Changing a URL in CRM and removing the explorer bar in IE7
I have been trying to change the URL of a CRM installation but have managed
to redirect the entire domain. I followed the instructions in KB 920211
(except that my port was 5555) with the resulting mess. I did make a back up
of the registry so i am not worried about that but wonder if there is an
easier way to point to it.
My other question is concerning the explorer bar in IE7, is there some way
for it not to appear. I followed the instructions on the MSCRM team blog but
still have the explorer bar and the rest of IE7 controls displayed.

I have a strange problem - MSCRM 3.0 works fine on XP, but on Vista
sometimes shows (in 50%) first 250 items and than IE7 freeze for 3-4 minutes.
I can't do anything on that view and after that it works again. Other

flawless. Again, it is a brand new PC with all patches (I hope) and problem

Partial Invoices

I think the simple, but not elegant solution, is to create the order with a

Q1 - How do I enable the ability to amend prices?

track competitors against leads
Customers are asking for an ability to track competitors against leads, not
just opportunities. The question about competitors is often asked early in
the sales cycle (before an opportunity is created). The lead competitors
need to be automaticlaly linked to the opportunity ("mapping" need to be in
place for these links) when the lead is converted into an opportunity so that
the competitors selected on the Lead could be managed on the opportunity
without having to reselect them again.

CRM 3.0 install problem, .NET FrameWork 1.1
Here's a strange problem. After installing CRM 3.0 and I tried to follow the
instruction on page 138 of the CRM implementation guide by "Click the ASP.NET
tab, select version 1.1.4322, and then click OK." (within IIS management).
There is 1 problem. The option for .NET version 1.1.4322 is not there, only
version 2.0. Here's how the entire installation went:
1) Installed Windows 2003 EE R2 (which included SP1)
2) Installed IIS, Index Servicing and Message Queuing
3) Updated to latest service packs and patches (SP2)
4) Installed SQL 2005 EE w/ Reporting Services
5) Installed CRM 3.0.
Everything went smooth, but now I don't see the option to select the .NET
FrameWork v1.1 in the IIS website admin. I also do not see .NET FRAMEWORK
1.1 in the "Control Panel - Add/Remove software". Strangely, in the server
"Administrative Tools section", the .NET FRAMEWORK 1.1 Configuration and
Wizard are there.
Everytime I try to install .NET FRAMEWORK 1.1 from the dotnetfx.exe file on
the CRM CD, the system come back and tell me "The files you are trying to
install is already installed by the systems, etc..."
Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Auto Fill territory based on picklist
Hello,
I was asked to create a new text field (called sales rep) for the migration
of data from GP 9 to CRM 3 (sales rep field in GP is based on the initials of
the salespeople).
I was recently asked to change this field to a picklist in CRM. They would
also like the territory field to autopopulate when a sales rep is selected
from this picklist.
Here is my dilema:
1. In CRM, I created the territories based on the name of the sales rep, not
his/her initials. I don't even think using initials is a good idea, but they
are using them in GP.
2. If I create a picklist, how do I get the data from the original sales rep
field into the new sales rep picklist? Workflow?
They want to use 2 way integration for accounts (GP and CRM) so I want the
sales rep fields to match.
I am afraid that I am missing something here or that I am making this more
difficult than it needs to be. Has anyone had a similar request? I could
really use some guidance!
Thanks in advance.

Edit product cost/price on the fly
Despite the blurb, CRM seems to be very product-focussed. As a
service-based company we'd like to use CRM to pre-define a "product" (e.g. a
training day, or an event) so that users can pick from a standard list.
However, the nature of the business means that each discrete supply of a
"product" is going to incur different costs, and attract a different sales
price, as it is tailored to client needs.
Is there a way of being able to divorce the "product" from the fixed Price
List, or at least to edit the cost/price information associated with each
individual instance of the "product", without resorting to the completely
free-text entry option when adding an item to a quote?
So far it seems that if you use a pre-defined Product then it's tied to its
Price List, and you simply can't edit the values, which is a complete pain
for businesses that essentially price each job as a custom activity.
Cheers,
Pete Tag: How to revoke rights/sharing using Scribe Tag: 80475
Calculated Fields
We're helping someone with a relatively basic requirement for CRM, but
they've thrown two awkward ones into the mix. The first of which is a
desire to use some custom fields on an entity which are then automatically
totalled.
e.g. when they do a quote each item on the quote (free entry) has a custom
field for the cost to the organisation of providing the service. On the
main quote screen/report they need these to be totalled, in the same way
that the built-in sell-price fields are.
Is this possible without reaching for Visual Studio? I've had a look
through a pile of books and every dialog I can find without turning anything
up ...
Cheers,

Linking CRM/SQL Server to External Database
I am looking for information of someone to talk to about how to "link" data
from an external non-SQL Server d/b to the CRM SQL Server d/b. In our case
we need to link our Oracle ERP database to SQL server (CRM database) as it
contains about half of the info we need in our CRM.
We can obviously create an interface between the two db's and "load" the
data periodically but what I would rather do is use ODBC to map / connect the
data in the Oracle db to the schema in CRM/SQL server so we don't have
duplicate data (I would really prefer to have the Oracle be our one and only
ERP solution and load ERP data into SQL server that then must be maintained
in two locations).
ODBC may not be the appropriate way to do this although I haven't come
across anyway to go directly to Oracle so I am open to suggestions. And -
maybe what I am trying to do isn't possible and loading may be the only
option (I hope not).
