    - Unable to obtain DNS hostname of Active Directory domain controlle Hi , I am trying to use deployment Manager to upgrade trial license but whenever i am running Deployment Manager i get error Unable to obtain DNS hostname of Active Directory domain controller, I am using Full Domain Admin right for CRM Admin user, i done repair install without any issue but still having the same error, CRM server and SQL databases are install on the same server.     - CRMWorkFlowService.exe (CRM 3.0) Hi all, I've noticed that CRMWorkFlowService.exe never closes it's DB connections, so after a few weeks, I can have up to 1909 db connections to the SQL server (easily seen both on the DB server and with TCPView from Syinternals). If I restart IIS and all the CRM services (including CRMWorkFlowService.exe), then the CRMWorkFlowService.Exe no longer connects to the DB, which results in forms such as ACCOUNT to take several minutes to load... A reboot of both the IIS and the SQL server seems to be the only solution, but that is not really a good solution (and from my IT manager's point of view, unacceptable).     - Mail Merge Quote displays nothing but 1 line item Hi there, I was wondering if anyone might have an idea as to why would all contents in if statements ,e.g. {IF{MERGESEQ} ="1" "}, on a mail merge does not show and anything thats not within the if statements is displayed when the mail merge is run? I eventually removed any if statement on the word mail merge and the quote format looked fine except that if the quote has multiple line items then multiple pages are diplayed. Somehow, this is no longer working in CRM 4.0; the workflow fires succesfully with nor errors, but the (short) message is never received.     - CRM 3.0 doesn't send mail to customers Hi All I've Installed CRM 3.0 on a domain, and a second Exchange Server 2003 to handle the users' mailboxes. The Exchange Router was installed, and the rules were deployed. I use the Web Client, and created a new customer (the DB is empty), and assigned an email address. But when I send a mail to that customer, the customer doesn't receipt the mail, but the customer's history shows as completed those mails. The second Exchange Server relays all mails to the first Exchange on the organisation. Any idea to put to work the mail?     - Sending case acknowledgement to Responsible Contact I am setting up a workflow to automatically send a confirmation email when a case is created. I am able to send an email to the Responsible Contact recorded on the cases, but need to edit the email template so that it is addressed to the first name of the Responsible Contact.     - Email retention policy relative to CRM e-mails tracked from Outloo Toss up question for the blue team. When one hits "Track in CRM" on an e-mail from outlook we all know that it CREATES an e-mail in the CRM system. The date that the e-mail is created in CRM is placed in the field CreatonDate. When we look at the related record it shows up in order based on the Created Date. The rub is this. What do we do when we have a user who is just coming on board with CRM and they have e-mail history they want to link that goes back years. There does not seem to be any linking relative to the received date. Which is actually much more relevant than create on date, especially if we are trying to recreate a communication trail that goes back several years. According to the CRM data it would seem as if all the e-mail came over today, and not when we actually received them. I have done several migrations from GoldMine to CRM and I have used the Actualend in the ActivityPointer. But Outlook does not map there. So has anyone ever tackeled this issue or have any suggestions. Some of our clients have data retention policies where they can not keep electronic for longer than 3 years.     - CRM 4 Outlook Client Fails to Connect I'm trying to connect some of my laptop users using the Outlook client for CRM, but I have been unsuccessful. These users are not on Active Directory and only use local accounts. The problem is that when I try to setup the client, I get a message that says: "The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized." It never prompts me for a username and password, so this doesn't entirely surprise me. I can launch CRM in IE, at which point it prompts me for a password and let's me in, but I really want this integrated with Outlook. Any ideas?     - Accessing GP Data from CRM Remotely Hello, My company is using GP10 and CRM 4.0, and we had created a number of SQL reports for sales people, that access the GP10 database. A previous Dynamics vendor integrated these into CRM for us via the following: Buttons were created in the isv.config file under the Accounts pane, so that if you open an account, click one of the custom report buttons, it runs an asp script that queries to find the GPID for that account and passes that as a parameter to a link to the SRS server, to pull up the relevant GP report. This works great in house, even though I'd love to find a superior method to accomplish this that would be more supported by MS, as I've heard this is an "unsupported customization". Obviously, if a sales person out of the country or out of the office connects up to the web interface of CRM, which is set up using port forwarding and actually works pretty well in CRM 4.0, if they click on those buttons it will link to internal addresses to the reports on the in house report server. Needless to say, they can't access the reports or data this way. Our controller went to Convergence and is convinced that Sharepoint is the answer to this and any number of other issues; we have a basic WSS 2.0 install that came on our Small Business Server 2003 box. Particularly on this point...I'm quite confused on how exactly Sharepoint can do this. As I said we're on WSS 2.0 and Office 2003, and can't immediately upgrade. Can someone clarify, if they understand, what exactly Sharepoint could do to integrate data from GP into CRM, particularly with CRM accessed via the remote web interface? Our fix for this currently is Terminal Server, which has worked fine for some time, but our office in Germany is struggling with frequent dropped connections.     - Microsoft CRM 3.0 ignoring british summer time Hello, We've got a installation of CRM 3.0 with rollup update 2 installed. Win 2k3 EE SP1 as guest on ESX 2.5 host. The guest servers are on BST (GMT+1), however any dates get saved on GMT on the database. This throws reporting off which is a serious concern around here. I need a workflow rule that will automatically trigger 'Yes" from a new attribute I created (boolean / yes or No) depending on whether a user chooses a specific word from that dropdown list - 'ABC'. I have created the boolean attribute and added a column in the main Active Accounts view. I put js behind the OnSave for the form properties that indicates if they choose 'ABC' show Yes. I created a manual workflow rule that depending on if the specific field is chosen, should make my new attribute field read "Yes". Once I run the apply rule in the Accounts view, it initially worked in the view, but once the user goes back in and chooses another item in the list, the system still reads "yes". NOTE: I believe one of the problems is that the field's dropdown list is dependent upon another key field's choice from the user...e.g., Field1 - if user chooses "Group", then Field2 shows up with the drop down list. In other words, I believe that when the user initially chooses 'ABC' from Field2 (after having chosen Group in Field1), the system sees 'ABC' for that field; when the user goes back into the account and chooses Field3, then an item from Field4, the system still sees Field2 having 'ABC' associated with it.     - Mailmerge offer shows no currency When I merge an offer with multiple products, then the merge fields 'money' don't show the currency.     - Track email whitout a valid contact person in CRM When I track an email to CRM and there is no contact person in CRM. Then the email is still tracked but the user is not aware of, that the system could'nt find a contact person. The email is tracked to the CRM but with a read alert on the email, saying that it could'nt find the senders email. This information would be nice to see in outlook, so the user is aware about to create the contact in the CRM. Is it possible to get an alert when there is no contact person ?     - Login to CRM 4.0 website fails from client computers Hi all, I did an installation at a customer site yesterday. I installed the CRM server on a SBS2003 server. On the server I can logon to the CRM website http://servername:5555 If I try to logon from a client computer in the local network I get the login screen. I enter the same user/password (administrator) but I cannot login. The customer has the following configuration: SBS2003 with exchange 6.5 and sqlserver standard 2005 ISA 2006 is installed on another server in the network. Could this be the problem? It is not a connection over the internet. All clients are on the local network. I found some documents on ISA server but they were all about Outlook clients or Internet facing deployments.     - CRM 3.0: Cannot delete account, opportunity Hi, I have been working with MS CRM 3.0 in the last few months and have created number of test accounts and test opportunities , now I'd like to remove all those test opportuniites/accounts from my system but not succesful. Don't know why. When I tried to delete them, some of my opportunities (and Accounts) could not be deleted, it said "The record cannot be deleted because it is read-only". I'd trying to delete all its quotes, orders, relationships but still could not do so. My role is System Administrator and I assumed this role gives me full control of the system but it did not work this time. Can you please assist us to look into this issue and advise.     - Import CSV file with <CR><LF> Hello, Using CRM 4.0, I'm trying to import Tasks from a CSV file (built using Save As from Excel). One of the fields is a description which I want to map to the task description. The problem is that some of the desciptions contain embedded <CR><LF> characters and the import does not seem to be parsing the file correctly.     - Email Tracking from Shared Outlook Inbox We have our system setup so that some users have Full Access rights to other users inboxes. The problem comes when a user attempts to track an email from a mailbox other than their own. From an open message the user does not have the Track in CRM button, but if they attempt to track using the buttton available from the inbox, they get an error message stating that they cannot track from the Outlook store to the CRM store.     - Import to Campaign Responses I have an Excel file of 250 records (47K size file) that I have saved both as a txt and a csv file to import into my Campaign Responses (CRM 3.0). Each time I have tried, it's failed with the error message for each record of "data in the row did not match the import type". The last time I received this error, I removed all punctuation and it worked. It didn't work this time and I can't figure out what is causing this. Any ideas? Thanks!     - Workflow or other method of collecting cost into a record I have a record called Group booking that is associated with Oppertunities. I want this Group booking form to have a method of collecting all the related Oppertunities cost field entires and storing them in the Group booking record. The idea is oppertunities are created agaisnt this Group Booking and then at soem point the total of those oppertunities costs needs to be collected and stored in the Group Booking in a field. Is it possible to do this in a workflow? An example would be great. I could do a report (except I dont have any report generating software!) but even then that won't transfer the result into the Group booking record.     - CRM 3 Server Operating System Upgrade I am currently running CRM 3 Rollup 2 on Windows 2000 Adv Server along with SQL Server 2000 Ent Edition. Are there any special things I should look out for when planning this upgrade? Obviously good backups of the DB and OS are key, but anything else that could break within the CRM application itself?     - Cannot assign case from Queue We recently upgraded from CRM 3 to CRM 4. We use c360's e-mail to case. I am unable to assign a case from the queue to another users. The cases show as created and owned by the CRM administrator but even while logged in as that user I cannot re-assign them. I get an "unexpected error" please contact your system administrator. Has anyone seen this? If I manually create cases I am able to re-assign them at will. It's only from the queue that I have problems. My account is setup in the System Administrator Role. If using SBS03, then need to ensure to upgrade it to R2 since v4.0 require
SQL Server 2003.

From there, the upgrade is pretty straight forward, refer to the
implmentation guide for the upgrade process:
