I'm currently using 1.2 in my test environment, but there
are so many security issues....I was wondering if these
security issues will be resolved in 2.0 and if there is a
release date for 2.0????

Thanks,
Jen

Hello Jen

Version 2.0 will not appear until next year. I am expecting security to have
a lot more features but of course until the product is announced officially
its anyones guess which features will make it into the final build. Tell us
more about your issues around security so we can offer some assistance.

I think version 2.0 is scheduled to be released end of
first quarter 2005. I dont know about the security
issues but its supposed to be more flexible when trying
to change the side tab names, creating new record types,
and modifying the existing ones. For instance, if you
didnt wanna use "Account" as the name for that category,
you could rename it as Company. I'm just wondering what
security issues you are referring to.

2.0 release by jen

I've been on here a lot and actually John has responded to
most of my question/issues...But here it goes (sorry for
repeating yet again and for making this so long).

My sales people aren't allowed to see each other's
accounts (company policy). So, I set up my users and add
my customer service people (who are aloud to see
everything) to a group then gave that group access to the
all views for leads, accounts and contacts. I'm wanting
it so that my sales people can only see anything that has
their name on it whether it is through ownership or
sharing rights. When I try to share an account between
two sales people...it will only show up on the user who is
listed as the owner. I know the my view only shows
the "stuff" that the person is listed as the owner...which
means they can't see anything that is being shared with
them.
I'd like to be able to limit the reports that my customer
service reps can see since they have access to the entire
database. Not that this will happen, but you never know -
there is always a bad apple in the group - if my sales
people go to their cust serv rep and ask them to run a
report showing all the leads in the month of June or how
much did a certain person make on a particular order...it
wouldn't be good.
It would be nice to be able to turn off the export to
excel feature along with printing features for certain
views....agian this makes it way too easy for people to do
things they shouldn't be doing.
I've noticed that when you want to assign an activity to a
particular person...it assigns all for that
account/contact rather than allowing you to pick and
choose the activities you want to assign.
I guess these are my main issues for now.

thanks for whatever help you can provide me with,
Jen

Correction...MSCRM 2.0 isnt scheduled to be released
until End of 2nd Quarter next year. Who can guess what
they put in there. Promises...promises :( Hopefully
they will revamp it so that security issues are easier to
troubleshoot and work around.

You should be able to solve this problem using Business
Units, possibly a separate Business Unit for each Sales
Rep. Then set up the Security Role that you use for
these people to only be able to do anything to those
records that they own, or are in their Business Unit.
This will then follow through to reports etc etc.

Sorry - clicked on Submit too soon on previous post.

The next bit is to put all your Customer support people
into different Business Units, and make those BUs parent
to the Sales people BU, and give the Support people's
Security Role access to objects owned by them, their Bu
and child BUs of their BU (Parent/Child access rights).
