Our people in telesales used to work with Siebel, and they keep asking about
the concept of
"campaigns". In all of the documentation, I found 2 documents that mentioned
the word campaign exactly once.

Could someone give me at least some kind of idea of how campaigns could be
done in MSCRM?

For example, we as a distributor decide to go on a campaign of selling HP
laser printers. We have MSCRM with our partners inside, and custom field "HP
Customer". The value of this filed can be true, or false. How do we:

1. define a campaign - a group of accounts with HP Customer field whose
value is True
2. divide the campaign with target customers so that each of 4 telesales
persons gets it's own customers to contact, without overlaping...
3. analize the results of that particular campaign?

thanks,
Ivan

Hi Ivan,

MSCRM does not have campaign functionality, as you may know, and you
cannot add new tables, like a campaign table, to group accounts, so I
don't think you could do it through the app. Maybe create a campaign
table and build a ASP.NET to do it, using the MSCRM SDK. It's a lot
of work, and maybe worth waiting til Microsoft writes it. You also may
want to check the ISV solutions ( other products that link to MSCRM )
for a solution out there. www.microsoft.com/crm and drill from there.

Ivan,

v1.0 of MSCRM does not have any campaign management feature along these
lines. They have indicated that there will be support for this in a future
release, but not confirmation of when. In the mean time, there are ISV
products that will support this capability.

Hi Matt,

"future release" - in your oppinion, what is the probability of it being
released
with CRM 1.2?

thanx,
Ivan

I would say probability is zero.

the 1.2 release gives us more langauge support for other countries, 2003
product support for server 2003 etc and of course bug fixes

crm and telesales campaigns by Dave

Ivan,

From the 'roadmap' webcast last week or so, Marketing
Campaigns will be in version 2.0, which is slated for the
end of 2004.

But for now, the best you could do is something like this:

1) Create a manual Account workflow rule that creates a
task (or phone call) activity. When you are filling out
the activity properties in the workflow manager, you can
select a specific user to assign the task to, and you can
enter in a subject and a description (I'd suggest both be
given some descriptive name like 'HP Campaign Halloween
2003' or something.) (For your purposes, you probably
want to create four manual rules, identical except for
the owner.)

-- Note: to be able to report on this stuff, you either
have to make sure that users don't modify the subject or
description (or at least don't remove the values you've
entered), or you could create a note that basically
says 'this account is now part of this campaign.' as one
of the actions in your workflow.

2) Do an Advanced Find to find all Accounts with
that 'HP' value checked.

3) (You probably should run a query in SQL to figure out
how many total records will meet the criteria of that
Advanced Find query). Figure out how many each user
should get, then select (#/4) accounts in the result grid
from the advanced find (you can select all by checking
the box below the Actions menu).

4) Select 'Actions / Apply Rule', and apply the first
rule that creates activities for the first telesales
rep. (Each grid can only return 100 entries, so if you
have many hundreds of accounts that apply, you'll have to
keep hitting the next page button on the Advanced Find
grid until they have all they should.) Then, repeat for
all 4 reps.

5) You probabluy need to modify the close task values
form the default, but you could have two codes, 'Won'
and 'Lost'. Train the reps to select the appropriate
code when closing each task, after the account was
contacted, and you know if you got a sale or not.

6) For reporting, ideally the reps would not have
modified the subject (or description), so you can simply
report on all activities with that subject, and group
by 'won' and 'lost' values and sales rep to see how well
the campaign went.

HTH,

Dave
