error "This record is
read-only in Microsoft CRM. Changes will not be synchronized to the Microsoft

Callout Security issue

I'm starting to make a callout like the example in the sdk
& I just want to write everything to a txt file so I can see what I'm
recieving from CRM but in the eventlog I get the following error:

Publishing Menu in MS CRM 3.0
Hi Professionals,
I have successfully installed MS CRM 3.0. Default site is set on port
http://localhost/5555.
Here I am not able to see the menu, Accounts, Contacts..etc.. I tried
published available customizations, but still I was not successful.
Created new user in AD and added this user in CRM with full rights by
assigning all roles to the newly created user.
Can anyone guide me in publishing menu on the site?

PDF extention lost when mailing quotes
Has anyone experienced that the .pdf is removed from an email
attachment when the quote is sent out of CRM (3.0 SBE Dutch Language)

As the subject, I upgraded from 1.2 to 3.0, and now everytime a mail
passes through I get the following error in the Application Event:

VS 2005 Reports & SRS 2000
I have an implementation of CRM 3.0 which is running on SQL 2000, with SRS
2000 as the report server.
I was wondering if there are any issues with creating reports using Visual
Studio 2005 and publishing them to the CRM implementation?
When I designed a basic report and tried to load it nto CRM it came back
with the cryptic "An error has occured please contact your
administrator"....:) (I love the concise nature of that one)
If I design reports using VS 2003 I do not experience this problem.

We want to do a new installation of CRM3.0 on a new server. How to migrate
data from 1.2 to 3.0 ?
(1)Somebody suggested to use data migration tools. I don't like it because I
have experienced before (when I migrate Goldmine to CRM 1.2). It is very
headache and time-consuming.
(2)Somebody suggested to do a new installation for CRM1.2 and upgrade to
CRM3.0. Does it mean I can copy the database of 1.2 to a new server and

I want to migrate ACT in to CRM 3.0. My company is trying CRM 3.0
implementation but we dont want to put in any initial costs of buying SCRIBE
data migration tools. So we are trying out DMF to do this migration.
My questions are:
1. Can i migrate ACT Accounts as CRM Marketing Leads?
2. If yes to previous Q, Then existing DMF ACT To CRM spreadsheet does not

Outlook Client not able to connect..
Dear All,
I have installed my MS CRM v 3.0 on Windows 2003 SBS. I am encountering the
following two problems.
1. When I click on Reprots, it is prompting for Error msg "An Error has
occured and contact your System Administrator."
2. When I install outlook client on my client OS (win 2000), I am not able
to connect to CRM Server.
Error Msg: "There is a problem in communicating CRM Server, please try again
later, if the problem persist again contact your system administrator."
How can I rectify this problem? Please advice.

CRM 3.0 Desktop Client Install and SBS Monitoring Error
I am working on the client installs for CRM SB on SBS 2003.
Despite helpful assistance from this NG I have reached the point of calling
Microsoft on one of my notebook installs. Before calling them, I thought I
should attempt to get as many client installs completed as possible then
look to get all my unresolved issues answered simulataneously.
To date, I have 2 notebook installs complete and working and the 1 notebook
install that is awaiting my MS call.
In SBS, all but the users have been setup using the Power User template
except my own, which used the Administrator template. To reduce confusion I
will refer to the users below as follows:
AdminUser - Me
NBUser - Other working notebook user.
DTUser - New desktop user.
So I started installing desktop clients.....The first one appears to have
installed correctly however when I log onto the domain with the user's
credentials and Outlook is opened I get the "there is a problem communcating
with the Microsoft CRM server" error.
My corrective actions thus far have been:
crmserver.domain.local added to Intranet zone in I
All pop-up blockers have been disabled.
XP firewall is disabled by default group policy.
If I attempt to use the Web Client under the same DTUser account I am
re-prompted for crendentials and not allowed access.
Using my AdminUser domain login, and the DTUser's credentials for the CRM
web client login, I have no problem getting in.
If I modify DTUser's Intranet Zone security in IE to "Automatic logon with
current username and password" both the web client and the Outlook client
work with using my login.
To add confusion to the chaos, NBUser's account (working) was created at the
same time as the non-working desktop user, using the same Power Users
template as mentioned above. Even stranger NBUser, while working fine on his
notebook, experiences the same difficulties as DTUser, when attempting to
login on using his desptop machine.
Also, if I close the errors in Outlook an then select the CRM sections it
appear to work fine......
I enabled monitoring in SBS and have been receiving the following error
every 10-15 minutes ever since.
http://CRM:5555/MSCRMServices request failed: Critical condition.
HTTP Status: 400 Bad Request
Response Time (msec): 0.
(WMI Status: 0 )
Should I try moving CRM to a different ip in IIS. One that does not need the
5555 port? Is changing the entry in IIS and repointing the clients registry
entries all that is required for this or does it require a re-install of the
Server Application?
Any other suggestions for moving forward?

How do I get an email out of in-progress?
I just started learning to use queues. I've got email arriving in
queues, and I can assign, and then have that user accept. Then it's in
that user's in-progress.
That's where I'm stuck. How do I get the email out of in-progress? What
do I do when the email is processed? How do you tell MS-CRM that the
email is processed and no longer has to remain there cluttering up the

GrantAccessToExchangeMailRootAction
Hi All,
I am attempting to upgrade from CRM 1.2 to CRM 3, and I keep running
into a roadblock. The setup goes very well until it reaches the action
Microsoft.Crm.Setup.Server.GrantAccessToExchangeMailRootAction. It
then proceeds to stop making progress. The server is not frozen or
anything, it just never gets past that point in the install. I end up
having to kill the task in task manager. I have no clue what could
possibly be causing this...can anybody help?!?!?

Duplicate SQL SPN
I ran the crm advisory upgrade (to upgrade from 1.2 to 3.0) and I
received an error regarding the uplicate sql server spn. I used ldp.exe
to find the duplicate records and I used ADSI.exe to delete the
duplicate record, and after that I restarted the SQL server and the ran
the advisory tool again but the error was stiull there, furthermore the
none of the users were able to log back into CRM.
I was able to retrieve a backup of the server so CRM 1.2 is running

Missing Inboxes
In CRM 1.2 there were 4 mailbox folders in My Workplace. In my 3.0 test
installation I only see two (Assigned and In Progress). Why are the 2 others

Limit entity access by Business Unit
Hello All,
Ok, this should be a simple one, but when attempting to set this up, it did
not work.
The structure I want to set up is the following:
Root Business Unit
Root Business Unit entities (contacts, cases...)
1st Sub Business Unit
1st Sub Business Unit entities
2nd Sub Business Unit
2nd Sub Business Unit entities
Pretty simple, right? The permissions would be as follows:
Users who belong to the root BU can see all entities throughout the system.
Users who belong to a Sub BU would only have access to entities belonging to
that Sub BU.
I was under the impression that this was the built-in behaviour, but when I
set this up, and logged on as a Sub BU user, I was able to view all entities.
I should probably mention that all of the entities existed prior to setting
up the Sub BUs. The platform is CRM 3.0 upgrade from 1.2.

Is there a way to automatically default all user timezone codes to Eastern so
that all users are not required to go to their Options settings the first
time they login to change their timezone default?
Right now, all user timezone codes are defaulting to Pacific.

Exporting Marketing lists to Excel for mailing
We have CRM 3.0, and I am trying to export a Marketing list to Excel with
names, addresses etc to be forwarded to a mailing house, for a catalog
mailing.
I have 745 added members to the list from leads using criteria and manual
picking (out of 4500 leads). When I goto export to excel, first try was using
static, but it only exports the 3 default columns, not address. I can't find
the view for marketing lists to modify to add more columns.
When I try to export using Dynamic worksheet and pick address columns, the
resulting list in excel is ALL 4500 leads, not just the 745. This seems to me
to be a bug.
Am I missing a step? Is there another way to do this? Any help would be much
appreciated.

Full-text Index error
Attempting to upgrade to 3.0 and the CRM database check issues a warning
that:The full-text indexes on the Microsoft CRM database are not consistent
with Microsoft CRM 1.2 full-text indexes.
I don't see a full-text catalog listed for any of the crm databases
Any ideas?

Importing MYSQL databases into CRM 3.0
Hi,
Our website portal - an ecommerce store that offers consumer electronics
are built on a MYSQL database.
We will like to import our Website customer database into CRM 3.0 on a daily
basis.
Benefit,
1) When customers email us, we can check the history of its purchases
(mapped to email address), time of purchases, date of shipment with a click
of a button.
Is this possible with Microsoft CRM 3.0; if so, is it a easy task that can
be dealt with on a daily basis or can be scheduled and automated?

the Microsoft CRM 3.0 CDs and we want to upgrade from 1.2 to 3.0. I
nhave no idea about how the licensing thing work. Could someone please

create a relationship to either a contact or a company
Hi
I notice that a case has a very nice feature. It has a single field
customerid and two relationships mapping customerid to either a contact
or a company, thus allowing the user to specify either a contact or a
company when filling in the customer field.
I've tried this with a custom entity and (not surprisingly) it fails
when I try to create the second mapping with the error that the schema
name is already in use.
Can anybody suggest a clean way around this?

Formatting Section Layout Column Format -- options disabled
Hi, my question is related to formatting the Main Form for an entity. I
want certain sections to have the three column format. However, when I
click on Section Properties, it shows all options for choosing the
Column Formats as disabled. The 2-column format, with the Variable
Field Width, is the default and the only option I seem to be able to
use right now. Why is the Formatting --both layout and column format

own CRM Professional, but CRM SBS installs on my SBS
Hi,
I own the CRM Professional, as I also run Great Plains & intend on using the
Integration when & if it releases. My issue is that when installing CRM on
my Small Business Server, it installs CRM Small Business Edition. Will this
be a problem when the Integration comes out? If so, is there a special way
to install CRM Professional?
I thought I'd post this instead of calling Microsoft, b/c I'm sure other
customers will be having this problem & thought they'd like to know as well.

CRM Integrated Predictive Dialer?
Anyone know of a good predictive dialer system that integrates with

Follow up activites
In ACCOUNT, LEAD and CONTACT records there is an option in the toolbar to
create a follow up activity. If I fill in the new activity in the form
assistant and press SAVE, the new activity gets saved with no information in
the fields. If I press SAVE AND OPEN, a new form comes up with all of the
fields blank, forcing me to fill in everything including my name and the
contact or lead name from scratch. This makes no sense to me. Why doesn't
CRM at least fill in the information it knows in the context of the new
follow up activity? Am I doing something wrong here?
